  • This iconic tune from the Legend of Zelda is one of my personal favorites. This cover is structured around the idea of an Etude/exercise of arpeggios for the right hand. There's so much potential with this theme that'll I'll definitely be revisiting it.

    =======(The Details)=======
It's been a little while since I uploaded something so technique heavy. I definitely flubbed one or two chords at some point (the recording pressure is real). More practice is required but IMO notes aren't everything. Let me know if you can hear the mistake, as I'm curious if it's as glaring as I think. Otherwise, I may have to take a week off to practice and arrange before the next upload. Wish me luck.

I picture Link, weary from all the horrors he has faced in the field, numb from all the monsters and dark magic, tearing off the sword and all his items that have weighed him down, limping his way to take a rest at the fairy fountain. Close to death from mortal wounds and sheer exhaustion, he is filled filled with memories of the times before Gannon, and how good life is. As the fountain heals his wounds, he loses control of his emotions as he realizes how important his mission is and how failing could destroy the world. He slowly comes to grips that he’s in too deep, and he cannot give up, as he glances at the Master Sword sitting beside the fountain, he knows he must see this to the end.

Sometimes when I listen to a song from a game that came out a while ago it pains me, because I know I will never be able to have the same experience as the people who first got it. It is freaking MAGICAL and is hands down the best game I've ever played. I legit feel like a little kid when I play it. There are hundreds of hours worth of gameplay in that game. Everytime you discover a new aspect of the game, you get a burst joy followed by an eagerness to continue exploring. Without laying on the story too thick, you still become emotionally attached to the characters, driving you to complete more and more of the game. Not to mention, there is loads of content that hardly ever gets tiring (except Koroks lmao). It honestly has been my favorite game of all time and I hope that you have the same moving and wonderful experience with it that I had.

10 years from now, you are sitting in a cafe doing your work on your laptop, all grown up with the responsibilities of the world on your shoulders, all the anxiety filling you up from the inside, suddenly you hear a familiar tune, one that struck your mind through all the noises around you and through the loud voices in your head. It comes from a kid sitting on the next table playing the latest legend of zelda game on his latest nintendo handheld. Suddenly you are transported to your childhood home, playing the zelda game of your youth, all the memories with the game and the carefree life you had at the time come flushing in - completing your first dungeon, getting your first sword, finishing the game for the fist time, and how nothing else in the world mattered for you more then defeating that one enemy or boss you for the life of you could not do. With a tear falling down on your hand, you are transported back to the cafe, where the kid and his parents packed up and left. After sobbing for a while and reminiscing for a while, you go back to your everyday worries, a tad bit relived with the memories of the simpler times a long time ago...

This is how I view this song portraying BOTW.
    0:00
Zelda has always been told that the blood and power of the Goddess Hylia resides within her and it is her duty to harness it to defeat the new coming of Ganon. She was never able to hear the voice of the Goddess, nor was she ever able to ask her mother of her power, for her passing came too soon. This was the prophesy she was born to fulfill. So, why did it seem as though she was lost without any guidance?
    0:20
All across Hyrule there were tales of this "Link." A quiet boy, but the tales of his courage spoke volumes to the people. Apparently, this message got to her father too. The princess couldn't help but feel jealousy in the fact that her father's attention and praise was so easily guided towards the Hylian boy.
    0:35
Soon enough, after spotting him in the castle on more than one occasion, her father finally introduced the two. Unfortunately for Zelda, King Rhoam had assigned Link as the Princess' knight. For heaven's sake, right? She had no inherent reason to dislike him. Only having jealousy directed towards him as a means of self doubt. It made her mad at times that the boy wouldn't talk. Did he not like her aswell? Had the tales of her failure spread to the surrounding villages too? Nevertheless, he still followed and protected her every step she took.
    0:50
With everyday the self hatred for herself and her failures only grew stronger. The Goddess wasn't taking her prayers and only Goddess knew Link's true thoughts towards all of this mess. It was stressful to say the least. The good news was that with every passing day new information about the buried guardians and divine beasts were quite literally being dug up from the ground. The Yiga Clan was a growing problem, trying to take parts from the excavations for their own. So many things to worry about.
    0:55
Speak of the Yiga, and they shall show. Trapped, she wished she hadn't been so hateful towards Link as of recently. It was only a reflection of what she truly thought of herself and the poor knight didn't deserve it. She didn't know how this hero came to be, she was just a mere bystander watching him climb to the top like any other Hylian. Thank the Goddess he never failed to protect her, as for he defeated the Yiga that threatened her in at least 3 swings of that sword on his back.
    1:09
Oh, everything hit her at once. That courage every Hylian spoke of was standing right in front of her very own eyes, and she fell. She fell hard. The energy had shifted, and while it hadn't been her powers, she definitely felt a different feeling than before. She often found herself trying to get out of the castle more so she could spend more time with Link away from her father's watchful eyes. Every moment spent together was now cherished in her memory, almost with a sort of pinkish fuzz to it. Thats all the princess could articulate to describe the feeling as. What a wonderful feeling it was. Every moment that wasn't spent with Link, was dedicated to praying to the Goddess to finally wake up her power. With every day inching closer and closer to her birthday, she could only hope that the power would wake from within her once she was able to visit the spring of wisdom.
    1:28
Her efforts at the spring of wisdom went relatively ignored by the Goddess. The champions did what they could to comfort the princess but the moment was ruined when the return of Ganon swept across Hyrule. So quickly did he infect the guardians and divine beasts with malice, Link being the only help they had left. So quickly did it all come crashing down on them. Goddess, why couldn't she be of any help? Her father died, her friends died, Hylians are dying, soon her dearest Link would be next.. There it was. The power came to her the moment when Link was in danger. Cursed, Goddess. She was barely even able to save him.
    1:35
With Link taken to the Shrine of Resurrection, she must face Calamity Ganon alone.
    1:38
After a century, Link awakes. The light of Goddess Hylia still being used by Zelda, almost like a vessel, to contain and restrict the Calamity from causing any more damage than what has already been done. Link, just like he had over a century ago, fought so bravely, blindly even. He trusted Zelda's voice, even if he couldn't remember it. The trials he faced, the memories from a past he doesn't remember slowly filling in the holes created by the legends he had heard, slowly he fell back in love with that princess he once knew a lifetime ago. That light that protects Hyrule just shining in the background of his new forthcoming. Now, he had to save her.
    1:58
Getting the master sword, saving the divine beasts, and slowly recollecting himself and the power of his own courage, there was no time that would be better than now than to face Calamity Ganon.
    2:13
Facing the beast of malice that once put him to rest 100 years ago was no easy task. Arguably stronger and more ready than before, he put in his all to save Hyrule, and more importantly, his princess. The malice disappeared from the castle, from the sky, and Zelda stood finally before him. While nothing would ever be the same as it used to, at least they had each other.
    End

I keep listening to this composition.
I actually turn off the visuals now because even though they're so fun to look at they distract from the music it self.
I love how you give the melody and take it away in new ways.
We're so familiar with this melody and it's already such a mystical sounding melody when you add intrigue to it but giving us twists and turns against those strong expectations it just blows me away.
The only suggestion I'd make is to actually repeat the traditional melody an entire time after that intro sequence. I understand that the way you have it in this video is great for those who are already so familiar with the melody as it starts us off on unsure footing right off the bat, but giving the full melody just that one time will refresh our ears and just make our expectations to hear it repeat even stronger (I do know that you have connected the chordal form of the melody to the more traditional arpeggio type form of it, but it still sounds like an intro sequence that just happens to connect melodically to the traditional style. It will do so even more so for those who aren't familiar with the full melody. Though the length of my sentence would seem to suggest otherwise this is an extremely minor preference and you're free to completely ignore it of course.
This is just wonderful, I can't wait to hear what you do with other music.

Me before watching: Yes. I love this song, it's so beautiful. I should learn to play this.
Ten seconds in: ok, this is perhaps challenging, but I think I could handle this
30 seconds in: has "forgotten" to pay attention to the notes and is just listening to the song
2 minutes in: finally accept that I will never be able to play this

The *slight* mistake you made was in the chord progression at 1:32, but it isn't very noticeable. I only mentioned it because you asked in the description. Incredible arrangement and AWESOME execution. You've made something very beautiful, and it's an honor to listen to it.
