I started realizing I was scamming myself when I was considering buying a PS4 to go along with my Xbone just to play No Man's Sky. I told myself I'd also get games like Need For Speed games anyway, even though I already have Forza Horizon 2 AND 3 and I buy every car pack for fh3. I used to spend $50-100 at a time on GTA shark cards to get new stuff. And I now realize that I was falling perfectly into Rockstar's plans: Be too lazy to play my ass off and earn ingame cash so I just spend real money to get new stuff that will be old stuff within a month. I used to be more loyal to some game companies even if they did this because "atleast their product is better" but that is absolutely bullshit. And come to think of it, I can't think of a game company that doesn't to this shit. All my favorite games are made on this strategy. Battlefield and Battlefront, Forza, GTA, etc. If you gather anything from reading this, let it be: Before you buy a game, realize it's all a money tactic anyway. And whatever you do, NEVER do in app purchases because you will only do more. I've spent close to a thousand dollars on GTA. If I got back all the money I've spent on regretted in-app purchases I could buy my own used truck for 2-3 thousand dollars for my 16th birthday and not make my dad do it.
RedAppleGamer Red Barrels hasn't really done anything like that. They released a really great game for a cheap price, and the DLC being equally cheap.
Soulless_Gingie I avoid in app purchases. but honestly you dont need to feel so bad about it. people spend money to entertain themselves one way or another. you were just paying for stuff that increased your enjoyment at the time. for example if you want to see a movie you have many options to do so. you may chose to get the best seats in 4dx with the huge popcorn and cola. that all adds to your enjoyment. maybe in hindsite you could have saved money by streaming the movie online . but it doesnt matter since you would have spent the money on some other activity anyway.

you do know that most indie early acces games are in early acces just to raise awarness about their game and tend to be cheaper than it will be when its released. a good example being subnautica. it was in early acces for like 3 years and at the price of 20 and then had its full release at 30 dollars. hell, this entire video applies to act division, EA and Bethesda.

I never buy a early acces game, normally if it is a game that has online i pirate it first, play the campaign, notice that I like it or not, and then I buy it at discount (that was what I did with Battlefield 1).
But i did a mistake once, I bought battlefield v a time ago (obviusly in discount for I think 15 USD or something like that) simply because the battlefield saga never disappointed me, I was wrong.

Roger missed several points.
Such as:
-the "games as a service" model, where games aren't even owned by you anymore. You pay for the right to play the game. A right that can be taken away whenever the hell they want.
-games being borderline unplayable at launch, and only working properly after several updates, due to them having been rushed for half of their production time.
-games being basically online stores where you have the wonderful opportunity to buy micro transactions (ranging between funny hats and actual cheats) for prices comparable to that of the game itself.
-loot boxes and other similar mechanics that essentially turn games into online casinos. The only difference being that you can't actually get any money back from them, even if you do win.
Buy physical copies whenever possible.

I actually don't mind the point where the game is buggy at launch but they eventually fix the bugs. What normally happens is that the company doesn't work on the bugs and instead decides to opt for DLC content and add in more bugs.

Seriously, though, this was the first time I've ever disagreed with one of these. The console itself is something that lasts a very long time and, whenever a new one comes out, it's a vast improvement upon the old one thanks to the constant technological advances we keep making and it's definitely worth the price to get. I guess it can look like another barrier to playing the games you like from the perspective of these kinds of videos, but there simply aren't ways to play video games without a console or PC, and the fact that the games improve so much over time to the point where the old consoles can't handle them is a good thing. Yes, it's expensive, but otherwise you'd be stuck either playing on your phone(the horror) or using games from years ago that you'd beat hundreds of times and which have their multiplayer servers shut down because no one uses them. You bring up the point that the games were "designed to fail after a certain amount of time". Unless you're an enormous online game with constant DLC, people get bored and move on, simple as that. The rest of the stuff was great, though.

J5robo gta 5 never charged for a silngle dlc. Rockstar is probably one of the better companies to their fans. Sure everything that has come out is overpriced in the game but you dont have to pay real money for any of it and there is no chance of getting dupes during your grinding. Why the fuck people keep pre-ordering, early accessing, and buying pointless DLC that should be already in the game since day one, but are sliced out for future DLC for more sales. We are feeding the broken system. If people would just buy finished games as they are (if they are worth your money) soon enough studios would realize ppl are not taking their shit anymore and have to adapt.
