    My mom had one of theese when she was younger. The car was so light that she and her father could lift it up and move it from place to place. One time they just lifted the 2CV when it was "sandiwched" between two cars on a park, and move it outside the parking space.

    Citroën, an automotive icon, such amazing engineering, hydropneumatic self levelling suspension, amazing cars like the DS, CX, BX, GSA to name a few and then the masterpiece, the tin snail, the 2CV, not just a car but a state of mind, happiness on 4 wheels. Best engine sound is the Citroën air cooled flat twin engine, musical. People don't realise how unitive and advanced these little cars are. The owner is very hot too

  • @BrianDamaged23
    @BrianDamaged23 7 лет назад +3

    If you've ever seen a disassembled engine from one of these, you'd understand why they are virtually bombproof. Truly MASSIVE main bearings. They will run flat out all day without complaint.

  • @philmaggs2248
    @philmaggs2248 7 лет назад +48

    You can scare the shit out of passengers in a 2cv round corners, they lean like crazy but they are super communicative so for the driver it's not that scary at all (once you are used to it), you know where the (modest) grip levels are, the brakes are also considerably better than you expect as they are inboard discs up front which are cooled by the engine fan, good feel too, you can hit speed bumps as fast as you like (until you start getting air time then you need to slow down) without causing damage, ridiculously easy and cheap to fix, everything is DIY - half the jobs you can do without even jacking the car up. Just not a daily, they struggle with anymore than 2 passengers...with 4 people i struggled to hit 56mph flat out, and holding the car on a hill with what many people takes firm pressure on the brake pedal and hearty revving to get moving, and it will wear you down on a long journey, luckily being air cooled you can run the engine flat out all day without complaint. I would only have one again as something fun though, or cheap transport round a rural area or something, just not a daily :D

      I was once a passenger in a 2cv. West of Scotland. Windy roads.
      Good experience. Car didn't crash. Felt fast.
      Got to where to where we were going.
      It did lean over a bit on corners but it never tipped over.
      Fun wee cars.
      Luv and Peace.

    • @detaart
      @detaart 7 лет назад

      +Ian Edmonds "Felt fast" That's where i know you are talking nonsense. You were never a passenger in one were you? lol
      A bicycle is faster than one of these.

    • @philmaggs2248
      @philmaggs2248 7 лет назад

      Ian Edmonds they can't tip as long as you are going forwards they just lean like crazy, its a different matter in reverse though so no J turns haha. They arnt without thier vices, most people i know think they are hideous. Any sensation of speed will come from the fact they are tin boxes with little to no insulation of any kind!

    • @Galf506
      @Galf506 7 лет назад +2

    My grandma had one of these wit a centrifugal clutch (an early automatic shifter) hardtop with a trunk. The engine exploded and the cylinders flew out of the hood. It was because of the centrifugal clutch over-reving the engine downhill. Engine parts and the two cylinders landed on peoples’ lawns.

      I've seen it, but it doesn't matter. As a guy who partially remembers them on the road over here, it was not fault of the car maker, it was fault of central planning "Comecon" which crippled other car brand/makers in the block.
      It's car worth re-reviewing.

      That stretch of road is where they test aston martins, jaguars and range rovers. So quite often you're pottering along and something screams up behind you in disguised camo print doing well over a ton making everything move out the way.
      I would not want to drive a 2cv down that road.

  • @liverush24

    I remember in the 80s they were quite common on the streets, usually driven by hippy teachers. Despite the Renault 4L selling twice as much it was always the 2CV that was more common in my town. Also someone had a 2CV Dyane (more rare) which was a more upmarket variant with square body style and faired-in lights.

    • @no1DdC
      @no1DdC 7 лет назад +6

      digitalrailroader I think it's more apt to describe it as France's Beetle. The Model T really didn't have any competition until when near the end of its production run the Austin 7 appeared. Sure, there were other cheap cars in the '20s, but most didn't sell very well. Citroën built about 80000 5CV, which was a predecessor of the 2CV and directly competed with the Model T at the bottom end of the market.

    Here's Chris Harris' exceptional video on this car that is mentioned in this video:
    videos.sapo.pt/84zjVpwOeVPfmsQfiuIP
    Sadly, it has been removed from RUclips for some reason, so I had to resort to this slightly sketchy site.

      One of his best videos. Me thinks nbc ordered the original taken down though when they bought the footage for their drive show.

    You should really try the Polish Fiat 126p one day, Mr Regular. Also 2-cyl 650ccm air-cooled engine (26bhp I think), but it sits in the rear and is powering rear wheels. Wonder how these two would compare....
