Nothing wrong with expecting cyclists to abide by laws like one way systems, red lights, pedestrian crossings etc.
Dunno really why its even party political.
It isnt a political issue at all. Most people that dont like cyclists are drivers because they see how badly so many cyclists behave on the roads. A far bigger percentage of cyclists break laws than drivers.
Im all for cyclists. But Id like people to stop dressing in dark clothes and cycling on the roads at night with no lights.
@davidkelly499 the standard of driving is abysmal. I see 10 plus drivers a day on their phones, whilst driving a 1 tonne plus killing machine.
Then you have all the bad driving. Trust me more drivers break the laws than cyclists.
@@davidkelly499 As a Police Officer, and formerly a driving assessor for a living, I can assure you the opposite is true. The overwhelming majority of cyclists actually tend to behave, and you’ll get the odd one that breaks the law. Every motorist breaks several driving rules and/or laws everyday.
@@theregolfer9721 Do cyclists ever get nabbed though?
@@theregolfer9721 We always remember the one who does wrong, rather than the ten who do right

Cycling need a rego.
As a cyclist for my whole life (I currently live in New York but I keep a bike in London bc I often work in London) I will say this: If I'm on foot I'm incredibly annoyed by motorists AND cyclists, if I'm in a car I'm incredibly annoyed by pedestrians AND cyclists and if I'm on a bike I think of motorists and pedestrians as plebs. It's a problem mostly of subjectivity - (as well as civil planning and perhaps corporate interests who only want people in cars) but it's mostly the fact that as human beings we find it VERY hard to put ourselves in the shoes of any one else.
Most of us don't find it hard to do that
Every motorist is a pedestrian, but not every pedestrian is a motorist
Just this morning out on my BMX within 10 minutes I witnessed two motorists driving well in excess of the 30 mph speed limit, three using mobile phones,2 Red light jumpers. And if you want to cross the road using a Zebra crossing, it's like playing the lottery but with a bigger chance of losing. Now our government would like to blame young drivers for most accidents and poor driving, but from a pedestrian, cyclist and public transport user I've found it's equal amongst all ages and gender. Cyclists, some as with motorists, are equally as bad road users only they're far more obvious and blatant. The only difference is poor, careless or reckless driving can and does result in serious and fatal injuries. There is no answer to bad road users,no preventative measure can stop people who do not care.
Thank you, James and team 💞

The Tabors, owners of Global, have quite an interesting offshore tax setup, wouldn’t you agree James?
I think the answer is the opposite of privatisation ...

Sorry James..just because the guy from Chester has Scottish ancestry or because 'he thinks he can ridicule arguement by saying Scotland is like a county like Cheshire... The act of union needs looking at ..it' s voluntary union so Scotland should be able to choose to leave . Since 2014 brexit happened and EU membership was used by unionist at the time as a reason to stay in UK. Many Russians might think Ukraine is part of the Russian sphere and shouldn't be allowed to break away or even join the EU
The only thing I could think why Rhishi attacked the Scottish National is to make more Scots vote SNP and not Labour.

Hope you will be doing a phone in on the behaviour of settlers in palestine stoppigng aid trucks.
In 2018 Israeli soldiers shot over 6,000 Palestinians. In many cases they were shot with illegal expanding ammunition. So, did the present iteration of this problem begin on 7th October 2023 (1,200 casualties) or March/Dec 2018 (6,000 casualties) Discus ??
@@brianferguson7840 - I agree the root problem is illegal settlement and is never talked about as such. I dont like Hamas tactics of terrorism but Isreals occupation is just another level. No one seems to want to talk about that. And the current settler violence on aid trucks is such an appalling inhumane act. The narrative of the shows including James ignores the core fact. It is not just Netenyhu-remember he was democratically elected by people of Isreal who by and large continue to support the war as I understand it. Again a fact that press wants to skim over as it is uncomfortable when a friend is a bad actor. Such a sad state of affairs and forbthe world to watch and be powerless. Makes you understand how thr palestinians feel.

Cyclists present less risk to those around them than cars do. As a pedestrian, I've had close calls with cyclists using pavements not intended for shared use. One, if I'd stepped forward a second or so earlier, would have hit me at easily 30mph, and aside from the damage to me would likely have ended up flying into traffic, also moving at 30mph. This is by far the worst I've seen wth a cyclist, and nothing else comes close.
With drivers, however, I've been run over twice on pavements this year, once by a van and once by a car. The driver of the car waited for me to go past, then immediately ran me over. He claimed he never saw me, while his passenger told me I was hit because I'm disabled. The van swerved from the far side of the road, mounted the kerb and knocked my crutch from under me, then claimed he was nowhere near me despite me showing him the paint from his van on my crutch. The van luckily didn't do serious damage, but the car put me in hospital.
I'm all for expecting cyclists to follow the law, but they're not the worst offenders. Not even close.
Too many British cities are anti-pedestrian. Every junction without a pedestrian phase shows that the local council chose traffic flow over pedestrian safety. And those safety barriers on pavements: there to stop us crossing where they don’t want you. Cycling activist groups actually tend to push hard for these facilities too -and against mixed use pavements
I hate the tories, but tbf certain cyclists can be very anti-social - riding on pavements instead of the road, blocking footpaths and bridges by attaching their bikes along them, and riding through red lights at pedestrian crossings. I don't think regulation is the answer, however, just a little consideration for fellow human beings, especially those already with mobility difficulties. Admittedly, a lot of the problems could be dealt with by better provision of cycle paths and bike parking.
Coronel in chief?! 🤡 those Murdoch and Rothermere papers seem to write specifically with an audience in mind: Charles and William💀
People don't like cyclists because they are obstructions.
I'm too scared to cycle in England. Roads are in disarray, roads same width when they were surfaced 100yrs ago, inconsiderate drivers, and lack of bicycle infrastructure. Drawing bike lanes on existing roads just narrows the already limited road width.
The infrastructure we want (Berlin), will never be built here. Everyone objects to any sorts of infrastructure in England. Everything is "too expensive" or "impacts environment negatively".
Notjustbikes has entered the chat
@@user-op8fg3ny3j Poor planning and apathetic attitude towards infrastructure puts cyclists and pedestrians at an unnecessary risk. You got to have eagle eyes driving in England. You have people, cyclists, farm equipment, intentional speed obstacles, HGVs, "lil d energy" drivers, and people entitled to accessible/wheelchair access… all share the same narrow curvy dilapidated road.
The Tories going after their enemies again
Unfortunately a small proportion of cyclists think they have a persoanl mandate to ignore the law, traffic lights, allowed to ride on pavements and expect pedestrians to get out of their way.
As ever a small proportion set thetone for all cyclists.
Small proportion! Nearly every cyclist I come across. I live in a city where there are many bicycles. Mostly riding on footways aggressively. Especially the high powered e-bikes mainly used by food delivery riders.

Van drivers? Not everyone is dumb enough to bring back a tonne of shopping on foot, maybe they should try it... Not easy ...
James don't worry about extraordinary, things are not 'ordinary' they are 'hypernormal.' When ya see Reece Mogg on a Penny Farthing or a Boneshaker that would be ordinary...
Shoplifting will become a feasibly punishable crime when less people are so poor they have to shoplift. None of this will change until the rich are taxed and their wealth is redistributed.
if you break the law when cycling or driving you should be punished. what is the problem with that.
You cannot compare a 25kg bicycle traveling at 15mph with a several tonne motor vehicle traveling at 40mph 🤦

As long as their NDAs are in place I can't see that happening. As long as there's no criminality involved there's nothing to do. I can't see a massive walk-out of employees because of 1 person. It's going to take a lot more.
All devolved governments should be allowed to keep most of the taxes they raise with a few exceptions, all members of Great Britain pay into a British defence fund and other funds for things that are a true shared (Everyone can use equally) responsibility. They get to keep their taxes to make improvements to the countries that they are responsible for and let's see where improves the most. a United Independence of a sort.

I do sometimes wish James would take the obvious answer. Cyclists became maligned because they, in the main, act awfully.
By their dangerous, arrogant and inconsiderate behaviour...that's how.

James a question on the Georgia escalation over the Foreign Agents bill. Wouldn’t you think that all countries would want to and should adopt this policy. Considering the influence of F of I. and AIPEC along with many many other groups

Cyclists should pay road tax. They act if they own the roads anyway.
Then cyclists should get their own infrastructure
I don’t pay road tax, congestion charges or fuel duties on MY 50K electric BMW..and I take up car park spaces and cause motorway congestion. If there’s a group for you to resent -it’s us drivers with a green stripe on our number plates.
@@SteveLoughran Maybe but I doubt you drive 4 abreast on country roads just to annoy motorists.
@@lestrem11 I cycle two abreast to fill up a whole lane when needed. When I drive I enjoy the satisfaction of going at Bristol’s speed limit and seeing how the cars and vans which would try to squeeze past me on a bike getting irritated. When I get to the faster bits I’ll demonstrate how fast a car with dual electric motors can get from 20-60 and stay there. But, unlike most BMW drivers: I don’t consider the fast lane of the motorway to be for my exclusive use. Given the choice on a London to Bristol journey, it’s better to drive at 70 than 80 if the economy boost means “no need to pull over for a 10 minute premium priced battery top up”. Takes a while to get used to
@lestrem I'm a cyclist and I cycle about 8000 miles a year. I also tax, insure and MOT 2 motorbikes, 2 cars, a motorhome and a van, covering considerably fewer miles in those. So your point is what? And if you venture outside the London Bubble - like into rural areas, you'll be surprised to find that cyclists don't break the rules or "own the road".
