Walter Gretzky boy. What a great human being. I remember meeting him in the mid 90’s in Brantford. We played in the Walter Gretzky tournament. That man made a point of showing up to each an every game, greeting parents greeting kids. We’re talking A level hockey here. 25 years later I took my stepson to Walters tournament and sure as shit that old fella was there greeting these young kids and their families. What a fucking Canadian treasure.

His family name is Canadian superstars but still just humble normal people... that's why he's so great he's appreciated and approachable.. plus he's cool asf 😎 👌🏻
Grew up playing every sport in the book besides probably tennis and lacrosse and finally played true on ice hockey at 26 and 30 this year. Can’t get me off the ice lol.
I live in Brantford Ontario, Wayne's hometown and I'd say he got his wholesomness from his dad. Walter Gretzky was the nicest man you could want to meet and added so much good to this city, and Canada as a whole. Just a wonderful human being.
my buddies son got leukemia and his make a wish was to meet Wayne Gretzky. The problem was that L.A was in playoffs but as you all know when make a wish happens for you you are not to far off death's doorstep. Well Wayne took an overnight flight went to a brunch and spent the whole day playing hockey with my buddies son and all of his friends. Wayne got made at gis publicist when she was pressuring him to leave. His response was legendary. "he said that the day when I put a hockey game over the life of this Godly young person is the day I will quit hockey."
As someone from BRADFORD Ontario, we know very well about how impactful Wayne and Walter were because every person brings them up every time I tell someone where I'm from, I'm like no not Brantford, like gretz, BRADFORD we are known for growing carrots 😁🥕 LOL about an hour and a half away 😂
This is the best interview Gretsky has ever done. Other interviewers always treat him very carefully, and they try to show sophistication with their questions. Theo asks him completely random and off-the-wall things, and it really brings out the kid in Wayne. Great stuff, Theo.
I totally agree ! This is just a chat , Gretzky doesn't have his programmed responses from run of the mill questions because Theo is so damn curious and funny 😄
"When I was growing up, I didn't even believe in Canada" "Yea, ice is expensive, I think it's $18 a bag where I'm from." "Did you guys even go on vacation as a kid...like Florida, or the North Pole?" Theo was on one this pod.

Dude. You keep getting amazing guests. I live ten minutes from where Wayne grew up. I never got the chance to meet Wayne but met his dad on multiple occasions. He was a great man. Rest In Peace Walter.
That’s an understatement Walter is the most genuine person I’ve ever met. He stopped by a pickup game with my team and took 15 minutes just to work with me out of the ten or so players on my wrist shot for no reason and kept on kept on working with me till I got it right. I was driving through Brantford on my way to Hamilton while listening to this. My Mom was one of Walter's nurses when he had a stroke. He came to my parents house after my Mom retired and brought her flowers. Makes you want to be a better human. 👍👍
Theo is seriously killing it with his guest lately!! to get Dana White and Wayne Gretzky is unbelievable! Screw those people that ripped you off Theo, now they really regret not having you on their side with all the success you’re going to have!!
Wow, man, the world needs more positivity like this. What a wonderful and welcome contrast of personalities between the interviewer and interviewee. Struck the perfect mix to send an uplifting, philanthopic message to the world. Mad respect 🇨🇦🇺🇲
I remember going out of a dressing room after winning the silver stick championship in Pelham, my Dad walked me over to a super nice older guy who said he liked the way I played and that he’s seen a few of our games. My father in the car ride home told me that it was Walter Gretzky, I couldn’t believe he didn’t tell me who he was before hand! Still can’t over 15 years later lol. Rest in peace Walter, I’ll never forget how nice meeting you in person was. ❤🇨🇦
Its increadible how far theo has come ,as awhole just in the last few years, but as conversationalist, hes truly on another level. He has too be one of the best listeners, like no joke and i think why his comedy has soared to the max!.
The Gretzky's were superstars in Brantford, not just because of Wayne's skill but for how much they gave back to the city. I remember when Mama Gretzy's perogy recipe was printed in the Brantford Expositor, my own mom was so excited to try it! Walter was always willing to appear and help out at charity events. I went to high school with two of Wayne's younger brothers.
The range of Theo's interviewing skills is off the charts. He's always curious, always funny, but never chooses humor for humor's sake when a more impactful emotion is present.
Haha...how about talking about celebs doing smoking commercials and Theo says "nowadays people get mad at celebs doing gambling commercials" lol! And Wayne mentions the gambling commercial he just did! hahahaha!!!
he was more dominant in this sport then they were at theirs, it sounds crazy but if you look up his stats, it doesn't compare, hockey just happens to be a more low key sports than those around the world
he's the all-time points leader, and if he never scored a single goal, he would still be the all-time points leader. the most amazing statistic in the history of any sport
I met Wayne in 1982, got his autograph in Belleville ON, Canada where I lived near and he signed a picture for me and I couldnt say a word, I was in awe...His brother Brent used to play for the Bulls and he was there ...Never forget that, nicest guy ...
Being a die hard hockey fanatic for closer to 30 years and a fan of Theo's the past couple of years, i didnt know how much i wanted/needed this episode in my life till it popped up on my feed lol you killed it like always my guy
LOL joe just had Dwayne the Rock Johnson/Elon Musk/David Blaine in the last 2 weeks...wtf are you talking about... while juggling the comedy mothership and UFC...
Wayne Gretzky is such a classy guy…. great stories about his mom and dad - his aunt - such a nice person - a family man - rule in his house…. be nice to people…. “treat others like you want to be treated”…. how fantastic is that?
Wayne is a quintessential Canadian person from my generation… Just a really good person from a generation that probably won't be repeated ❤... he's literally the essence of every person from my generation in Canada.
When I was in high school I got to caddie for Wayne when he golfed at Saticoy. It was always such a pleasure. The kindest and nicest guy. He’d learn my name and he tipped really well. Genuine guy
This is one role model that I had as a kid that has never let me down. I grew up in Northern Ontario and I used to watch all of the games, That team they had in Edmonton was stacked, that was some of the best hockey I have ever watched. I do not think Wayne will ever have an equal. He was an amazing player, he was also a great person off the ice and gave a lot back to the sport, maybe more than anyone else. My favorite moment was when Canada won at the Olympics in 2002 with one of the best teams ever put together.
This boy from south Louisiana just chillin with Wayne Gretzky and I can’t stop smiling!!! I’ve been watching Theo for years now but this conversation makes me feel so proud of him…and I don’t even care about hockey😂😂
I really admire how Theo can talk to literally anyone and it’s just comfortable , sometimes you watch these interviews with this giant celebrities and it seems so cold and robotic it’s nice how he can get them to come out of their shell and ask different questions they’ve probably never been asked . 😊
Legendary podcast! Wayne is such a nice guy. He gave my Grandma his stick (no puns pls) for her birthday after a game back in the battle of Alberta hockey days.
I'm truly AMAZED at the natural skill Theo expands the conversation under pressure. That's one of the best interviews with #99 I've ever seen. I'm 50 from 🇨🇦. Impressive Theo!
Phil Hartman is also from Brantford, Ontario. As someone who was born and raised in Brantford (and still lives here), Gretzky was always such a big deal and the face of our town really. Even with me having little interest in sports and zero interest in hockey, he was always someone to be proud of and admire. With seeing this podcast, though, he appears to be a nicer and better human than I could ever imagine him being. Also, Theo ending the podcast with "you kind of scored all your goals on the ice" ... he never ceases to amaze me! I couldn't have enjoyed this watch anymore than I did.
And DON'T forget why Brantford is called "The telephone city" - Alexander Graham Bell either hails from Brantford or spent his productive later years there - and me being from Hamilton, the closest biggest city..... doesn't come close with our famous sons and daughters.
As a Canadian from near Brantford, it's always good to hear Wayne recounting some old stories, particularly about his aunt. Best part - Theo referring to the Stanley Cup as a gargoyle. Lol.

I was driving through Brantford on my way to Hamilton while listening to this. My Mom was one of Walter's nurses when he had a stroke. He came to my parents house after my Mom retired and brought her flowers. Makes you want to be a better human. 👍👍
Gretzky seems like a genuinely happy guy. Love to see it
He’s the sweetest fr
I can’t believe this. Theo and Gretz. What a life!!!
Theo is seriously killing it with his guest lately!! to get Dana White and Wayne Gretzky is unbelievable! Screw those people that ripped you off Theo, now they really regret not having you on their side with all the success you’re going to have!!
Theo asking about Wayne's mother and her hobbies shows he's just genuine, classy fella.
Ive been hearing Great One interviews for 30yrs and never once has anyone asked about his mom. Theo is the best.
@@muximus2771this exactly, never heard any of these stories
What's the time stamp for this
@@RSZ91 pretty early bro... first period maybe
Right? I bet he's never been asked about his life like this by an enterviewer ever
Theos interview skills are honestly amazing.
His really good "off the wall" questions creates some interesting conversations.
Wow, man, the world needs more positivity like this. What a wonderful and welcome contrast of personalities between the interviewer and interviewee. Struck the perfect mix to send an uplifting, philanthopic message to the world. Mad respect 🇨🇦🇺🇲
#99 is such a class act. Makes me proud to be Canadian. He was my hero growing up. The greatest to ever lace up a pair of skates.
The variety of guests Theo has on this pod rivals ANY show. Great job this year🙏🏻🤙🏻!
Gretzky: "The pucks are actually frozen."
Theo: "The Patriots probably did it"
Nobody is more humble than The Great One
Man crazy to see Theo's guests lately. What a legend himself! Finally a big podcaster giving hockey some love
Its so nice to hear someone speak with so much passion, humility, and gratitude.
I love watching Wayne Gretzky laugh. As a Canadian, it's so cool to see our national legend have fun on a show like this!
watching this makes me SO proud to be Canadian! This is such a wholesome conversation.
Edmonton loves you, Theo and Wayne!!! I actually cried tears of pride for both of these outstanding legends during this podcast.
Theo makes tuesdays 10x better🙌
What a gentleman Gretzky always is. Always kind. Humble. Proper parents. So good he never needs to tell anyone.
So many golden one liners from Theo went undetected this interview 😂 legendary guest
“Probably the patriots” 😂
"Ice is 18 dollars a bag where I'm from."
"Yeah."
“That’ll give anyone Down syndrome I think”
killed me@@SenatorFeathers
Haha...how about talking about celebs doing smoking commercials and Theo says "nowadays people get mad at celebs doing gambling commercials" lol! And Wayne mentions the gambling commercial he just did! hahahaha!!!
Theo referring to the frozen pucks, “The patriots probably did it”😂
Theo: “Gretzky, Great one” Gretzky: “No just Gretz” 😂😂😂
Thanks Theo and Wayne! My Canadian heart loved this conversation!!! Such a treat to hear and see you two talk🇨🇦
Gretzky was better at hockey than Michael Jordan was at basketball, Jerry Rice was at football, and Babe Ruth was at baseball. A living legend.
100% 🤘
he was more dominant in this sport then they were at theirs, it sounds crazy but if you look up his stats, it doesn't compare, hockey just happens to be a more low key sports than those around the world
Idk about Rice and Ruth. Those two were the best by a lot. Especially Rice.
he's the all-time points leader, and if he never scored a single goal, he would still be the all-time points leader. the most amazing statistic in the history of any sport

Wayne seems like such a nice and chill guy. For the fame he had that’s just super impressive.
Theo saying Wayne looked like Princess Diana when he was young is the hardest I've laughed in a week or more. 🤣
Gretzkys gotta be the classiest Canadian out there man. What a guy. What a legend.
Man Theo is having better guests and convos than Joe by far
Ever since Jamie got that homeland security gig the guests just haven’t been the same
LOL joe just had Dwayne the Rock Johnson/Elon Musk/David Blaine in the last 2 weeks...wtf are you talking about... while juggling the comedy mothership and UFC...
@@dougsk8rwiggy only one of those podcasts was worthwhile lmao
calm down fanboy@@dougsk8rwiggy
Jamie got out of there? Thank God. That was not a good relationship besides the money@@0mizar
"The American Eagle hatched chicklings right next to a Payless Shoes" Theo dropping pearls right over poor Wayne's head all through this thing.
Haha noticed that too
Ya that had me laughing.
Big thanks Theo for having The Great One on your show! 👍 🏒 🇨🇦
Wayne Gretzky is such a classy guy…. great stories about his mom and dad - his aunt - such a nice person - a family man - rule in his house…. be nice to people…. “treat others like you want to be treated”…. how fantastic is that?
That Volkswagen Rabbit story was hilarious......
The collab we never knew we needed, As a massive hockey fan and huge Theo fan this is the best of both worlds.
Wayne is a quintessential Canadian person from my generation… Just a really good person from a generation that probably won't be repeated ❤... he's literally the essence of every person from my generation in Canada.
Out of all the podcasts I listen too, Theo’s leaves me feeling light and hopeful. Great break to my day. Thank you Theo!
When I was in high school I got to caddie for Wayne when he golfed at Saticoy. It was always such a pleasure. The kindest and nicest guy. He’d learn my name and he tipped really well. Genuine guy
Great guests Theo. I appreciate your respectful ways of keeping the conversation going.
Love to see Theo leveling up at such an astonishing rate. Speaking to one of the greatest athletes to ever live as only Theo can. ❤
Gretzky is an absolute legend! Thanks for having him on the pod!
Theo is one of the funniest people in conversation. Always says something unexpected
theo has mastered respecting his guests while also taking playful jabs at them
yeah the Dianna comment was right on the line 😅
I don't know which one of u I'm more proud of!!!! Just two humans talking...thanks for letting us be a part of it. :)
At this point theos bringing the best guests of any pod out there
This boy from south Louisiana just chillin with Wayne Gretzky and I can’t stop smiling!!! I’ve been watching Theo for years now but this conversation makes me feel so proud of him…and I don’t even care about hockey😂😂
THEO EVOLUTION!!

😂❤
She was a warrior. Gratzi could feel it
😏😏😏😏
Growing up playing hockey from a little weeee kid I have been waiting 43 years for this interview. Thank you Gretz!
This episode hit so different and I loved every moment. It felt so wholesome. Maybe that’s just Gretzky’s charm.
It is. He’s literally the goat in every aspect of life.
💯
Excellent interview and interactions. The quiet humility & grace of Mr. Gretzky matched very well with the understated humor of Theo. ❤❤❤
Theo you're awesome man the guests you choose to have is very eclectic and I love that
As a Canadian from near Brantford, it's always good to hear Wayne recounting some old stories, particularly about his aunt. Best part - Theo referring to the Stanley Cup as a gargoyle. Lol.
he actually meant the two dudes holding the cup i think
