This YARD looked like a BATTLE FIELD and the CITY wouldn’t touch it. So WE took on the CHALLENGE!!

  • This overgrown yard has been sitting like this for years neglected. The city wouldn’t touch it so me and the boys decided to mow it! After knocking on a few doors to get more info on why it has gotten so bad we learned that the previous renter passed away. The owner attempted to repair the foundation but after running into some issues, he abandoned the job and the property. This has caused quite an issue for the neighbors so we were glad to step in and at least provide some relief and help in whatever way possible. The neighbor was super kind and very thankful. Me and the boys had a great time working on this one and sweat more than I thought was possible lol! I hope you enjoy, thanks again for all the encouragement and support. It would not be possible without you all! God Bless!

Please take the money it's their one chance to give back to the community because many times they are not physically able to participate. You can apply the money to gasoline or equipment maintenance or even a roast beef sandwich. Don't rob them up their chance to help out and feel good at the same time. It was a little surprising to see boys so young using power tools until I saw you take the time to teach them how to do things properly. With so many absentee parents these days, it's good to see someone working with his boys and teaching them useful skills.

      Mmmm Terry I thought you were with me on this one about the young boy using the power tool but seems you think its OK. It must be the Mother/Nan/Nurse in me that sees the danger even though its been explained, you cant trust kids to always do everything you say, they don't see the danger..it might be a case of "well dad said this or not to do that but I'm sure I can fix the problem eg pulling out the jammed wood or grass etc, he wont even know"...not until he is racing his kid off to hospital with his hand ripped off...some things make me cringe, its not all about live and learn.. safety first has always been my motto...

      @TerryProthero 3 месяца назад

      @@jennyc1846
      Some kids can handle these things provided that they are taught how to do it properly. A parent who actually takes the time to get to know his own kids knows what they can handle and what they can't. As a 53 year old man with autism, there are power tools that I avoid myself. Because they would be dangerous in my hands. But that doesn't apply to everyone. Kids have worked on farms for centuries. They can be surprisingly responsible. But these, again, are children who are taught how to do these things from day 1.
      Treating them like babies and giving them a sheltered life can be just as harmful as over estimating their maturity and abilities. I know this, again, as a person with a disability. My limited social skills aren't nearly as limited as they might have been had I not be raised in a large family and treated much like my other siblings. I also grew up in an age before the internet existed. So, there was a lot of a face to face contact with other people. Something that also helped my development.

    You have no idea how valuable your actions are and the impression it will have on these young men and possibly others as well. I was raised around men of incredible character and moral value, to the extent I considered it common place. It was only when I went away to college and post graduate while starting in the corporate world did I realize. I always considered when making difficult decisions how they would have responded, It can weigh heavily on you cause many times it goes against popular opinion. But knowing how important it is makes it worth it. Bravo for setting an example that will carry on for decades.

      The neighbor shared with me that they were attempting to repair the foundation. So they had to dig a lot of dirt from around the house. So those piles could have been from that excess dirt. Also there’s a chance that once it was abandoned people began to use it as a dumping site. Mount Everest so cool. We spend some time living in Kathmandu in 2018 and did some hiking outside of Pokhara. Thanks for the encouragement.

    Once again, a nice clean up. A few suggestions. First get yourself a string trimmer that accepts attachments. And than get a carbine tip blade for it. Every wood plant you used the shrubbery trimmer and chain saw on, would be cut without any issues with the blade. Next suggestion. If you even have plans to cut any property the second time, take the time to clean up everything the first time. Remove all the sticks, boards, bricks, blocks and anything that would stop you from using your zero-turn mower. It will take a little longer the first time, but be a breeze if you ever go back... Just some ideas. Thumbs Up!

      I noticed the old brick foundation was being gradually replaced with cinder block. Probably the tenant was doing the job and it stopped when he died. The owner doesn't want to spend any money on fixing the foundation now that the tenant doing the work is gone. That's the way I see it. I noticed the soul had been dug away from the foundation in some parts. That might call for wood supports to hold the soil back.

    The mounds in front of this house remind me of a local guy in our city. He had several mounds of dirt dumped in the front yard because he wanted privacy. He planted trees on and around the mounds to provide more obstruction. Had no lawn left to mow. Just mounds and trees to block any view.
