You guys should look into the concept of “The 12 Week Year!” It’s basically setting goals/resolutions in 3 month increments (12 weeks) instead of a full year. So instead of having a month to work on something, you have a week, and it feels a lot more doable and it stays in your mind/there’s less time to avoid it! I don’t follow it super strictly, but I have started to look at my goals in this way and it’s super helpful for me as someone else who has always hated “5 year plans” and goal setting lol. The best part of this is that just like at the end of normal year you have a holiday break, you’re supposed to schedule a break/holiday/vacation at the end of every 12 weeks to celebrate what you completed in that time!

My grandma use to say this☺️She even went by the 30 day rule as in making your bed every morning for 30 days and it becomes habit. You just do it automatically 🤷I try to do this along with your 3 months rule☺️😉

I hope you both, experience lots of fun adventures and savor a variety of wonderful food, while you're enjoying the beautiful scenery and warmer weather. I truly enjoy seeing the obvious amount of love and respect you have towards each other, it gives me hope that some day, my specially challenged son, will find his soulmate too. Thank you for helping the disabled community open up people's eyes and showing just because someone needs a little extra help for daily tasks, it doesn't mean they can't have and experience the same things in life. You're an inspiration to many specially challenged individuals and also to their parents. Much Love and Hugs to you both and to your families!!

Hi 👋🏻 guys, I just wanted to share with you, my thoughts that I had while watching this addition of junkyard Mayham..
As always, you guys are an inspiration to me for remaining hopeful that I may one day find true love again. . I watch you guys every time you put out a video just to see your interactions and banter and the way you guys are so deeply connected. It’s just beautiful to witness, and it reminds me of how good it can feel to have a best friend that you’re in love with.
But today, I was thinking about something that comes up often in your videos… Shane… the recurring idea that you cannot rest and put work down. Makes me a little bit worried.. I worry because as somebody who has a debilitating health condition myself, I have struggled with self-worth and what others think of me as a “valuable participant in the world”, and I know that I have struggled without being able to rest and relax because I did not want to ever be viewed as worthless or a sponge on family… etc…
I just wanted to put the idea in your ear that you provide an incredible amount of love and value in this world, without having to accomplish any “goals” or physically manifest anything.
I don’t know if I’m capable of articulating my feelings properly, put the gist of it is, please remember that you are a human being who deserves every single wonderful pleasure of life and you do not have to be constantly producing work to prove you’re a valuable contribution to your family and this world. You do not have to prove anything other than God loves you and you are a radiant white light…
Please know that I see your beauty and your value to this world… you are so much more than just working and producing proof of your contribution. Your laughter, your humour, your kindness, your generosity. Your mind is your gift and your spirit is your beauty.
Does that make sense? I hope that it does, and that you’re not at all offended by my thoughts. I’m just coming from my own personal struggle and at 48 years old, just now learning how to relax …. And maybe soon…. I’ll even enjoy it… lol😂
I love you guys and your whole family and will be praying for health, Wealth and happiness ….. (and little babies) in 2023-infinity
    Your friend in Massachusetts

I actually love both nursery ideas. Hannah, you want Beatrix Potter characters and Shane wants library themed. It wouldn't have to be dark to be library themed. Maybe visit the children's area of your local library for some ideas. My personal thought would be one wall, maybe the accent wall, could be painted like book shelves with the book ends looking like children's books. Maybe have a shelf dedicated to y'alls favorite books, like I'd totally have the Twilight book series up on that "shelf" and my sister would have all of the Harry Potter books. I think it would be so adorable. Pastel colors are even possible with this. I hope you all share photos once you've got one. I can't wait to see what your mutually incredible and opposite minds come up with on this. I wish I could be young again and have a nursery for my daughter who is now almost 23. If I'm lucky she'll allow me to help with hers if she decides to have children lol

I liked the part of the discussion about the dog walks. I especially liked how Hannah mentioned that Shane's resolution about alcohol and his resolution about going on more walks with Hannah and the dog and Hannah's resolution about taking the dog on more enriching walks would perhaps all intertwine and naturally support each other!
And being in the nice weather will definitely help make those goals easier to accomplish when you actually want to and can be outside!
Plus, many studies have been done on how to establish new habits. Replacing old habits with new ones (like going on walks rather than staying behind and having a drink) makes your chances of success higher.
And typically if you can do it for about 8 weeks consistently, then it is more likely to become and ingrained habit rather than a conscious decision you have to make every time. So 3 months in great weather and surrounded by various enriching environments for walks and how supportive you are of each other is really giving you both a much higher chance for success.
And Hannah, maybe those walks in enriching environments will be a catalyst in your goal of being more open to exploring exercise.
You did extreme exercise that was probably mandatory for the high level you were in for your sport.
Exercise doesn't have to be zero or extremely grueling. And there are a zillion ways that you can get exercise that doesn't feel like a chore because it's fun. Like going out dancing, going for walks in fun different settings, joining a friendly recreational team sport like volleyball or basketball or water polo or whatever might interest you.
There are video gaming systems that are physical and get you up and moving and even breaking a sweat, and you don't realize it because it was just a ton of fun in the moment.
You guys will make progress through trying these goals, whether you feel you accomplished them or not.
    Excellent podcast!
    Thank you both!

So, I have watched some of your oldest videos and some of your newest. I have subscribed; so, I will be watching your new videos and sifting through earlier ones. I had totally forgotten about you both until now and I don't know how you came back up in my feed, but I'm glad you did. I have to admit, I was a skeptic at first (to be fair, this is not something common that I see in the world) and had my doubts years ago. But it's really cool to see that you both still exist and both still seem happy. I'm sold now, and I'm convinced this isn't some weird stunt. (I'm a little ashamed that I ever had doubt in your story, or judged what I saw, but again, it's not common to see and was a learning experience for me). I'm starting to believe in you two. Keep up the healthy relationship! And thanks for sharing your story for others to learn from. Cheers guys.

(I know you guys probably won't see this but anyway) Both of your resolutions are similar to mine... Lol I was actually doing yoga this morning as part of this year's resolution to move my body more, but it's taken me about a decade of "resolving to being open to the idea of exercising" before I actually got to this point 😂 also I need to eat more often. I've put on 70 lbs since the pandemic began (in a good way!!) and now I'm getting into weight lifting. Hannah, I think you'd enjoy weight lifting because it's challenging/builds grip strength and/or HIIT (high intensity interval training) because it's dynamic and can be done quickly in an efficient manner. I like to incorporate weight lifting and HIIT together.. It's not so much a chore when you enjoy what you're doing. Also, Shane, I found myself wondering if maybe some of your attachment to drinking has to do with the stigma of "maturity" attached to the ability to drink. I mention this because when I was quitting smoking, part of that was coming to terms with the misconception that formed in childhood that made smoking seem like a distinguished or adult behavior. Just an idea. I allow myself to drink, but I almost never touch alcohol anymore. There are so many more ways to relax and enjoy this life.. Especially once a baby comes along. I believe 100% that you can quit drinking (I didn't think Hannah was being mean in saying 20%,lol,she was being honest) I'm cheering you both on 🎉🎉

Shane I’ve been so worried. I have complex gastrointestinal issues, and tube feeding SUCKS, but intravenous feeding is even more intense and dying from malnutrition is obviously worse!
I really hope you can stay healthy without tubes 🤞🤞🤞🤞

This was the best one so far - I laughed a lot, thank you both! You really are so good together. My sons were obsessed with Robot Wars tv programme we had here in England, which sounds similar to your Battlebots. They even cost me a fortune buying a weekly magazine with "free" parts attached to build their own robot. We also had Beatrix Potter themed bedrooms and the whole collection of stories for bedtime reading. Now, thanks to your combination of ideas, I'm picturing Peter Rabbit riding on Sir Killalot and taking on Mr McGregor with a motorised spinning pitchfork! 😜🤣

My trainer used to have me use this stick with a rope in the middle of it. The end of the rope had a circle weight (like from a barbell) tied to the end. You hold it out in front of you and twist the rope around the the stick, lifting the weight all the up to the stick, then twist the other way to lower it. It really worked my grip and forearms

Heck, having kids will help - someone (typically a parent or the family dog) has to eat all the sandwich crusts, half-eaten chicken nuggets, and rejected meals from the kids! The glamorous side of parenting is scarfing these sad meals over a sink so you don't have to dirty another dish. 😅

I am also in the habit of drinking a beer or glass of wine after work (yeah "iffy" is a good description for me too...). I have had success with substituting it with alcohol free beer to try to reduce... Other things I've found work are grapefruit juice or kombucha, maybe a CBD infused drink if I can find it.
Since personally I found it to be also a habit of sitting with a nice drink at the end of the day to decompress. Thought I'd drop these ideas here incase you find it tricky! Good luck with your reduction Shane I hope you have some success with it! 🤞

For Hannah's first resolution: this was my 2022 goal and I wholeheartedly expected to fail but I joined a ninja gym (like American Ninja Warrior but way easier) and truly fell in love with the sport. I look forward to going to the gym now, the ninja community is incredibly welcoming and encouraging, and I have absolutely significantly improved my upper body strength. I cannot recommend ninja enough, and it feels like being a kid on a playground again, not like working out

    Shane,
You could use a condom catheter with a legbag for airplane flights or even road trips. Condom catheters come in a variety of sizes and most are self-adhesive. I recommend the Hollister legbags and they come in two sizes. You can request free samples from most urological supply companies.
When Hannah asked "what was your SAT score" I could tell that hit well below the belt, but you deserved it for that 'no wiping' comment.

Oh! For a nursery theme combining both of your esthetics and likes, what about like a bookshelf with a stack of books and a stuffed Peter Rabbit sitting on top of them, or maybe in the mural you could have one of the characters wearing little reading glasses and reading a book by a stream in the sun or sitting in an armchair. Things like that maybe could work?
Also, congrats on gaining some weight Shane! Glad to hear it! And I hope you guys enjoy your trip to the warm weather, have fun!
