- The Black Dyke Band performs Paul Lovatt-Cooper's "Immortal" at Leeds Metropolitan University, who hold the copyright to this footage.
Thanks to Leeds for posting the entire Gala concert, available in two RUclips clips that together run about an hour and a half, uploaded June 1, 2009.
Thanks also to 'Tuber @drumlife09 who posted "immortal" by itself in early October 2009. I would never have known this tune existed but for that. :)
My sole reason for posting this is that its audio / video synchronization is better than that of the earlier clip's. Enjoy. :)
This is one of my favorite pieces to listen to.
this is perfection! such an amazing band - To me Brass bands in Britain are one of the most important tradition which I hope will continue!
Mesmerizing!! This is one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard! I can't stop listening to it!! As a trumpet player myself I am astounded at the skill of this band!
Wow, fantastic band sound, wonderful duets, amazing cornet solo.
such a wonderful piece of music......I love it!!!
All those moving sixteenth notes are usually played by string sections, and it's quite heartening to hear professional brass take on those passages. An overall very endearing opus.
you guys play : FANTASTIC !!!!! Respect !!!!!!!
A brilliant band doing a brilliant performance.
What a glorious sound the principal cornet has.... beauty
RUclips needs a love button. Like is simply not sufficient here.
have it on my phone listen to it every night before i go to sleep :)

Richard Marshall has the best tone I have ever heard.

I Love the Bass Trombone at 03:47
@turnitback I'd safely say taht concert was one of the best you have ever attended. I would love to attend a concert. Mostly they play in the North of England and I am never there but. Increasingly I feel that a great brass band, and of course this is a truly great band, is a musical delight. I would love to hear them live.
Epic.........
Have a look at the band's own website. They sell recordings of this and a lot more.
I've met Richard Marshall! God of the cornet!
With the International Staff Band of the Salvation army it's my favourite band ! amazing sound and feeling !
Brilliant.

@TheLB1974 Listening to the band, I have no doubt that PLC is indeed a genius; but who is he or she?
to all pepole of the brass band world Google eikanger bjorsvik musikklag
Pretty sure I have a recording of them doing First Circle and it's amazing!
scores for trumpet ?
theres no seat warmers in this band is there?
A couple of pedal notes eh? Haha
Is it me, or does the Euphonium soloist look like Newman from Seinfeld?
Is ERIK BALL YOU SON OR TWIN SOLIE DEO GLORIA
Brilliant playing, the bands name is Immortal.
Couldn't they have come up with a less offensive name for this Band?
The band was named over 150 years ago and there was nothing offensive about it at the time. :) See Wikipedia's entry on the band.
You guys had to take your time to explain to this...person about why it's not "offensive". People like this LIVE for it. It's their raison d'être. I'm sure they've been "offended" 20 times today. They could have looked it up for themselves, instead.
faffaflunkie it was named after the dark waters of the stream that runs through Queensbury
What an ignorant comment! No understanding of history, place or language. Typical comment saturated with Cultural Marxism. An ideology that respects no cultural identity, history, geography or language.
Wokeness and liberalism, progressivist.
Read the history of this outstanding band. Stop revisionist history and tell the truth!
All flare and no substance.
I have a friend who thinks this sounds too much like a piece written only to be played at competitions - but that's not at all how I'm hearing it. I love this piece. :) And I definitely feel a rush, every time, as it begins to near its conclusion.
Two things worth noting: Composer PLC majored in percussion, and many of this band compositions make unusual and IMO very effective use of percussion. PLC also grew up as a "Salvation Army brat", though he's not a Salvationist now, so I'm told. However, most if not all of his tunes have a SA song/hymn embedded within them. I'm ot sure that's the case here - probably it is, but I have no idea what SA tune that would be.
