      if it was outside in a junkyard, that would be letting it rot, but this was stored in a barn, so it was protected from the elements, however too bad about the mice....

      Sometimes all it takes is getting the car out of the barn, shined up for the owners to have the spark to get it running again ❤ As it was, I am sure they felt overwhelmed and didn't think they could get it cleaned.

    I don't understand why you did not remove the hubcap before you painted the wheel. I assume it is faster popped off than masking it. Or is there an invisible line where detailing ends and restoration begins?

    • @grantkoeller8911
      @grantkoeller8911 2 месяца назад +1

      He is not a mechanic, he is a detailer. the hub caps are disposable and will be replaced.

    • @J0uwMoeder
      @J0uwMoeder 26 дней назад +1

      Because the point is only a temporary cosmetic thing. You can't paint over rust either, if properly restored you have to sand/sandblast that rim and repaint/powdercoat, preferably with the tire removed.
      He just sprayed some paint on for the looks, so the owner (and us) can get a better idea of what the car looks like if he puts some work in it and makes it nice again.

Seriously though, why on gods green earth if a body had ANY inkling about doing something with the car in the future-WHY in the world wouldn't you try to mitigate some of the inevitable mouse damage you know would occur in such a storage condition. Prepare for a long comment. First of all, great video! From '62 through '64 the Dodge 330 was their entry level B-body car. The 440 - like you did - was their mid grade entry. The Polara and Polara 500 [2 door hardtop & convertible only] were the top of the line trims. In 1978, I bought a 1964 Polara 500 hardtop from its original owner. It had a 383 engine, bucket seats and a full length console. A/C, power steering and brakes. It had 67K miles. All original. I owned that car for 16 years. When I sold it, it had 233K miles. I also bought a Dodge 440 sedan in 1984. It was a retired undercover police car [think Blues Brothers]. Had heavy duty EVERYTHING! Still had the rubber floor covering and the loops in the back to secure leg irons with. Also, had a 1964 Dodge 440 station wagon, equipped like the Polara 500. Really enjoyed those cars. Glad to see you start the rescue of one.

  • @michaeltutty1540
    @michaeltutty1540 3 месяца назад +6

    Neat car indeed. The 440 was the middle trim level, between the base 330 and Polara. Polara 500 was limited to 2 door hardtop and convertible. I always loved both the 63 and 64 Dodges and Plymouths. Very sharp designs.

      Michigan.....That should tell you all you need to know. Salty roads, and no one had the sense to wash them thoroughly everytime it got above freezing. Really have to concentrate the hose nozzle along all the trim and the wheelwells. I preserved my mother's 64 Barracuda by doing that. It lived in salty road Maryland from April 64 to April 78. It has lived in Alabama since then, we still have it.

      It is just a rusty four door sedan that had a hard life in the rust belt. It isn't really spectacular. The '440' emblems denotes the mid-range trim level on this Dodge, not the engine. It has a 318 poly, which won't make anybody tingle with excitement. Beater driver (if not rusted to oblivion underneath) or parts car - definitely not worth the expense of restoration, even with family ties.

      Michigan, as is all of the midwest, is in the rust belt, and Chryslers of the 60s and 70s were bad for rust, so it was probably like this when it was parked in 1979

    Awesome job! Reminds of the one from Disney's Cars. Except he was a two-door and I think he was Dart but very close to the Polara.

    Steam cleans best. I use a steamer with collagen based cleaners for leather,. The steam heat breaks down the collagen to produce a capillary effect by floating out the dirt from the pores in the leather skin. Works great. I thought this Dodge would never get clean until I saw the steam flowing, and it came out almost showroom fresh.

    NOOooo... Don't clean it up INSIDE the building ! They shouldn't have brought it INSIDE in the first place. You clean it out and clean it up outside the building FIRST. All those mice & rats have new places to nest in now.

    Hmmm. Methinks I see
    a 318 power spare V-8
    under the hood. While most of these cars ran a slant 6, you could get
    a V-8 raging from a 318
    to a 426 street wedge.
    My neighbor had a 330
    sedan that was a very
    nice car even though it
    was basic. He bought it
    in '78 ad kept it and drove it til he passed away in 2005. Wanted to buy it from him but didn't have enough coins to do it.

    I found this video from an article an autoevolution which identifies the car as a Dodge Dart 440 (3rd generation) I assume you had nothing to do with that but please contact them and tell them they are morons, and probably shouldn't be writing about any cars built before they were 12 years old..
    Autoevolution also claims the car as a big block, apparently mistaking the 440 in the name for an engine call out. This reveals their stupidity in two ways. Not knowing its part of the car name not the engine call out, and not knowing there were no 440 engines in 1963

    Do you have a product and tools list anywhere?
    What spray did you use on the metal trim?
    What is that spray foam cleaner you used all over the interior?

    Not a fan of the front styling Dodge was using then. I preferred Plymouths! I would definitely rather have the IH! Cool video! Hope you are able to evict the Dodge mice from your shop!

    Just my opinion, but those early 1960's Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouths were ugly designs.

    Happy birthday 🎉 Since you bring in cars with rodents, do you have rodent control or a cat to help keep them from getting into your cars? I have to say, that carpet was in very gòod shape after 61 years, and 45 years of rats and mice

    I can't believe you masked off the hubcap. Its not stock anyway, just remove it and paint the whole wheel. It would look better without the hubcap anyway.
