Whoosh! Seems a lot of this goes over peoples heads cause it is a bit technical since they are showcasing what they have programmed cryengine/lumberyard to do over the past 10 years.
I'll do my best to explain if anyone cares...
Squadron 42: is the single player narrative adventure that has been in development alongside StarCitizen since it's inception Originally planned to be developed first but then SC became the perfect test bed for the feature development so they began developing them in parallel early on. For the last couple years most of the devs have been focused on SQ42 so SC development has dragged more than usual. With SQ42 being feature complete now(ruclips.net/video/IDtjzLzs7V8/видео.html), we are already seeing the speed of development pick up as they port features to SC.
64-bit large world coordinates: most engines run on 32-bit and as such their world size is limited to approximately 8km squared i think (out side of that the engine have trouble calculating and you'd get weird results if the player went beyond those boundaries) with 64-bit it goes into over a billion kilometers squared i think? ergo you get a large world space and a lack of needing to load separate maps and that is key to how they get the seamless transitions plus clever streaming of the assets in game.
Why it's taken so long: Yes they've been building the foundations of the engine all this time while working on all other aspects of the game(it already has a ton of story and lore) but recently they just completed the features in SQ42 and their last foundational Tech Pillar (Server Meshing) so we are seeing an acceleration in development now. Note other games like NoMan's Sky or Elite Dangerous for example focused on releasing a limited game and tried to developed on top of that. I'd say it worked in NMS's favor but that approach killed Elite for most gamers. This foundational approach has led to a lot of misinformation and bad press for SC but ultimately i'd say it's proving to be worth it.
Levels of detail: or LOD is not graphical settings though it does help with those options being available. it is the different textures and shaders that are loaded for the assets at different distances because it's a waste to render the whole asset when it's too far away to notice the close up levels of detail, that is part of how they cleverly stream in and out all these assets so you don't require a super computer to render it all.
Streaming: is the means by which they load content in and out of the game for the client and server. for the client(your pc) this is mostly just how it chooses what to render in based on which object containers you are in or can see, for the server it's more about loading and unloading those object containers and the assets contained within. OCS or object container streaming in it's self is impressive tech, it allows anything from a box to a planetary system to be an object container with it's own properties and have object containers nested within, without it there would be no seamless experience cause there are just too many objects and assets for a server or client to load in such a large world space.
Note: the train wait isn't long and most players save their spawn outside a planet to avoid the transit if they hate it.
AI Crew: it is intended to have complex NPCs you can hire eventually but that feature isn't in the game yet and probably won't be for some time. though they have made some great progress with the AI in SQ42 so maybe we will get some placeholder feature like it in the near future, but i wouldn't hold my breath.
Procedural generation: in SC is just a tool the devs use to design a curated experience on a massive scale, you don't need to worry about NMS or Starfield levels of procedural generation. They have a lot of lore they intend to follow in the design of this game so leaving the content in the hands of procedural tools is not an option to craft the universe they intend.
Mining: in SC gameplay loops are intended to be very tactile and immersive experiences, we already have mining gameplay mostly complete in the live version I recommend you look at some youtube tutorials of the feature to see what it's like or you can tryout the game during the free-fly event this month where you can try the game without spending a dime.

    • @ctzn3lack
      @ctzn3lack 8 месяцев назад +35

Ground fog and sunlight shafts: are underrated features imo, it creates a level of depth and immersion to the landscape that is often overlooked in videogames, most games use fog to hide their graphical limitation not enhance them. at most you need a GTX 1660 GPU but the current game isn't optimized yet and runs the CPU hard. at bare minimum you need Intel: Sandy Bridge or later, AMD: Bulldozer or later and 16gb of ram but i'd recommend a CPU with good vCache like the ryzen X3Ds to get decent frame rates before the game is optimized. ruclips.net/video/H9zUwbXApbE/видео.html
However, server performance can limit your frames so i wouldn't buy anything new until they release SQ42 or completely integrate server meshing to the live game.
Rivers driving terrain modification: they programed their river generation to flow realistically based on the terrain heights and adjust the asset generation in the biome around the river to have more foliage and river rocks or carve out cliffs around it if ran through a hill for example.
Clouds: I think that came in at the end of last year and they just improved it a lot for SQ42 so we should be getting those improvements this year in the live game.
FTL: is called Quantum Travel(QT) in SC and it is not faster than light but actually between 18%-94% of the speed of light depending on the ship drive. It is real time travel not a clever loading screen, sure they stream in and out assets while you are on the move but with the large world space and object container streaming they don't need to fake the warp travel like most games. the visual effects in this demo are new and should make it to the live game this year along with manual QT you don't have to have a navigation marker for so we can freely explore the vast solar systems.
Realtime planetary rotation is just the tip of the ice berg, they intend to have the whole solar system orbit in realtime around the solar body but that isn't in engine yet due to server limitations and i'm sure some gameplay design that needs to get fleshed out first but ideally server meshing will overcome that technical limitation.
Sound Design: shout out to Pedro Camacho who's responsible for a lot of the music in SC and the FYI devs behind the audio work are adding realistig audio in vacuum because in lore the ships simulate audio outside the ship so you could choose to turn that off or have that part of the ship damaged in the future and the audio will change to be more like how it would sound in a vacuum where the only noise is what your ship makes or what hits your ship etc.
What the hell is that: this is a jump point, in lore they are naturally occuring singularities that basically create wormholes between solar systems that you can navigate through. it's the only clever loading screen SC employs to stream out the old solar system(Stanton) while you travel and stream in the new solar system(Pyro). we've been waiting for server meshing to enable this before we get the Pyro system in the live game which is currently only available on a seperate preview server. Basically it is a dangerous system with solar flares and abandoned infrastructure that is overun by outlaws, think null sec space in Eveonline.
You are correct, SC is a MMORPG and SQ42 is the singleplayer narative driven campain, the space stations streaming on demand goes back to that object container streaming i discussed before.
Skinshaders: they are just showing off that their skin textures aren't prebaked but driven by values represenative of the melanin levels in real life skin not that impressive but a recent addition to the engine so they were showing it off. up until recently i believe the skin on a player's body didn't really match the faces they generated in the charater creation screen so there was basically a seam along the character's neckline where the skintones didn't match.
Are there meaning full quests: SC doesn't have the final version of dynamic procedural missions generation yet but there is already a lot of mission content, events like seige of orrison, xeno threat, and jumptown, and they even have more narative driven stuff that has been on development hold while they completed SQ42 and server meshing. The final intention is for the crazy complex economy, NPC actions, and player actions to drive the mission generation to have a truely unique experience and not just fetch quests and copy pasted missions.
2050: LOL, I fully expect SC to keep updating for decades but i think we're going to see development speed up here in the next few years now that core tech has been completed and it maybe in a more mainstream consumable state sooner than you think.
The yellow stuff on the planet is supposed to be a moss i believe.
The heiarichal streaming goes back to object containers and how they can be neseted within eachother, i.e. The planet to biomes to outposts to the individual loot boxes, ships, and vehicles.
The last few features such as water physics, procedural destructions, cloth, blood sweat/tears are brand new and won't be in the live game till sometime this year. If you want to see more i definately recommend you watch the SQ42 trailer.

No, it is also generated procedurally by the server and client with manual changes. Generating procedurally only once and then saving would mean several petabytes of data. MS Flight Simulator 2020 accesses a 2 petabyte database for only 1 planet, which is not even enough, so that individual trees still have to be generated procedurally. Planets are to be scaled 1 to 6 in SC, which means that a planet has 36 times less surface area than the Earth in FS 2020. With 300 planned planets, that would be over 10 petabytes. That is why this is also generated procedurally on the server and client. With the same initial data, the same results come out again and again; contrary to popular belief, procedural is no coincidence!

Streaming means they dynamically stream objects from your SSD in the game as needed. Other games just load the complete level into the game, but because Star Citizen object streaming is dynamic, they make the levels as big as they want as they can also stream objects out of the game that you can't see anymore and freeing up your ram.

At 5:15 yes, the plan is to have AI crew. The AI crew is already working fully in Squadron 42 (the single-player), but the AI in Star Citizen (the MMO) is janky and terrible due to poor server performance, hence the importance of server meshing. While AI crew behaviours have been completed, we won't see them appear in Star Citizen until server meshing is fully working, which is coming Soon(TM).

@@KeroValentine Before you get too hyped to get into the project, you should know that while Im sure both SC and S42 will EVENTUALLY get released, do NOT overspend on the project because S42 might still be well 2+ years off (and for the past 8 years both it and SC have been "around 2 years off") and CIG's track record for timelines and estimates is abysmal. And while they have the assets shown in many of their videos, the current game engine does not have the network infrastructure to give you the full experience that they are showing off.
In this "4.0" video for instance, we do not have destructible environments, nor onboard fire propagation, the fancy water physics, nor the second star system Pyro in the game yet. And we will likely not have it for some time. Chris said "everything you've seen here will be in your hands within 2 years", but again, take ANY time estimates from him with a massive grain of salt.
And in contrast to what amateratsu said, do not get too hyped over server meshing yet. What we saw at citcon was a tiny ingame tech demo between like 6 clients of how they're intending to make SM work, along with the verbal "confirmation" that it works "at scale". But if it would actually work at scale, like the thousands of players scale that this project needs, that is what they would have shown us. Only believe that it works, when it's actually in your hands.
Backers get too hyped up over anything because they're starved for content so for your own/your wallets sake be very careful with which part of that train you hop on to.

Concerning the Quests in Star Citizen: Yes this is the MMO part. And there are the typical "fetch"-Quests (deliver 3 packages to different locations, kill pirates in this area etc), BUT there are more story driven quests too like P.I. Wanted where you have to investigate an accident on a space station and why everybody died there. Depending on how much of the clues you find you get a different picture of what happened and can report back different findings with different outcomes. Or you have other Quests where you have to visit an NPC like Miles Eckhart or Tecia Pacheco who will give you more complex and stroy driven quests which go much above the typical fetch-quest.

    • @KeroValentine

    • @AuraMaster_7
      @AuraMaster_7 8 месяцев назад +4

Plus, a large portion of gameplay is occupation-centered, rather than being traditional MMO story style quests.
So, you have quest-less occupations like mining, salvage, and cargo hauling/trading. Mercenary occupations like FPS bunker missions, bounty hunting (both player and NPC), and standard combat quests like going to a mining claim to clear out pirates. These types of quests/occupations can be legal or illegal, by the way. And finally you have beacon-based quest gameplay like medical and rescue missions, where stranded or injured players will pay for a rescue beacon that gets send out, and rescuers will get paid to complete the contract.
On top of that, there are events that happen occasionally that aim to bring an entire server into contact, whether that's in cooperation or conflict. Like Xenothreat, where the server needs to come together to salvage important cargo from wrecked spaceships and bring it back to a Navy carrier, while defending from pirates, then follow the Navy carrier out to engage the main enemy fleet. Or Jumptown, where a remote drug facility is brought online, and the entire server fights for control of the lucrative operation.

And the great thing is since Star Citizen is so heavy on the simulation side of things that even those basic "fetch quests" are actually quite enjoyable. The immersion of flying your ship in to a stormy outpost, fighting the winds to get landed safely on the pad, picking up the package, flying off to another planet, landing on a pad on top of a huge skyscraper on the acropolis (city planet) of ArcCorp during sunset dropping your package off and watching the city lights come up as the sun sets beneath the cloud layer. It's seriously incredible and it was just a simple fetch quest. If you enjoy immersive sim type games nothing really comes close right now. And it'll be even better when we actually start getting more content and progression systems.

    Meaningful stuff.
    Hi me again.
Just adding stuff as I’m watching. But yea theirs a whole load of things to do. Both mission based and systemic.
Their are normal (Lawful) and personal (illegal) missions that change depending on your location. The types of missions so far are like box deliveries for new starters, mercenary missions, bounty hunting missions (PvE and PvP), salvaging, investing, clean up jobs (illegal jobs) bunker missions assaults and defend (FPS style but some use of ships) and theirs also several types of events that gets the whole server involved.
The systemic element I mentioned earlier is the number of things you can do on you own or in groups without missions. For things like cargo hauling, mining (nothing like star field and has a good gameplay behind it) salvaging, piracy (PvP)🏴‍☠️ and even a little bit of exploration. All of which can earn you good creds.

I was surprised I got 120 hrs into SF because it was so grindy. The MMO this engine demo toured (SC) doesn't have classes or levels so time, money, and reputation is how progression pace and content access will be managed. Your gear and ship choice influence what you can potentially do but is mostly raw player skill via manual tasks. Get bored shooting stuff and want to try some quiet mining or salvaging? Grab the tools and rent/buy the right ship for the job in game and off you go. How well you do is determined by the effort you want to put in and learn the nuances of the systems and gear combos to maximize the returns. Want to take a couple space tanks with friends inside parked on the magnetic landing pad of you space mega yacht and fight other ships like it's a ww2 space battleship? Then drive them off the side of the deck and air drop them onto a planet to try to fly a tank like in the A-Team movie? You can just go do that if you want for some silly fun. There is also space racing as an occupation and some player leagues/events popping up like XGR or the annual Daymar Rally across a desert moon in land vehicles.
The single player game in this story (SQ42) universe is looking promising depending on how well it polishes out. I want those new HUDs and map UIs for SC and they are coming in over the next year it seems.

This November 17th will be the IAE (Intergalactic Aerospace Expo). It's basically an in-game event where all the ships are in an expo hall in a given city that you can visit. During this event (it should last about a week, or is it 2... can't remember), you can play the game absolutely free. Only need to create an account. During this period, the game will give you some ships for you to fly for free. BUT, you can just go to the expo and rent (almost) any of the ships there for free for 24 hours (or 48, can't remember).
You can try the game this way with no cost, and actually see what the current build of the Star Engine has (it still doesn't have a few of the things showcased, but what it has... it's impressive).

A lot of the magical graphical stuff will have gameplay to go along with it. For instance, the fire actually spreads and propagates, and when it is finished it will be the beginning of firefighting for people on ships or at locations. You will have to decide if you need to vent atmosphere or put it out with extinguishers. If you don't your ship will be destroyed. You will need to have skill to stop the fire from spreading. A lot of the stuff is still being built such as engineering gameplay and repair, but there is a lot in the game now. Such as missions, cargo hauling, deliveries, PVP, Bounty Hunting, Mining, Salvage, exploration and Towing. But a lot of the really good stuff is still being developed. They are attempting to build an immersive and living world, so the types of things they want to do are to be simulated real life type careers. There will be story-based missions as well but most of it will be in your ability to try things and have fun. You won't be limited to what you can do. If you can think of it, you can do it. Streaming is basically what is replaced loading screens. Think of it like the old clipplane, As you move closer to a destination things load in as you move further away from that location things load out. As for servers there are multiple servers I don't know the exact amount that they've dedicated for the alpha test bed but it stands to reason there will be hundreds of them. Each of them dedicated to a specific area of the game including individual interiors of spacecraft. Object container streaming is the thing that they have been working for the last 5 years to get right what this does is it allows you to stream your interactions from one server to the other when you fire a bullet across space that bullet will travel across several servers before it hits your opponent who might be playing in a separate server. But all the servers are linked together again the streaming is you transisting between all of those servers in real-time loading in and out what your computer needs to render the world around you.

It's more like EVE-Online where there's only one shard and the "multiple servers" are just localized computers that stream the data in.
It's the intention of CIG for there to be only one "shard" and no matter where you connect from you'll be in the same universe.

    • @jkleylein
      @jkleylein 8 месяцев назад

I think you're confusing server meshing with object container streaming. Object containers are local parts of the map which range from the entire solar system to the stuff in your pocket and everything in between. It's kind of like a menu system where each container is a file which is part of the heading above, and the farther down you go the more local the objects you are dealing with. Distant objects can be deleted from memory because they are too far to see or interact with.
Sever meshing allows you to have a large number of servers running the same area in concert without you noticing when you change servers as you move about. That primarily allows more players to be part of the same location at once. Dynamic server meshing will allow the servers to increase or decrease the size of the areas they are in control of on the fly.

It's an MMO and they have just succeeded at creating the first dynamic server meshing tech ever. It is working on a small scale, they demoed it live at the convention, now they just have to scale it up.
But you are wrong, you will be able to do everything. We don't get classes, in fact right now there are 0 restrictions at all, but later on there will be a dynamic skill system where your character gets better at certain activities the more you do them, such as handling g-forces, sprinting, lifting heavy things or aiming, but without skill points, simply by repetition like IRL.

the main difference between SC and SF is that SC allows the players to experience full immersion, instead of loading screens, in SC you can actually go in and out of atmosphere with your ship seamlessly from space to planets/moon and vice versa, in SF you only have cutscenes of your ship taking off and landing. Most of what's shown here, you can already experience it in the current version of SC which is still at alpha stage.

@@KeroValentine you should try even when the ships is on fast travel ( in sc they call it quantum travel), its really not a loading screen because while you are in QT mode, you can get off from your seat, and just walk around inside your ship, sit somewhere, lying on your bed if you are in much bigger ships. YOu can even swap the camera angle to outside so you could see how your ship fast travel, and you can pan the camera pretty much all around if you wanna see your ship, from front, back, top or bottom. If its loading screen you only see a static screen with loading screen bar or text and you cant do anything and just need to wait, in SC you didnt have to do it.
The only loading screen you will have is when you start the game from clicking the game launcher and another loading when you are in the game menu to take you into the game, after that its pretty much seamless and no loading screen at all, you can travel far or short distance within the verse freely. I play both SC and SF, and I cant fully immersed myself in SF the way I did in SC. the planet is also fully explorable, like you can land anywhere if you want to, and then go by ground vehicle or by foot, or even fly your ship low if you really want to rotate the full circumference of the planet,, but I wouldnt advise that as its gonna take a while , especially on foot , it will take very long also in SC, there's thirst and hunger gauge, so overtime you will deplete this and you need to eat or drink, it also depends on the weather some planets are very harsh like freezing cold or scorching hot, so if your space suit is not suitable, you wont survive long enough and usually they will give you warning of how long you can stay outside and it ranging from minutes to like hours.

To answer some of your main questions, there are "quests" but the game is more of a sandbox. Think GTA Online, where there are missions to complete for various tasks to gain currency which can be done by mining, cargo transport, responding to player or NPC distress signals (A player can broadcast a distress signal which turns into a mission for other players to rescue them from deep space if their ship is dead), missions to check crash sights on planets or board a downed ship and learn it's fate on ground or in space (this game is also an FPS, and you will encounter AI/Players that you will have to shoot COD style) but generally the fun is up to you, but unlike GTA, instead of a city, it's a solar system (currently). In terms of sound design, the sounds are physics based, so while the camera is flying around there won't be a lot you can hear (except for when the camera goes into warp), unless the camera gets really close. They've muted a lot of it though since they're trying to show off everything. But sound in the game is top notch. There's not much lore per say, but Squadron 42 will take care of that, with the persistent universe being the "aftermath" of the single player game.
Long story short, what ever it is you think you should be able to do in or out of a spaceship, there's a good chance you're able to do it in Star Citizen. In terms of the pricing of the ships and a lot of the monetary controversy, of course if you have thousands of dollars you can just go buy every ship, but all ships are available for purchase in game, along with all land vehicles and racing modded vehicles and ships (there is also ground, air, and space racing, all of which are affected by the physics of the planet, bird or jet shaped ships will do far better in the air for example, but in space other ships have the advantage). They also have a system in place that allows you to slowly upgrade your ships instead. Say you pay initially to play and get a starter pack with a ship etc for $40, if you see a ship on the website worth say $80, you can choose to remove your current ship for the $80 one, then pay the $40 difference instead of paying the full $80. This is what a lot of people opt in to doing instead, and using that ship to play the game and earn currency in game to buy other ships for their hangar.
There are also various third party set ups including subreddits where people buy and sell ships and you can find some really good deals there or just straight swaps. The market is player driven so it'll be up to you if you want to spend your money or just have fun in game with your mates until you can all pool your in game cash to buy that bigger ship you were looking for.
As I said, the game is a sandbox and there's so much you can do, don't feel obliged to pay real money past the first entry point to play, even the cheapest ship in the game can still do the easiest bounty hunting missions for some quick and fun cash. It's entirely up to you how you want to play. Even the biggest of wallet warriors can't see you EVA out of your ship and fly over to his to board it and kill them lol.
The only thing to worry about is that it's very much like Escape from Tarkov, if you die, you lose everything you have on you and everything you had in your ship at the time, but after a quick respawn back at your home city, you can gear up again, ping the insurance agency to deliver you your new ship, and after a few minutes waiting for it to arrive, you're back in the cockpit and heading back out.
Currently there's no real narrative, that's Squadron 42's job, but as long as you like exploring and running into people and generally having fun with your friends, you'll have a good time. As long as no one is expecting the game to tell you what to do. It won't hold your hand through anything when you first log in. But the community is very generous and will help you out with anything, and will even send you some loose cash to get you started. It's a cool thing to see so many people just not being toxic lol.

NPC performance is not the strong suit of Star CItizen at this point. Quite often they'll be standing around doing nothing, arms straight out like a plane flying, often standing on chairs. NPC crew is said to be a feature, and they have discussed it a little bit recently. Everything is possible to be changed, especially things said early on in development. It was said that each additional game package on a single account gives an NPC crewman. Eight game packages total would give you seven npc crew members that you don't have to pay. 64-bit large world coordinates means you can have a level span (assuming 1 unit = 1 meter for simplicity, this assumption is not accurate to Star Citizen because they need to be more precise than that for fps gameplay to work) 9,007,199,254,741 km vs a 32-bit coordinate system which can only reach 16,777,215 km using the same metric.

Star Citizen is a sandbox MMORPG that you are watching. It has a lot of lore (history) but you "live" in this galaxy and make your own story. Squadron 42 is the connected first-person game where you follow a storyline and use the same engine (which also has an amazing trailer that came out at the same convention). After the initial $45 for a starter ship and game package, you never need to pay any more money because all items and ships can be bought in-game. I have run this game on an i5 Laptop with 16gb ram, nVidia 1050T, and an SSD. The only real equipment requirement is an SSD. Now I run it on an i7, with 32gb ram, nVidia 3070, and an SSD. I usually get 40fps in the cities and they are still optimizing the game and will use Vulken and server meshing to push the FPS even higher. 90% of the game is already complete and playable now, with the seamless transitions, the ships, the cities, the landscapes,. With the other 10% coming in the next year (physical destruction, player-built cities, crafting, water graphics, etc).

This stuff has never been done before, at least not on this scale and detail. 5:10 - "AI Crew? Or just other players?"
AI Crew is a "someday but not yet" feature.
NPCs have a rudimentary "personality and trait" system already, but so far it's only being employed in PvE targets. The official plan is you'll be able to recruit NPCs, view what their skill specialties and traits are like, assign roles to them however you would determine who is best for each, and even issue equipment for them to use... "SOMEDAY™️". A "tier 0" (extremely basic, low-depth, prototype) implementation doesn't even have a time horizon on it yet. Definitely not within 1 year, probably not within 5 years, possibly within 10 - remember, this is not a product but a PROJECT. Not an event but a process. It will continue to develop and refine *indefinitely* after it's "out", like Minecraft. And technically, YOU CAN PLAY IT RIGHT NOW. RIGHT NOW!
For the mean time however, you can only get players to man your ships with you.

It's a fantastic world, but the maximum number of people on a server is 130. That's why the developers are introducing a new technological innovation called the server meshing. There's a technical video about this from the annual conference a few weeks ago. Now that's a world first!

@@KeroValentineYes. If you’re interested in how it works the have made videos about it but the ultimate goal is to have the entire playerbase play in a single game session, not instanced like how games do it now

@@Wylie288that just isn't true at all. CIG are creating sever meshing that allows you to interact across servers and dynamically on fly cross those server meshes. Things like PS2 can't for instant interact with the server it is attached too. You can't even see into them. With that you also don't have persistence to that.
That is only the first stage of server meshing as well. There is dynamic meshing that will be the stage after (in like 5yrs course) but yeah. There is a reason Devs I know personally are excited to see what CIG can do with their system cause no game has managed that to date and is very much unique.

Lore in this game is mostly just things like 'In this year, humanity made first contact with aliens' or 'this is the year that the war with these aliens started'. It has some more detailed things like information on one of the big gangs in the game, or information on when the first civilian starship was released, but it's mostly all just to set up a timeline rather than actual lore.
Also this wasn't ingame, it was in engine, there is a difference. It means it could potentially be ingame, but this is all scripted and run directly through the engine rather than being recorded ingame.
And to people who argue it was ingame... if they had this stuff ingame in the state we are shown in this video, they would have released it already because what they have shown here is ready to go, particularly the water effects and the destruction. The reason they haven't, is because these systems do not exist in the game. They are only showcasing what the engine is CAPABLE of. This was all shown off in an isolated simulation of the engine. This is not 'playable' is one way to put it.

People bashing too much on the trains. It's a short wait and only if you respawn or logout in one of the main cities. Most people have to use the train maybe once per day ... Which takes 2-3 minutes max.

Star Citizen is not really an MMORPG. The term they use is FPU, first person universe, a sandbox MMO with some RPG elements in it. Emergent gameplay will be the most important thing.
