If you just give him a chance and get to know him, you'll find out that he's a pretty funny guy. You know he enjoys hunting, but he also likes long walks on the beach, puppies, pulse plasma weaponry, and solving anagrams. His favorite color is thistle, and more than anything he'd like to hunt humans in Paris someday.

As a "Real Native American Warrior", When Billy made his stand, He intentionally cut himself to deny his Enemy from drawing "First Blood". It's the ultimate Insult to their opponent.
The Predators are a Warrior Species that's using Planets like Earth as "Game Reserves", Hunting only the "Animals" that can give them a worthy fight.
The Predators Eerie "Laugh" was it Mimicking Billy's.
The End's Helicopter Pilot was Kevin Peter Hall (RIP)... He also played the Predator.

Billy is the romantic version of a true total warrior.......interestingly, something men find very admirable and aspire to but they most often die.
Maybe it is dying valiantly.....or dying well that is the attractive quality.

Like a stereotypical action hero, Dutch was originally supposed to beat the Predator when they fought hand to hand, but it was Arnold who said that that would be ridiculous - "I can't beat him. He's a monster. I'm just a man" - so the story was rewritten with the Predator beating the crap out Dutch and Dutch having use his wits (and a bit of luck) to prevail. It's not that often that a Hollywood star puts plot logic ahead of self glorification.

I like learning more about it through you, too! An animated show that really did it justice too was the most recent Carmen Sandiego show. Since she herself is South American (Argentine), it makes sense that they would be so respectful and honest toward the world’s geography and cultures.

Great channel, love your reactions, the eye rolls, the stares of exasperation, and your sense of humour, it makes watching with you more fun. I agree with you that Hollywood often relies on stereotypes and outdated tropes when setting a story in South America, I was always under the impression that this story took place somewhere in Central America given the time period (late 70s to late 80s), and the heavy U.S. political and military involvement in the region, notably El Salvador and Honduras. Again I really like the channel and always look forward to seeing your next video.

  • @ComedicPause

The Predator is basically what we would consider a thrill-seeking big game hunter here on earth. On whatever planet the Predator is from (they flesh out the species a little more in the underrated sequel), he's probably a rich elite who wants to decorate his mansion with the skins and skulls of the most dangerous game. From the Predator's perspective, the most dangerous game is unfortunately humans. He took Billy's skull as a trophy because Billy tried to 1v1 him with only a machete once he realized that the Predator was just in this for the sport, and the Predator saw Billy as a worthy adversary. When the Predator sees that Dutch (Arnold) actually became a challenge for him, he decided to try and 1v1 Arnold w/o weapons because of pride.
I really like how much they revealed about the creature and its motivations without force-feeding it to the audience through clunky dialogue or exposition. I think the director didn't even want the opening shot with the space ship in the film because he wanted the audience to be as confused as the troops were in the beginning, learning throughout the movie that they were being attacked by an ET, but the producers insisted on the space shot because they doubted the intelligence of the audience.
Obligatory RIP Carl Weathers. That handshake with Schwarzenegger will forever be iconic in it's masculinity.

Even after all the debate about the rain forests of South America, this wasn't even filmed there. This was in Mismaloya, on the West coast of Mexico. Apparently the conditions were still pretty awful for filming, with actors getting bitten by fire ants and such. Also, the helicopter pilot at the end (the black guy, at 27:08) was Kevin Peter Hall, the actor inside the suit who played the Predator. He was about 7 feet tall (213cm) but with the robotic Predator head on top of his, it made him 8 feet (244cm) tall.

It kinda bothers me when people take a movie from the 70s or 80s and say, "Great special effects -- for the time period." Hey, a lot of really good movies had some really fantastic special effects from that time period, even by today's standards. Practical effects will always be better than CGI effects anyway.

Amanda, LOL you are not old. The person writing this is 39 years old. Unfortunately I live inside this container which is 76-1/2 years old. Really, when I encountered my 39'th birthday I said, "That's it!" no more aging. So for the last 36 years I have had anniversaries of my 39th birthday. Everyone should consider that as a solution to old age.
Sadly as I watch this I remember that Carl Weathers passed a few days ago.
    Love your reactions always.

If I remember correctly they filmed this in Costa Rica. Like the girl said in the movie, “the demon who makes trophies of men”. So the predator is basically on safari on earth to get some trophies of dangerous game animals. I’m totally in agreement with your rant! Like I commented on the last video, even here in the US if a movie takes place anywhere but a city, the people are dim witted, cloths unkempt, cars old and beat up, etc…Hollywood is terrible about stereotyping.

Monster actor Kevin Peter Hall had two famous but opposite roles in his career, the terrifying Predator and the goofball bigfoot Harry in the family comedy Harry and the Hendersons, he is also the pilot of the helicopter at the end. And RIP Carl Weathers

When they all fire into the jungle after Blaine dies is called "The Mad Minute". There are many definitions, one of which is to fire a large amount of ammunition if the direction of a threat axis to overwhelm or discourage a possible attack. You'll notice that they fire their weapons for just about a minute.

Predator is a popular choice for reactors, so I almost skipped this one. I'm glad I didn't, as you focused on parts of the movie that most people, don't and completely skipped parts that are often highlighted. Plus your ideas and insights were entertaining as usual *and* you had a guest star for a few seconds there! I was worried that your precarious camera setup was going to give me Blair Witch style motion sickness, but it did not :)

13:48 "So the Predator can take any form?" In the book, the Predator was a shape shifter. I would touch an animal, absorb what it need to assume the animal's form, and the animal would die as a result. I remember there was sequence when the Predator was flying over the jungle in the form of a bird, and I thought "Either the Predator can shrink itself down to the size of a normal bird, or it's transformed itself into a freakishly huge bird" both of which seemed silly, so I'm glad the movie went with invisibility instead. I especially like that the invisibility isn't perfect.

16:15 "Request for extraction denied" and you asking if they're just abandoning them makes me think of the opening of "The Rock" (1996) when one of Gen. Hummel's Marines who come under heavy attack during a covert operation says "They're not coming for us, are they, sir?"

What a cast! RIP Apollo Creed, Dillon Carl Weathers, may u live on forever! Jesse Ventura was an ex operator and actually bigger than Arnold, and they were never filmed standing together! Bill duke was an amazing actor...juliard trained and amazing in American jiggolo! Billy was a complete wildman and had 2 guys for 24/7 security. Not for his protection but to keep him out of trouble!! The helicopter pilot is the Predator! They gave him one speaking line, so he could get a film credit and his sag card! There's many more predator films and Alien vs Predator! There's also a much larger tie in here. Aliens predators humans Replicants and Terminators are all related by a race of beings called Engineers, discussed in the movie Prometheus! In the 80-90s, Arnold was the absolute movie king of the one liners/memes! So many to repeat, but the most repeated line and meme in history is, " I'll be back!" Hard to believe this movie is almost 40 years old!
