The clan abided by the "Hands Off" code. Harrigan defeated their hunter and therefore could not be touched. The clan leader "Greyback" gave him the flintlock pistol as a trophy for his victory over the "City Hunter".
That is absolutely an Alien skull on the Predator trophy wall, haha. Late 80s and into the 90s Dark Horse comics had both an Aliens series and a Predator series running, and eventually they came up with a crossover, Aliens vs Predator. So the filmmakers planted the alien skull as a reference to the comic books. Eventually there would be several Alien VS Predator video games and movies! It's a new director for this movie but it has the same writers, brothers Jim and John Thomas.
The idea behind Predator 2 was based on the comic Concrete Jungle originally involving a brother of Dutch Schaeffer who is a police officer and took place in New York. Since they could not get Arnold to come back for the sequel they changed the setting of the story to Los Angeles. The predator in this film is a more of a wild being who won a lottery and was given the reward to go on a wild hunt in an human urban city.
The Predator isn't especially compassionate (at least not to humans) they just have rules and there is no sport in hunting something that cannot defend itself. Had she not been pregnant, she'd be dead because she had a gun and was a threat.
Your comment got me thinking about another potential Predator film with an intriguing script for a change The most remarkable aspect about predators as a species is their hunting rule and it can be utilized to the fullest by placing predators in a war setting this time around in which predators would obviously fight soldiers on both sides and they would protect civilians also at the same time which would result in civilans paying a lot of respect for them eventually by worshiping them
@@JohnSmith-jn7nc The Predator wouldn't have any interest in protecting unarmed civilians from other humans, they would simply avoid killing them so as to not break their own rules. In fact, the Predator species is attracted to Earth specifically because of how violent we are towards one another.
@@vincentdawn9689 Yes, I know that, but by simply interfiring in the conflict predators could make a drastic change and gain some respect and admiration from innocent civilians I think that my idea for the film would make for an interesting story which wouldn't be the same old cliche script structured like a typical horror/slasher with all of those tropes we've seen before. The audince already knows how predator looks like and what their abilities are. That's why the element of suprise is long gone and by making another Predator a horror/slasher once again the failure of negative response from audience and critics is almost inevitable
@@JohnSmith-jn7nc but there is a one problem in your story, you see predator in every movie is a background character, we follow someone else a human and in your story we would either follow a soldier or a civilian, if we follow a soldier then it would fall back into the clishe predator movie and if we follo the civilian then there are a good chance that the movie would be boring
34:13 Yes. That is in fact a xenomorph skull. This one short scene is what tied the Alien and Predator franchises together at the hip. In case you were wondering, the Aliens are a HUGE part of the Predator society. No Predator can officially enter adulthood until they have faced an Alien in single combat with nothing but bladed weapons. Upon killing a xenomorph, the Predator then becomes ‘blooded’, meaning that the Aliens acidic blood is used to literally burn a mark into the victorious Predator’s head, almost always the mark of the clan they belong to.
Just answering some questions: -according to expanded universe (comics, novels and such) the predators are alien species called Yautija, and their society is built around gaining honor points and building reknown by hunting and making trophies of dangerous species - the more big game you successfully hunt, the more respected you become, -predators are not merciful, but honorable. Strict rules prohibit them from killing unarmed or unfit prey (like sick or pregnant), otherwise they tarnish their reputation and loose social status (also in many cases they try to match their weapons to thier opponent, eg, using writst blades/spears against melee combatants and ranged weapons against people with guns), -the movie indeed shows futuristic version of LA (action takes place in 1997 and the movie was released in 1990), -predators visited Earth many times in the past (but kept a low profile), they view human race as worthy prey becouse of our violent tendencies and ability to craft simple yet effective weapons.
Yes, that was a xenomorph skull. If you seen Alien and Aliens you'll understand everything in AVP Alien vs Predator. There's also Predators about a hunt by a team of Predators. And the recent movie Prey is predator adjacent. Dark Horse Comics have published a lot of Predator , Alien, and Terminator comics independently of the movies making up their own back stories.
Predator 2 is awesome!! I'm sure there's people out there who don't like it for their own reasons, but it seems like a lot of people say they don't like it simply because Arnold isn't in it, and that's super lame
Glad you had fun with it, people usually say its not as good as the first but i absolutely loved it as a kid just as much as the first. kids at that time people usually had the life sized poster of Michael Jordan but i had the life sized City Hunter Predator poster with full breakdown of his weapons and gear : D
I like this one almost equally to the original. We, the audience know what's up, but the cops do not. So you get a sort of police drama with a lot of action and some suspense. The mystique of what the Predator looks like and his motivation is pretty much common knowledge if you've seen the first movie. I feel they made an excellent sequel. New setting, another hunter with different weapons and a great ending, with room for more storytelling. Nice reaction, get well soon.
The justification for violence can be outweighed with justification for mercy. With Leona this was one of those times. Honor means something to most Predators in their culture.
They're very different but both good, and better than any of the trash that was made later. The Predators are trophy hunters, who only go after dangerous prey (which is why they generally don't target non-combatants - presumably there's no honour or prestige in it). I assume they keep coming back to Earth because we produce a good supply of killers for them to test themselves against, and we keep getting better and better at it.
I think the story goes, Arnold was making Terminator 2 at the time of filming Predator 2. I could be wrong but I remember hearing that in an interview.
This one is pleasantly different, as the first movie made me wonder how it would do in a big city instead of a jungle, and gave much more background lore between the ship, the skull wall and the "hunting party" of other predators that appeared at the end, and the trophy. Predators are very protective of their technology (like they'll blow themselves up to protect it) so it made sense that the only trophy they would give Mike for his victory was a human trophy from a previous visit to Earth. No alien technology given. Unfortunately, almost every other Predator movie after this is pure crap, until the very recent Prey. I'd recommend moving straight from this to Prey next. It even has a nice connection to this movie.
What no one mentions about this movie is that in 1990 a major studio released a high profile motion picture with a black male lead and loads of black and brown actors in large and small roles.
Hey Amanda! Great reaction as always! You are correct in asking if this is an "alternate 1997" it was the writers intent to show an United States in the earliest stages of falling apart. With civilians no longer trusting in the government institutions. Criminal factions openly warring with each other. And Government officials turning away from civil liberties.. The signs are fairly subtle but the thought process is that The Predator would only hunt in an environment that was chaotic enough to create the most desperate and thus most danger people for it to hunt. Not knowing if the US government was strong enough to effectively interfere with the hunt is also likely a factor. And why I believe the other Predators were waiting on the ship as backup..
When this movie came out, it took place in the far flung future of 1997. It wasn't too far off, but yeah they envisioned an LA engulfed with terrible crime. Also that guy in the black uniform talking to Glover played the Police Captain from the Lethal Weapon movies, which Glover was also in. I'm not sure what else Ruben Blades was in movie wise, but he also was in the the tv show Fear The Walking Dead.
Said it before and I'll say it again, Predator 2 is awesome. Its always been my 2nd favorite in the series and my love for it only gets bigger. Does it have flaws? Sure, but it also respected what came before in the original, expanded on the lore and weapons of the Predator just enough, we saw a lot more of the Predator, Kevin Peter Hall (RIP) played City Hunter differently from Jungle Hunter to give him his own distinction, great cast, very well done action scenes, awesome setting having it take place in the city, cool take having it be a detective story, etc. It wasn't just a retread of the original and expanded on and or changed on the important aspects to make it just that. Director Stephen Hopkins (The Life & Death Of Peter Sellers, The Ghost & The Darkness, Judgment Night) did a very solid job with it, especially when you take into account he had to work on Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (during a writer's strike mind you and had an incredibly finite time to make it) and Predator 2 at the same time for a certain amount of time which is insane. While the original is still tops (for me personally) Predator 2 is awesome and is still the best sequel in the franchise.
The Predator didn’t show compassion when it spared Leona. It spared her because killing a pregnant mother is one of the biggest taboos in Predator society. Had he killed her, he would have INSTANTLY branded himself as a “Bad Blood” to his own people, and they would have started a hunt for HIM. Also, the date one the pistol the Elder Predator gives Harrigan at the end reads 1715, but they’ve actually been visiting Earth a LOT longer than that. "Where's army, where's military?" In their basses, due Posse Comitatus act. You cannot use military force in U.S. to enforce the law, until most dire and exceptional circumstances. But what comes to movie itself: Underrated action Gem and good sequel. People talk trash this film, because they wanted Arnold back. So people heard initial trash talk and trash talk this film without properly even watching it.
I really do hope you get better soon .... You have a great eye Amanda, that is Ruben Blades (Danny Archuleta). He had roles in a couple of movies in the 1990s. I remember him in another movie with Whoopi Goldberg "Fatal Beauty." Also noteworthy is María Conchita Alonso who played Det. Leona Cantrell was born in Cuba, but grew up in Venezuela ....
Predators has some ok elements, but it's not as good as this movie. However, it's much better than what came after... It took me out of the movie in the beginning when the spetsnaz guy blasts away at nothing, giving away his position - which is not something a highly trained commando would do. Mimic certainly starts strong with the "Skinny Man" idea. Another movie with a similar vibe is The Relic from the same year. I think they're both equally enjoyable.
I like the new location! Also hope you get well soon. I also have a cold and can’t wait til I stop coughing. This movie gets lots of hate, but I think it’s just because the first movie is so good. This one isn’t bad at all imo, it’s just the bar was set so high. I’m not a big fan of the rest of the franchise, except for Prey. It’s very good!
The original film was great, but I've always preferred this one as it gives the audience a lot more nuanced and character driven dynamic for the predator and his species. Not forgetting many more viscerally gory deaths by the City Hunter compared to the Jungle Hunter from the original.
Hi Amanda! Honestly you don't need to apologize for being sick or sneezing. Its ok to be human, and I appreciate your videos just the same, sick or not. :) Please take care and get well soon!! I would make you some chicken noodle soup but how could I upload it to you? :p
I wouldn't agree with you that Predator 2 is "lambasted" by most people. It's just that some people think the first movie is better. Personally, I like Predator 2.
Get well soon! As for what to watch next, and I don't know if anyone else will agree with me but I think it's well worth going straight to Prey, the most recent Predator film. It at least has a tangible connection the second Predator film whereas I think the other films from the early 2000s onwards feel more like standalone titles(and aren't all that great, imho).
And a little rant about this predator. He is basically in his late teens and having WAY too much fun. He has a whole ship of clan mates with him hunting and they arent making the kind of carnage he is. He's reckless. So he starts with the cartells but realizes frank is the better prey. He starts targeting franks "pack" to send a message. Leaves dannies necklace as a challenge. And doesnt kill the girl because killing her would also kill the unborn and unarmed child which is against the laws of honor. But he couldnt inagine loosing to some random human cop no matter how impressed he was. So he throws out one liners till the very end and still looses. The arrogance. Meanwhile the clan leader is just sitting there shaking his head at all the blunders his warrior is making. But know, those blunders are his to make.
@Amanda Miquilena - Glad you enjoyed Predator 2 - It is very often not appreciated by people, because the environnent is quite different than from the 1st predator movie. However, i still think it is quite enjoyable, and Danny Glover does a good job. I would HIGHLY recommend watching 'Prey' ( 2022) which is a 'prequel' to the first movie but it is as good if not even better than the first predator movie. And the lead actor in 'Prey' is actually a woman so it is great to have a Heroine taking up the fight against the predator.
Some people when they sound sick they are like a plague from a zombie movie. Your voice just got richer and deeper like a former famous diva singer that married El Presidente.
Predator 2 definitely doesn't get the respect it deserves. In my opinion. It's just as good as or even better than part I. I get that people love Arnold and wish he would've been in this one but I think Danny Glover did a fantastic job. Predators or the Yautja as their species is called. Use earth as one of their hunting grounds. So they try to find the most dangerous/worthy humans to battle and kill for trophies. They won't kill anyone who is unarmed or women/children. They will totally respect anyone who can kill one of their own. Which is why Mike did not get annihilated at the end. In any case. I loved your reaction. I hope that you continue on with the Predator franchise.
Ok. This was a GREAT sequel. It expanded the Predator universe and folks hated it, for which, I know not why. Prey was a great one and Dark Ages as good. I just feel don't give up on Predator flicks cause of a few bad ones. Dracula had a few flops as well...
The army isnt something that gets deployed in the USA. Theyre only for foreign combat. LA has SWAT(special weapons and tactics) used for this kind of stuff. Or the national guard can be deplyoed by the state governor.
Hi Amanda , I enjoyed your reaction to the first and the second predator movie thank you and my fav part is when Mike Sees all the predators !!! I hope you watch The Other predator movies.
The Yautja race has a code of honor and conduct for their hunts, so it is considered shameful to kill defenseless or sick beings. Although Leona is armed and a threat, her baby is defenseless, which is why she was spared. I don't know if you like comics, but if you do, look for the Batman vs Predator crossover.
Humans and aliens being killed/eviscerated are okay to be shown in this video but Amanda cleaning her nose is pixelated/censored. After all, the mucus is the same color as the Predator's blood so if that should be okay as well...
The clan abided by the "Hands Off" code. Harrigan defeated their hunter and therefore could not be touched. The clan leader "Greyback" gave him the flintlock pistol as a trophy for his victory over the "City Hunter".

Why would you want to be a young Lando Calrissian?
@user-fh6mc9du5n you're right, I don't. I'm not into banging droids
Wow I never knew Ruben was a singer. He was in quite a few movies in the 90s. Good catch!!
He was also a politician in his native Panama.

Great reaction and at 34:10 yes that is an alien skull it was an in joke that later lead to the Alien V Predator movies
Didn't notice you were sick until you mentioned it. Good lighting setup.
I hope you feel better!
Ok. This was a GREAT sequel. It expanded the Predator universe and folks hated it, for which, I know not why. Prey was a great one and Dark Ages as good. I just feel don't give up on Predator flicks cause of a few bad ones. Dracula had a few flops as well...
Also Venezuelan actress Maria Conchita Alonso
I'm tired of all this predator shaming. I'm sure he was considered a very handsome predator on his predator planet.
agree. the only bad thing is no arnold. 3 will answer lots of your questions.
The army isnt something that gets deployed in the USA. Theyre only for foreign combat. LA has SWAT(special weapons and tactics) used for this kind of stuff. Or the national guard can be deplyoed by the state governor.
That Worker and Parasite insert tho....
Ending in the gun Preda movie!
Please react to :
• *Predators* (2010)
_starring Adrien Brody_
Also I recommend you Alien Saga, and then *Alien vs Predator* (2004)
You should watch Twister. Such a good movie.
"He's hung."
Hope you watch "Prey" next. Possibly the best of these movies.
My kitty eats plastic flowers also.
Hi Amanda , I enjoyed your reaction to the first and the second predator movie thank you and my fav part is when Mike Sees all the predators !!! I hope you watch The Other predator movies.
Predator 3(called Predators, plural with an S) is very underrated and great too. Would recommend that one
Yes. That is what Predators means. 🤨🙄
Where did you buy that mic from
I enjoyed this movie as much as the first one
Wow I'm early, let's roll it! 👉
15:56 No, people have no rights to know. They are just lumpens and crowd.
I always thought the same, its just as good as the 1st one 👊
Bravo.
How’s he gonna “Turn up missing” if he’s missing? He’s not gonna turn up anywhere
Yes, this is a Alien-Skull. For further information watch Alien vs. Predator.
16:40 That's what she said.
It is Reuban Blades
Me gusto tu reaccion bella señorita , saludos cordiales de latam.
Humans and aliens being killed/eviscerated are okay to be shown in this video but Amanda cleaning her nose is pixelated/censored. After all, the mucus is the same color as the Predator's blood so if that should be okay as well...
I thought you were ordered to stay 1000 feet from high schools.
Good luck in new apt. What film caused the waterworks?
