One reason they weren't as popular was because at that point the HP ratings were so bogged down by emission controls that the allure just wasn't there anymore.

@@WDDetailing You needed to be a bit more careful with the steering wheel, there was a stripe pattern on it that you cleaned completely off by accident. You can see it just before you start spraying it, and then the whole centre part of the wheel is a much brighter brown afterwards because the design was erased. I doubled checked other cars, and these stripes are on their steering wheels.

Considering the lazy ρos who owned these cars, and abandoned them, leaving them to decay, that's not likely to happen. If they were going to do full restorations, we would have seen follow up videos of them. When they detailed the 1970 Dodge charger before this, they said they would come back in a couple of months to see it run with an engine restoration. But they never did a follow up. Or the Ferrari 512bb, before that, for example. These owners are just vain; boasting about owning them, but never give a sht about restoring them. It's infuriating.

In the early 70's the shoulder belts were not connected to the lap belts and stored above the door windows for optional use. The 400 4 barrel is a big block engine and is no slouch. It still has enough horsepower to light the tires up.
Yes, that is an original electric factory sunroof (Rare). The cassette tape player on the console (Rare) could record onto a cassette with a microphone that came with the car. You could record a conversation, notes, or a song on the radio, while driving done the road.

I’m older than you guys and really appreciate what you are doing:
Whether it has an engine or not, a fresh wash never hurts, especially if it MOPAR.
Robin Egg Blue and Avocado Green were popular colors in the 70s. The “Power Roof” were upgrades to that package, and it’s pronounced “Bro-m”, rhymes with chrome and the “Young and Restless (not the daytime drama) had the “B” song… “Like bars on a Cadillac Brougham.” My first car was a 1976, Oldsmobile Delta 88, 4dr Brougham (red with vinyl white roof).
Notice how the engine under dash mounted tape deck reads “Monotone” and not stereo.

The M-34 code power sunroof is SUPER RARE! The next rare option is the factory cassette player/recorder! And yes, power windows. This makes for a highly optioned 72! The 400 Magnum is nice and still has the Thermoquad carburater. Car in this shape could sell for $20-30k. Hidaway headlights are standard on the SE trim. WP23 vin. The rear window roof line is unique to the SE as well. I had a sherwood green with a white top 72 SE with a 400 Magnum. The rear tailights on the SE had the chrome covers as part of the package.

Once again, absolutely fantastic job at cleaning up this. In my humble opinion, this car needs to be kept all original. They’re only original once it’s good enough to have fun with just paint the trunk lid to match the rest of the car. And don’t touch the rest it’s not gonna be any more fun after spending countless hours and thousands of dollars making it meant.
This car has all kinds of rare options, and that cassette player was meant for taking dictation as you were driving around. Like some kind of private eye or doctor.
Speaking of, someone with a lot of money bought this car brand new.

In the late 60s and early 1970s, they didn't have 3 point harness.Belts they just had lap belts.
The clips just above the door frame along the headliner are to hold the shoulder strap for the belt. They weren't mandatory as the new cars.Have them you have the option to bring those across and clip them into the lap belt.
The second feature which you had pointed out was actually ACB radio and the plug in was not for a microphone. So to speak, It was considered as a voice transmitter but yes you can say a microphone.
The name you showed on the door card for the SE is the name of the roof package.

"while I'm young..." Ouch, that hurts! My first car was a '74 Charger, same color as this one with white vinyl top, no sunroof, though. 318-V8 and console automatic with buckets, which was cool. I love the lines on these third gen Chargers, and like the second gen ones as well. Not sure why so much difference in popularity, I do find the styling more aggressive on the second gen, and the gas filler cap is very cool. Could at least partly be because of the detuned '70s engines, at least after '71 (last year of the hemi, too). My last Charger was a '71 R/T with 440 Magnum and 4-speed, definitely got up and went. Thanks for cleaning this one up!

Guys; You get to pick the cars; we get to enjoy all of them. Take the other one too, the engine isn't gettting washed/waxed (yet) :)The baby blue is beautiful. Restore don't 'upgrade' please. I pray that olive boot lid goes aback to baby blue though. That microphone jack probably was there so you could speak to someone outside via a speaker under the hood or in the grill area. Grandpa had one; thought is was 'nifty as heck' and it played little tunes too! Brougham was a type of high end decor package item/addon. It impressed the ladies! And it cost a bunch but whoever bought that car wasn't afraid to spend tons of money was he!
Happy Birthday Brent and thanks for the gift back to all of us. Have a wonderful day too. PETS: You 3 guys just take turns being the pet; feed yourself, clean up after yourself, take yourself home etc. The pet for the week should get a special favored status like not having to do the running out to get lunch irrespective of who pays. Work it out, You can pet your pet but off camera and away from open doors and windows etc. Be cool. :). saves $$ too.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Brent, from Alex in Canada!!!! My answer is yes, do the Challenger, hopefully a collector or some who knows how to do proper resto-mods will buy it. Maybe the owner will actually fix it. I can't wait.

Yes do the challenger. And since there’s no engine you can really deep clean the engine compartment.
Brougham is an interior package. Pillow top seats, power window. More luxurious interior.
The microphone was probably for a cb radio.
The clips above the window are for seatbelts.

Absolutely clean the Challenger! Nows the best time to clean the engine compartment. Those clips in the headliner are to store the shoulder belts.

My favorite style. I grew up around 68-70s as a little kid but I preferred this style with the hidden headlights. I had a 1973 SE with the baby blue and white top too. Fun fact, you can store your anti-freeze and oil in the space between the bumper and radiator.

Great video guys. Can't wait to see the Challenger video. I actually like the 71-72 Charger body style just not as much as the 68-70. I agree you can make this into a cool car since it has so many options and it's a big block!

More cleanups. :) Dont care if it will run or not, just love watching you detail. As for the color choice. Red... It goes faster LOL
Mental issues, i totally feel for you man. I suffered a nervous breakdown at the end of last year after years of extreme stress at work, my dad went for very healthy to can barely walk and doesn't communicate all within a few years and bottling up my feelings was the icing on the cake. At one point besides the suicidal thoughts and depression/anxiety i also had pre-diabetes, pre-hypertension, was getting brain-zaps every few hours, extreme fatigue all at the same time.
Thankfully my now new bosses could see the writing on the wall and forced me to take a few months off of work to get my life back. I was talking to a therapist, medicated, I now don't bottle up my feelings and things turned around for the most part. Then my dad took a further downturn in health, now he has dimentia and is just a shell. All those bad thoughts and issues have come back again.
I will say as you said tho, talk to anyone who will listen, people do care and know that you are important to others. My wife/family/bosses/friends are soooo supportive and depends on me as i do them, especially my wife who is my world. I have alot of people looking out for me and i now have new grandkids to love aswell.

Brougham pronounced Brōhm, is the pinnacle of interiors in many cars. The Clark Bar was my personal favorite peanut butter candy bar as a kid. I am well before your time at 64 now.

Love the color combo on this charger! Since I graduated High School in 1973. I'm pretty familiar with this model year Dodge! The clips on the ceiling above the door openings were there to hold the shoulder belts which you folded in half and were held in place by those clips! The BROUGHAM on the door cards is pronounced B R O M E! It was a swanky edition or top of the line luxury edition of that car!!!

I had a 1971 Dodge Charger SE. I was pumpkin yellow, bench bucket seats, 318 super fast, but would absolutely lose all traction on any wet surface (no weight in the back). AC was like a meat locker. I still dream about that car. My sister got into an accident with it, and that was it.
