Disastrous Aircraft Descents | Aircrash Confidential Ep 2

  • In the rare circumstances where an aircraft pilot loses control of their planes' descent, the results can be among the worst disasters in aviation history. This episode explores why and how descents can sometimes go badly wrong.
In 1988 a plane air crash happened at a Air France airshow stunt. A Airbus 320-111 descended too low during a low fly-by and tragically killed three members of the public. Unfortunately dangerous descents don't only happen at airshows and this programme will also look at how uncontrolled descents during a commercial craft's runway landing, can have deadly consequences for everyone on board.
How on November 14th, 1970 a DC9 carrying the Marshall University Football Team was approaching to land at the airport in Huntington, West Virginia. But the aircraft doesn’t stop its descent at 1240 feet as instructed. And how on 20th December 1995 American Airlines Flight 965 crashes on its approach to Cali, Colombia.

as a disabled teen , the disabled teen being **left behind** makes me wanna sob and it also makes me indescribably angry. i'm not paralyzed , i probably could make it off , but the fact that the flight attendants and at least some of the other passengers **knew** he couldn't make it off on his own , and yet no one stopped to help him , not even the friend who was going with him , it's horrifying.

Disabled adult and had the same reaction, it breaks my heart. Especially knowing this is still standard practice for likes of building fires, if you’re wheelchair bound then you are to be left at a “safe point”….. and to wait, for someone to hopefully rescue you.
I use a walking cane, I could push myself and force myself down stairs to survive or the plane emergency chute, but it still angers and depresses me that we’re viewed as expendable and like our lives aren’t worth saving. He had his whole life ahead of him and nobody tried to rescue him.

Another was a girl in seat 8C, who was unable to remove her seatbelt (her younger brother had removed his own seatbelt but was carried away by the rush of people before he could help his sister). The NTSB listed 2 probable causes for the Marshall crash. The first translates into “pilot error”, the second was a problem with the altimeter. Pilot error is the most frequent cause for plane crashes. It looked like both pilots were reading the instruments wrong, which NTSB considered highly improbable. Or were judging altitude by looking at the wrong instrument. NTSB could not pin it down. Horrible tragedy.

Those trees likely saved many lives of the Air France demo flight by absorbing much of the plane's kinetic energy. Too bad there wasn't less fuel on it, the fire probably caused many of the deaths.
Any time I get on a plane the first thing I do is note the locations of the emergency exits and I count the rows to the closest one so I can find my way out without being able to see.
If you criminalize being part of an accident with "involuntary homicide" you now create a situation where people will do everything they can to hide information and avoid addressing it. The focus should be on not repeating the accident, not a witch hunt.

I enjoy watching these shows to learn about history. This one's nicely done but there's two mistakes in the Marshall crash section (among other problems in the rest of the show). One, they mistakenly say the plane took off from Huntington not North Carolina. Two, that map of the route was absolutely wrong. The end point is on the Virginia/Maryland border. Huntington is on the West Virginia/Ohio border. Completely wrong state there. I am a West Virginian, no West Virginian appreciates being mistaken for Virginia, no offense to Virginia.

Too little too late ,apart from the wrong initial instr. given ,the computers on board should “know”that when full pull up is applied then all air brakes should auto be cancelled giving auto more lift to a struggling aircraft to gain height and thrust ,air brakes should be automatically cancelled Victor

I just do not agree charging pilots with the death of passengers, unless they find irrefutable evidence of a murder/suicide plot by one of the pilots. Why don't they address the several weaknesses in the fuselage to make the plane crash more survivable? Pilots need some kind of protection, like airbags, just because there's nothing between them and the console!

Then, having passengers in the plane.
    With some of them kids.
    And one of them disabled.
Then, screw the passengers.........I'm gonna save my partner in crime instead.
THEN, to come onto a documentary to try to mitigate your responsibility?

This documentary is showing totally different result of air france crash by blaming the pilots but actually it was airbus fault...pilots had to fight for this and later on airbus did admit its fault...they changed some software in new design due to which when pilots pushed the throtlle to climb it didn't act quickly but there was a delayed response due to which they crashed
Airbus tried its best to put the blame on pilots but later on pilots won...there are other documentaries available on RUclips showing that..
I am surprised nobody in comment section has pointed that and how come this documentary not showing the correct reason 🤔

Wouldn‘t it be normal to take her with u it costs 2 seconds of time and in this case they could all escape then it was not like the airplane was inside ingolfed in flames already 😢
