The food prepared by the Japanese army is the best food in terms of taste and tenderness!

  • A day in the life of a cooking drill in a JGSDF garrison!
We were asked to film a day of cooking training at the Ground Self-Defense Force Amami Garrison on Amami Oshima.
We were specially allowed to film a cooking training competition and a sustained running competition, which are not usually open to the public, and which were held on the assumption of a disaster.
On this day, we were divided into three groups and each group prepared a designated dish (curry, pork miso soup, and salad on this day) using the same ingredients in an ingenious way, and a tasting was held at the end of the competition .
In addition to the difficulty of making large quantities of food, the dishes had to be delicious, thoroughly prepared for food poisoning by boiling, etc., and prepared for a variety of people from the elderly to children to eat.
Incidentally, in an actual disaster, these hot meals would not be eaten by the members of the team, but would be distributed to the civilians at the destination, and the members would eat mostly cold combat rations and other food at the destination.
It was impressive to see how everyone was thinking about the people who would eat the food, such as "the ingredients might get stuck in their throats," or "this is a taste that small children would like.

But better than what the cadets at West Point, Navy Academy, Air Force Academy, and shipment and aircraft carriers eat? Check out their videos for a reality check. They eat like kings, lol. And hey, this is coming from someone who loves Japanese food, but that grub they ate was nothing special. Now let me go to a proper ramen restaurant.

West Point (and other academies) as well as the submarine service do no represent what real soldiers eat. I participated in this exact same exercise for US Army cooks and we got served canned cream corn, two slices of pre-made breaded cutlets, and a piece of cornbread. I guarantee you there was no chopping of fresh vegetables or other ingredients at the field kitchen. During the Panama conflict, we were given MREs for 3 months because of logistics issues.@@psychomormon4932

If the self defense forces cook anything as well as the maritime self defense force then the food must be awesome. The best military food I ever had was prepared by the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces on Iwo Jima. The food looks great I wish I was there to taste it.

My buddy a combat engineer, got to train with Japanese on the main land. He said that the things that stood out with the Japanese troops was their discipline and fitness! He said their fitness was amazing! Overall he said it was a great and learning experience. You can tell by this video that these troops and very discipline and do everything by the numbers! Very efficient and effective!

Thanks for sharing. Extremely high standard of field cooking by the JGSDF. On Cold War exervices in Germany during the 80s and 90s with BAOR, the standard fare for UK Infantry Companies was a sausage between two slices of bread served up by the Company Colour Sergeant or 'Range Stew' with just about everythig thrown in and heated up over an open burner. Compared to our lot and these Japanes Chaps, its the difference between a greasy spoon Cafe and the Ritz Hotel.
