The hood is stock to Challenger RTs. The red "billboard" panels on the rear quarters are found on Plymouth Cudas and not Challengers normally so the paint is custom. The silver tape was probably stick on pin striping or reflective tape that is pealing off. Even though it is not a "Hemi" car it is still savable and valuable because of the year. 440 RT and 6pack cars demand high value and even 383 and 340 Magnum cars of this year are very desirable. They make reproduction parts and panels and this would be a good candidate for restoration.

Clarification on the car not being an R/T, you could not get a 340 R/T challenger in 1970, it came with the A66 performance package which is basically an R/T without the badges and the 2nd digit in the VIN being an S as that specified the R/T line,
since this car is numbers matching, it is a high dollar car regardless, could fetch up to 60k plus depending on some options and if its entered in an auction, it should be put back to factory as they are only original once, its pretty easy to find one that isnt to restomod if that is your thing

Judging by the inside of the door jambs, that was a Plum Crazy originally. If that engine the owner has is the original engine, that would be a heck of a valuable car fully restored. Most desirable year, most desirable color, and numbers matching? Heck of a car.

@72GTX70RTSE It must have been. The inside of the door jambs looked very purple to me. I know the inside of the engine bay was black, and that's often a place that isn't painted when doing a custom job. I did think that was odd, but since the engine was out, I thought maybe they'd done it too. Oh well, the triple black was also a very nice looking car.

The bug in question as other people pointed out is called a silverfish. They are quite a nuisance as they chew through wood and fabrics, which is a bit of an issue as the interior of this car has fabric materials in it, especially the carpet, meaning the silverfish could eat through it, ruining the interior. They are also a menace when it comes to certain household items containing wood or certain fabrics. I've never seen a silverfish in person, but a similar menacing bug that does roughly the same thing is the woodlouse or slater bug.
EDIT: Silverfish are harmless, but they are a bit of a problem

Great video guys! I like that you guys are getting up to speed with the significance of the cars you’re pulling out of the barns! I’m pretty sure this Challenger had the A66 340 performance package which makes it worth restoring. The A66 code will be found on the fender tag. Condition doesn’t look too bad although I would like to see what the frame rails look like. Sure it’s going to need new fenders and floor pans and that stuff is available. The owner says he has the 340 so it’s a complete car. I find it a little strange the car had 72-74 fenders and a 71-74 shifter but all that is easily remedied. The owner should sell the car to someone who has the time and interest to restore the car.

This car needs its original engine rebuilt and put back in, painted back to the silver it should be and sold to somebody that actually will care for the car. The 340 Challenger is by far more desirable for the simple fact that is can be used every day on the street unlike a Hemi car.

Great job on this one! It definitely needs A LOT of TLC. As for products, yes, would love to see what you use and the different types of applications you use them for. I'm particular interested in a great leather cleaner and tire cleaner/brush combo. Looking forward to the next one............👍

Yeah bug is a silverfish, used to be very common in old damp properties over here in the UK, don't seem to see them as much nowadays for some reason.

Wow! That's the same year my family decided to move from Canada to live in Florida.. I was only 3 in 1984 when we made the transition to the states. And, even more interesting about that move was.. My dad still had his 1970's Dodge Charger which was all black with the white vinyl t-top.

Some good comments below about the numbers on this car. Would love to see the whole fender tag to decode this car. Also, the fenders on this car are off a 72-74. It was nice to see the rallye instrument cluster in this car which is what tipped me off that it wasn’t just a 318 2bbl. I hope someone takes the time to restore this car properly. Even though it’s an A66 package and not officially an R/T this is still a super desirable car with one of the most consistent and reliable engines that Chrysler ever offered.

I liked learning about the condition of the car you have vs the ones in the other guys shop. The one you have doesn't even look like it could be used for parts.

Something I've often wondered is why you don't use a leaf blower to remove the heavy surface debris outdoors before even rolling the car into the shop.

Send the car to the cable tv show that only restores Mopsr products to original status.
They are the BEST to restore this hidden gem or put the challenge out there for any shop to bid on creating an episode based restoration

Make good, solid repairs. Trash that headliner, cleaning is a waste of money. Re-cover seats. Do a solid job of rebuilding the original motor and give it some backbone but make it streetable. Then drive that thing and enjoy it!

Ok this is officially a car that should be used for parts. I’m still a muscle car fan. It would cost SO much money to make it right. This was my dream car when I graduated in 1970❤❤❤. I loved that car. He just let today’s value for a an original Challenger value or rest o mod down the toilet. I’m so upset it’s such a loss. OMG😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😢. I had a 2007 Magnum Hemi R/T for a few years and had fun! Wow
