They want to coddle the generation that had the benefit of the best economic period our country has ever seen, at the expense of the first ever generation to grow up poorer than their parents in real-terms. And let's not pretend it's got nothing to do with how downright ignorant older generations are of modern problems. Tories don't don't want intelligent voters with critical thinking skills. The question about old or young is interesting, because old people have been the majority of voters for years now, while the young have been so disheartened by the state of the country that many have never bothered to vote before, because in their eyes, what's the point when old people will relentlessly vote in favour of the party or policy that they think will benefit THEM over everyone else

The younger people who voted Thatcher in are now the older people still voting Conservative 40+yrs later......... so that's why they are a valuable target group for them.
Those who voted for Blair, Brown, and even Corbyn and Miliband are now becoming the next generation of older people as the 1980's voters age and expire. So appealing to an older demographic is now not the same. Its the young and their futures on the line - especially as they are then ones who pay into the systems that fund our public services which the Tories have decimated and are now looking to fill the gaps with untrained 18yr old 'volunteers'!

If it was Labour this announcement about pensions would be called a U turn not a tax cut. The entire point of it is to prevent pensioners from paying income tax on the state pension, but that was only a possibility anyway because of policies that the Tories had already announced and legislated for.
It obviously makes sense that somebody whose only income is the state pension shouldn't be paying income tax (that's just the state giving with one hand and taking with the other for no reason), but it's so ridiculous it shouldn't even be a possible part of the conversation.

They have no idea of what younger generations face today...yes they care but they are at different stages of their lives and have no interest/knowledge of the problems we face (and to be honest as retirees they should be enjoying their lives so fair doos so why would they). Small example of their lack of knowledge..."Kids today are always on screens or using technology" YUP and you know what???? My kids school issued IPADS and my kids have to do all their work on them MANDATORY! Just one example of the divide between the generational knowledge and what is going on today. I think what should be brought into question is the voting system of generations. We need a new system.
