2:30 / 6:06 pro tip: before opening basically EVERY console, turn it on for 2-3 sec. without having it attached to power. That'll make sure, all caps are "empty" and there's no more power that can hurt you left in the console. Then you don't have to worry as much when touching the power supply or basically anything inside the console. This should be said in the beginning for every beginner tutorial when it comes to taking apart consoles.
@@YoungAmzn yeah. think of capacitors as tiny little batteries. with no power connected, the power button will still cause whatever's left in the capacitors to discharge. always a good idea with any electronic device really
9:09 The Dreamcast DOES support composite video, as well as RGB and VGA. Weirdly, although the system itself supports these video modes, certain games are not made to work with RGB or VGA. In those cases, a composite video cable is a useful fallback solution. Oh, and some cables are a real tight fit in the Dreamcast AV port, so make sure to push them fully home if things don't look right📺
Bro this was a very well detailed video and put together people thanks for the upload. You're one of the first people i heard of that didnt like the controller lol. But all in all this makes me want to mod my childhood dream cast more than ever!
Awesome mod. Thinking of getting a retrotink (tired of lugging out a CRT) for multiple old school systems and this just makes this even more attractive. Those games are getting both hard to find and expensive and an sd card couldnt be any cheaper.
The best display option for Dremcast is, IMHO, an old-fashoned VGA CRT monitor. No mods required, razor-sharp image and the option of playing lightgun games all-in-one.
Like the red circles and arrow that pull focus and warnings about the power board. I'll save my opinions of the intro for Discord. Also, plastic pry tools :) Great tutorial.
The DCHDMI is the modern extension I drool the most for tbh as my console's case is still fine, same with the laser and I love the controller. But soldering is something I totally suck at.
I already saved my DC once already, around in 2004 the spindle motor went out while i was playing PSO. I took the spindle motor out and took it apart, one set of arms that hold the brush for the electrical connectors was bent backwards (it dod make one heck of a noise when it happened). I ended up finding a broken DC (that was in a house fire) and used the spindle motor from it to fix my DC. It was amazing how the spindle motor even survived as part of the board was burned away.
