  • Semper Fi everyone. Welcome to the latest installment of Recon Jack. I’m your host, United States Marine Corps veteran and living-historian, Chuck Lynch. On today’s episode, I’ll discuss Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. which is better known to many Marines as “8th & I,” due to its location at the corner of 8th and I Streets in Southeast D.C
I’m always open to suggestions, and I will likely cover a few Marine family members of some of you subscribers in the near future. I really enjoy interacting with you folks and seeing the growth of this channel; so please do not hesitate to send an email to recon_jack@hotmail.com if you’d like for me to honor you or your Marine unit, or a Marine friend or family member.

I’ve been to the evening parade twice and it still gives me chills remembering the lone bugler playing taps from the top of the barracks with just a single spotlight on….thank you ,Chuck, for another great video

That's awesome to read, Art. I hope to one day be as fortunate as you in this regard. S/F and thanks, again.

    That was very informative
I would love to see the parade but I don't know about listening to the taps. It takes me back to the first time I heard them.

I may sound like a broken record, but once again, really great video! Marine history is so interesting to me.

Another great video, Chuck! One of my few regrets in regards to my “twilight tour” at Quantico was to never make it to one of the Marine Evening Parades there. Such rich history and tradition are always on display there. Semper Fi, brother.

I believe that Marine Barracks 8th & I is one of only 2 locations authorized to fly the 14 star flag…..the other being Fort McHenry

Taps always gives me chills and most often brings tears to my eyes. Very good episode. Those Marines who are stationed there have some very heavy duties.

Another very interesting and very informative episode. And again your historical notes about the War 1812 were unknown to me but extremely fascinating. This was also very interesting to me about 8th and I as I recently watched a video of an evening parade that was held at the Barracks. ruclips.net/video/427gFBgDqj0/видео.html In military band parlance around the world this kind of event is called a Grand Tattoo. I had the honor to perform in a number of Grand Tattoos around the world in my capacity as a Bandsmen. Thanks again.

This is an amazing video, Ken. Thank you so much for sharing it. I finally had the time to sit down and enjoy it. I'm pleased that you enjoyed this episode (I was hoping that you would have something personal to add to it). Also, my daughter insists that I mention to you that she is going to play clarinet this year in her school band. S/F Brother
