      Wyroba , brakes!!......If Wayne was in his prime today he still would be making killer passes plus he would have the light equipment and skates and better sticks. Wayne could see the ice from a birds eye view. He could still turn today's goalies inside out if he was 25 today.

    The game is so much different today than mid 1970s to 1995ish. Just look at the amount of players scoring 50 + goals back then compared to now. The goaltending techniques and equipment. The players off ice training, diets, etc. Totally different. Can’t compare really. The fact that Ovechkin is scoring like he is in this era is absolutely astounding. And the fact that Gretzky did what he did in era is brilliant. Two different eras . Two amazing players

    goalies don't only read the eyes... they read body language and the angle of the end of the stick + the velocity behind it to understand where to puck it going.

    • @ruggie.74
      @ruggie.74 5 лет назад +2

      Body language and blade angle were the biggest for me when I played. Also, I try to use sound when I'm screened. Intelligent defensemen would let a silent wrist shot go when there was a screen in front -- but not many guys did that because most defensemen aren't very smart ;)

      @@ruggie.74 it really boggles my mind how some defensemen can block shots... The reason I say this is because I've NEVER had a defensemen who was able to my block my shot... even slap shots at point black range... You just keep your head up & adjust the direction of the shot that it can slip thru to the net.

    • @nikolaikalashnikov4253
      @nikolaikalashnikov4253 5 лет назад

      Since you guys are sharing secrets... I'll share one of my own: Eventho I played forward, I was so fast that I could easily cover defense. I know 2v1 defensive theory & orthodoxy: That you're supposed to take away the pass & let the goalie worry about the shooter. I vehemently reject this strategy. Instead, what I like to do is leave the passing lane OPEN. From a psychological perspective, now you've almost assuredly FORCED the shooter to instead PASS... otherwise, he will for sure take heat from his teammates about the blatantly open passing lane. Make sure to pull your stick in close to your body & skates... so that when the pass goes out, you can recoil it for the interception. Good luck.

His personality is like no other superstar, he knows he is great but he’s not obnoxious about it. It's hilarious that Mario Lemieux rarely gets mentioned in the discussion of greatest goal scorers ever. Hilarious!
    Ovi is making a run up the list of the best ever for sure. Ovi, Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy are really the ONLY names to consider. The fact that Ovi has made it into that group is amazing and people want to crown him King, but he doesn't compare to Lemieux. No way, no how. Besides the fact that Lemieux also put up ridiculous assist numbers that only Gretzky bettered in history, Lemieux was the best goal scorer in history. Period. Imagine if he only focused on scoring goals!!!!!
    He evolved over the years and through injuries, after injuries, after illness...after illness.. insane.
    Bossy had a bad back for one season and hung em up. He, "didn't want to be an average player" after surgery so he quit. Lemieux went through 2 surgeries, one resulted in a terrible infection that could've crippled him, excruciating pain that forced him to have other players tie his skates for him...he couldn't sit in the plane to games so he walked or laid down.
    He dominated in low scoring eras, even after everything AND not playing for 3- 1/2 years, and returning at age 35. Lemieux had vision, reach, skating, HANDS, holy hell did he have the best hands in hockey back then. A few could rival him since, but man...
    He could score goals more ways than anyone I've seen. A huge reason why he stayed great goal scorer through everything..
    92-93 Lemieux came back from cancer after getting his last radiation treatment that morning and blew the league the hell away. Can't remember the exact numbers but it was over three points per game.
    He was so hobbled throughout his career, and was still unstoppable.
    Give me a heathy Lemieux in his prime any day.
    Tldr: Lemieux was the greatest goal scorer ever.

      He will likely advocate for Putin since they apparently know each other on a personal level. All I found from Ovi is this: “I don’t know. Maybe nothing has changed since the 90's where he lives. My life has changed, a lot has changed in sports in the country.”
      Panarin made comments about how the country is only providing for its larger cities- specifically St. Petersburg & Moscow.
      He also goes on to say that Putin essentially doesn't listen to his people, and that he doesn't make "sober" decisions because of how many upper class/government officials that might influence various decisions that (poorly) effect the lower class.
      I thought this was a pretty good quote: "If everyone is walking around you for 20 years telling you what a great guy you are and how great a job you are doing, you will never see your mistakes."
      I tried to find something from other players but only found stuff about guys that MIGHT respond to this in some way. Such as Kovalchuk, Malkin, & Varlamov.

    I may be biased as a Caps/Oilers fan but I think he is the best goal scorer hockey has ever seen, he is playing in the era with the lowest goals per game in league history and we are still talking about him even having a shot at Gretzky’s record which was set when goals per game was upwards of 7.

    • @melvynobrien6193
      @melvynobrien6193 5 лет назад

      Did you ever see any games in the fifties, sixties and seventies? Ovechkin is not an all-round player. There were many better players, too many to mention. It seems you haven't seen many. You're not aware of the fact that the game was much tougher, and if Ovechkin had played then he wouldn't have been allowed to stand around to take shots. Someone would have pummeled him. Gretzky used to skate around those trying to hit him; it was almost impossible for anyone to give him a solid hit, and if they did, they'd get punched out by a teammate. Different times, tougher times, better goalies but with smaller pads, and fewer European players helping to turn the league soft and wimpass as it is today.

      ruclips.net/video/1CfKryZ8AA0/видео.html think about the difference in goals per game in those eras and Ovechkin’s career. It used to be upwards of 7, it’s closer to 3 now.

      I agree with your statement about the toughness of the game changing as the rules and style of play have changed over the past few decades. It will always change for sure. You have to admit that the average amount of goals scored per game has decreased since the 70s and 80s. The 90s and early 2000's were brutal with the two line passing and trap systems. We've had years where players have won the Art Ross trophy without breaking 90 points (Jamie Benn) when Patrick Kane and Ovechkin were in the league. So it's not to say there's no talent in today's league compared to then. Also, players play less now. There used to be only 3 lines and 2 d pairings before a certain point. 4th liners used to only play 1-3 minutes a night to fight. Now they get 10 minutes a night. That leads to a trickle down effect for less time on ice by the stars. The first 2 lines were scoring then 3rd was checking and 4th was the goon line for most teams. Now they have 3 quality lines and a 4th line to check, but teams who win the cup have deep 4 line teams. On top of that, Gretzky played in an era where the WHA merged with the NHL and a lot of teams did have terrible players on them. Teams folded. A lot of those teams won less than 20 games a season and were blown out in games by more established franchises. I agree Gretzky was incredible. Probably in the top 3 with Orr and Mario Lemieux, I do agree it was "easier" to get more points back then if you were a star. Only because of more ice time, longer shifts, less talent on some terrible teams, different rules, style of play, etc.
      I don't want to leave out how people would cheap shot and injure star players either. I saw it with Bobby Orr. He did most of his work on one knee. I'm not ignorant to the toughness of the game and the viciousness of players back then.

    • @coachchris548
      @coachchris548 5 лет назад

      @@omgitsaidsyay very true about lot of what you said. Remember Edmonton was one of those teams from the WHA, I remember when they said Gretzky was gonna get destroyed with his size and style, but the way he skated ,he got very low when skating avoided many a check with his skating.
      A good hockey player can play in any era
