my teacher is teaching me this on guitar, and it sure isn't easy. the stretch is unbelievable, and Rick is great at doing barre chords especially during a whole concert!
I think you're kinda missing the point! I would say he's probably the best rhythm player ever. Nothing more exciting than the opening of a Quo gig when Rick hammers out this rhythm.
In the 70's I was into the likes of Floyd and Zep, but the albums Piledriver, Hello, Quo, On The Level, and Blue For You are treasured possessions, an abiding memory is being at Quo gigs incl two of the three nights recording the Live album at the Glasgow Apollo when Quo really rocked the place with stuff like Big Fat Mama, Fortyfive Hundred Times, etc, its something I'll never forget, Quo were special, just incredible, and yeah that balcony at the Apollo really did "move" when Quo played there.
I love Quo.I've seen them many time but one time I got to see them in a club in Toronto Canada. The hard-rock cafa.I was right on the stage monitor two feet from Rick. After a ripping run through of backwater I called to Rick,"Rick" I said,"your a god, what can I say" He chuckled and gave me his pick.I still have that pick.Quo4ever :)
I've been a quo fan all my life and I've never seen rick play it as good as this, it's those little bits he does in the verse that makes the song :D rock on rick.
That's true but at the same time there's certain guitarists who although not "technical" guys in the vein of Yngwie,Vai, Satch etc have an instantly recognisable feel to their playing which makes the tunes work. Malcolm Young is another a good example along with Izzy Stradlin on the early GN'R stuff.
@MrFlyffking Hi Ralf - We ship to Germany - unfortunately the dvd doesnt have subtitles. If you wish to have anymore info on the dvd follow the link in the description - or just send us a message back and we'd be happy to help.
@MrFlyffking Hey no problem - i was thinking would your dvd player or tv have an option where you can select subtitles? Might be an option. So it automatically detects the language? Sorry we don't have subtitles.
@cc75frenchygirl If you think THAT'S a stretch, you should try The Beatles' "I Feel Fine", which has several G-major barre chords on the third fret, where your pinkie has to momentarily reach the sixth fret -- which that far down the neck is an even bigger stretch than what you see here.
