    **Apologies for the out of tune piano. This production was pretty spontaneous and we used the best instrument/venue available to us that day! I also think it’s admirable he plays as well as he does in a dry acoustic with such an exposed sound.**
    Elisey is one of the most mature pre-teens I've ever met, both in his personality and piano playing. I was fortunate to spend some time with him at the International Keyboard Odyssiad & Festival in Fort Collins, CO in the summer of 2023 and I managed capture this snapshot of his personality and pianism. (Read more about the "Odyssiad” here: odyssiad.com/festival-overview )
    Featured in this video is Natalia Trull, one of Elisey's teachers. You may know Trull from the recent 'Pianoforte' documentary where she is depicted as a dark presence hovering over Eva Gevorgyan at the Chopin Competition. I had to laugh when I saw that, because I found her to be a down-to-earth woman with a dry wit and a positive influence in the lives of her younger students she's tasked with mentoring. There is a level of intensity and seriousness with which talented young Russian pianists are pushed to realize their potential, and this might be unfamiliar to many of us in the west and especially the United States. But, as I show in this video, Trull holds a healthy attitude about Elisey's talent and development as a "normal kid."
    Elisey is now 13 years old, turning 14 this fall. He is also a composer and a child actor, although this video focuses on his primary pursuits in piano performance.

      A few years ago, I happen to see discover on TV with Andre Rieu. With his MOP hair, paraded out to be seen and heard. This appearance really TURNED ME OFF! It was so fake and plastic - like Andre Rieu is. Shall I say something unpleasant? Stay away from Rieu and get rid of the mop-hair! Sounds very shallow to say this, but it's a feeling that I get that he is not being taken seriously. Not that I think he should be serious, I dunno, it's a funny thing for me to say.
      I hope it doesn't come off to you as snobby. I have thought about this seriously, because he DOES have a fine talent. And he is not a "thing" to be paraded around. Is there any validity to my comments? 😐

      His teacher sees him twice a week that means on other days he studies each piece on his own and when he sees his teacher I can imagine his teacher just gives suggestions.
      In this interview his smile was very inspiring when he shared what his teacher suggested how he should play a piece and he demonstrated it. He had a naughty smile while playing the part as suggested by his teacher.

He's done this in another lifetime and is back again to play and be the example of what our absolute genius Creator God, and the human body is capable of! What a gem!!! Fantastic talent, and the perfect teacher to cultivate his abilities with freedom! I love it!! Well done, both!

      I doubt that this is really a good thing.
      A child shouldn’t be already mature at that age.
      I'm not quite sure what it is, but he seems pretty hesitant and withdrawn. It seems like there's something in him that he's holding back and suppressing, and people interpret that as composure or maturity.

    • @danielliang9266
      @danielliang9266 Месяц назад +7

      @@MarxistischerMillionaer I disagree. In my opinion, a certain level of capability requires maturity. And it's clear that he is playful around people he is close with. It's also clear that he enjoys what he's doing when he smiles while talking about it to Ben.
      And regarding the withholding, it didn't strike me as odd because of 2 people ik irl who have a similar personality. Smart people, little awkward when you're not very close to them, but once you are closer they're actually somewhat talkative.

    • @MarxistischerMillionaer
      @MarxistischerMillionaer Месяц назад

      @@danielliang9266 sometimes it is just an imposed maturity because the child has to take on responsibilities that are not age-appropriate ….at the expense of other important childhood needs. Similar to children who experience parentification.
      My point is just that it isn’t automatically a good thing if a child is already mature
      …from an adult perspective maybe

      @@Paroles_et_Musique Not sure if you get my point:
      Maturity that is too advanced at a certain age should raise red flags just as much as the lack of maturity at a certain age.
      It’s quite possible that being a concert pianist, wearing suits, playing in a concert hall in front of an audience, dealing with stage fright requires more than "normal" maturity for a 12 year old

    I am sincerely glad to see Elisey turning into an excellent and dedicated pianist. Seeing the cheap glitz of too many shows he was involved in, it was rather scary to think that the people surrounding him would neglect his development as a true musician. It seems I was wrong: someone caring about his talent is also guarding over his growth.

    Great to se his rare gift is in such good hands (first of all himself). I'm not surprised at all he starts working on interpretation in his head first, it's the shortest and purest way to fluent interpretation/playing and may partly explain how he became such a gifted player (most lesser players including myself tend to neglect that prime source of kissing awake one's true spirit ending up spending way more time to get way lesser results).

      It is not a blessing, it is Russian government policy. Children are selected by ability early on, mainly on aural abilities for music education, and are given FREE boarding and the best tuition, unlimited.
      It is not a rare phenomena, currently there are quite a few other young pianists in Russia, behing the iron curtain that western governments shut onto Russia, so parents of any gifted kid do not have any idea about what opportunities are given to young talents in Russia.

    Many (myself included) refer to music as an “international language”…. If a composer or musician strives to portray rage, romance, despair, or joy, it matters not what their, or their listeners spoken language is, the message will be clear.
    I’ve noticed that this young man is playing without sheet music… “singing” passionately, from the heart, with his fingers…
