GTAV vs GTA San Andreas | Direct Comparison

- A graphic and gameplay comparison of the two most popular entries in the GTA series, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
I am currently working on a full documentary on the Grand Theft Auto series and found some fascinating similarities between San Andreas & GTAV that I wanted to share. It's interesting just how many features have eventually found their way into GTAV by means of GTAOnline's nonstop updates.
While this video does focus on visuals quite a bit (as does every video in this "Direct Comparison" series) I also wanted to spend time comparing all of the features and gameplay mechanics, to demonstrate how the series has evolved over the years.
Stay tuned for the full documentary in the coming weeks!

Crazy how ~20 years later, San Andreas is still talked about so often. *Legend* 👑

Sure, but Rockstar also just released a massive game 3 years ago.

Crazy what SA had done for its tine
Yeah I hope Everywhere would be Revolutionary, It is made by the guy who made San Andreas
Mafia were way ahead in thier time
@L not really. Half Life 2 came out the same year - and graphics still hold up today. But what matters about SA is how HUGE it was for it's time - map with 3 cities, and countless activities to do.
@L there is no Half Life 2 for mobile. By still holds up - i meant Half Life 2. That game still looks pretty good today and it's almost 17
@L graphics were the only thing gta sa didnt have as advanced back then. Because there was max payne 2 in 2003 and hl2 in 2004. But for an open world it sure was great graphically
Still impressed at the amount of side content San Andreas had compared to GTA V
GTA V has more missions and more side missions so I'm not really sure what point you trying to make?

San Andreas STILL feels like a massive game. It's quite amazing really...a real credit to Rockstar.
It's great except for the gameplay and the game not being cinematic enough for me
@@ashrafhaider598 well its old. Which is why the game feeling massive compared to today's standards is a good achievement by rockstar. While it being not cinematic is normal as old games were that way
Yup in gta 5 the map feels small cause there's only los Santos and then nothing else in the back of the map it feels so empty but with san andreas we have 3 cities to explore and the forest and desert too that's why it feels so big it's more diverse and I like that
@@rogueraccoon1840 GTA 5 should've included San Fierro and Las Venturas too, at least one of them, instead of just 90% being nothing but mountains, deserts and some few small towns.

I still prefer San Amdreas a bit more because of 2 key areas: the open world and it's activities, the soundtrack. I'm not saying that GTA V lacks in open world activities, it actually has pretty much the same ammount as San Andreas, but it's just that the open world activities of San andreas were more fun. The soundtrack is mainly subjective, I think GTA V's soundtrack actually fits the game's time period, setting and theme and I wouldn't change it, but I just prefer San Andreas' music.
But I ain' gonna lie, for me GTA V was still a mindblowing game, it didn't disappoint me and I think it improved upon almost everything from San Andreas except for those 2 key areas. All GTA games were mindblowing for me, mainly because of how technically advanced each of them were at their times, how much attention to detail is put into them, how all of them feel ahead of their time. I don't think anyone can do better open worlds than Rockstar.

been waitin a long time for this
Tbh for the 3D era I felt San Andreas was pretty realistic, or at least pretty precise and detailed. Hitting a corner at very high speed should make you flip over in theory. It was fun having the LVPD cop cars hit a rock in the desert and veer off while chasing me. Also each car genuinely felt unique, with slow cars taking forever to go uphill, and some sports cars having terrible handling, and then Japanese cars like the Sultan having gorilla grip tires that let me drift through town. The only thing that really annoyed me was lack of traffic and smooth traffic behavior, and lack of weight to the cars. It felt so unreal to crash. GTA 5 is very cartoony with driving in a similar way that you can easily corner at high speeds I find, however at least cars finally have weight to them, and there's no feeling sweeter than skirting off quick in an SUV on the dirt in GTA V and feeling your controller rumble. It's so smooth and real
Great comparison, you forgot the 3 different fighting styles in GTA than can be learned in each gym in the three cities.

Yo this close to launch? You are a machine
Keep it up man i am hyped for the new vid🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One personal gripe of mine that a lot of videos like this seem to miss is that in Grand Theft Auto V - even though it was released nearly 8 years ago - still has extremely compressed audio files. Granted, I know compression helps when dealing with game size, if you ever get a chance to look at things like the phone call voice lines in the game's files, they're compressed (which, given that they're supposed to give the idea of an actual phone quality conversation is fair), but things are unnecessarily compressed too, like the actual NPC and character dialogue while you're out and about, and in missions.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has the best story mode I've ever played. The entire game is so seamless.

I think a part of the main reason for the GTA V hate is because we are 3 generations of systems in on the same tired game, and a lot of people couldn't care less about online play.
San Andreas was impressively innovative, and only 2 years after its predecessor.
GTA V has been milking the same cow for what is now approaching a decade with no added single player content, or sequel even close to arriving.
At this point I don't know if I even care about a GTA 6. Another 10 years focused solely on online content, then I think I'm okay with not caring anymore.
There's a reason why many of the lead writers and creators have left the company.

Great video! I really didn't like the weapons sound effects in GTA SA, it sounds really weird. In the old games you had to make some progression to unlock new areas, and that's what driven me to beat the old games.
I liked this video so much I let a 5 minute ad play afterwards
A lot of the "downsides" of SA can be fixed with mods. There's plenty of texture and model upgrade mods, plenty of ENB mods that add modern post processing like SSAO, depth of field, etc. There's even a really good ragdoll physics mod
