My intended use for this tent would be in forest clearings or just up from a river or stream with pretty good wind protection so this test has convinced me that this tent will easily handle any weather I will need it to, in Autumn, winter and Spring I would also use a stronger tarp over the top and on the windy side of the tent anyway for extra wind and rain protection, I only really need to be ‘light/ultralight’ in summer
Thanks again for a honest test 👍🏻
Brilliant Stripey...couldn't stop laughing at your facial expressions and all the Holey Moleys used in the tent lol.🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
I'll give you one thing.....your a die-hard camper.Only thing missing was a Tsunami wave coming off Loch Lomond.🤣🤣👍
Hahaha thanks a lot Andy 😂☺️☺️
Wow! That was insane! How did you stay so calm and upbeat?! I’m glad you had a tent that could handle the fury of that storm. I’m sure this video provided great feedback to other experienced campers and the tent manufacturer too. Thanks for sharing your amazing experience. I love your videos👍🏻
COOL! Beautiful view all around there. Serious air flow and precipitation! That is one hell of a true test. Thanks for sharing that.
Thank you very much Dwayne Robertson 😊👍
Great to see you out in the Lanshan in conditions like this.... Fair play to you and you are very relaxed despite the weather... ATB and keep up the great content. Tom
Thanks Tom, the impression must be wrong 😂😂😂
Probably your best non mountain wild camp video Stripey. Strong Performance of the Lanshan 👍
Thanks a lot Malice, yeah the Lanshan can take quite a beating from the wind 😂
Too funny!! I love these videos
That's one confident camping spot!
I'm sitting in my tent in the pentlands tonight, enjoying your videos. You've gained a new follower.
Hi Orkid. music, thank you very 😊. Enjoy your wild camp mate 🙌👍 ATB Stripey
I literally thought you were going to take off. With a few broken bits and adjustments you survived this one. Good going. Mark
Hi Wye Explorer, yeah sometimes it just needs a bit of add hoc improvements to make thinks work, hope so that I won't experience that again to soon 😃👍
@@StripeyHatGuy It was like a flight tunnel. You were on the case mind. Yeah, rather avoid if possible. My names Mark. Peace.
This happens when you book economy class Mark 😂
@@StripeyHatGuy Indeed it does. All good experiences though. Have a cool week.
Cheers Mark you as well 👍
Nice video, I own and love this tent, Lanshan 2 pro seems much more stable after you setup extra guidelines. I know how to setup the guideline properly during the strong wind next time. Hope you will upload more videos for Lanshan 2 pro in the future.
Yeah with the extra guidelines it got much more stable can definitely recommend it! More Lanshan 2 Pro content will for sure come. Thanks a lot for watching ☺️👍
Yep. I also have it. This tent sticks to the ground like no other. It survived a huge Ice balls rain that broke my car windows
ahh one of life's simple pleasures: trying to put down a groundsheet while camping in the middle of a Hurricane.
Great job and fantastic camping 👍 love the rain and wind 🍃
Thank you very much Maria😊
holy moly 💨💨💨
Loved it Stipey😁..The Lanshan was taking some battering from that wind and rain.
Thanks a lot Murchies Mountains! Was quite a windy wild camp, still impressed by the performance of the Lanshan so 😊👍
Laughed when you said the world is ending. . . . Really enjoy your videos!
Thank you very much!
Hope stripey hat won't get blown away holy moly 🤠
Mate , you have a great attitude. A RUclips algorithm delivered this to me. Keep it up. Stay safe ATB
Hi Dessie Diamond, thanks a lot ☺️ ATB Stripey
Best wind and rain test I ever saw, great video absolutely crazy
Thank you very much!
Holy Moly indeed , enjoyed that 👍🏕
Thanks a lot Outdoor Ally 😂🙌👍
Wind was crazy, fair play to you getting out in it 👏
Hi Kev, was quite an exciting adventure so 😉👍
Wind makes every thing change- be safe - new friend here
Hi Dave Collier Camping absolutely and thanks mate 😊🙌👍
You crazy man. Brilliant mate.
I couldn't stop laughing at you laughing in the tent. Well done 👏
Thanks Tam 😂😂😂
Greetings from camper!
Amazing adventure.
I enjoyed watching it.
You got new subscriber!
thats crazy, I would not have been trusting that tent 😂well done for still smiling
Hi Gus Explores, thanks a lot - wasn't easy in times 😂👍
thx for the video helps a lot
Thanks a lot for the feedback 👍
Also, great idea to add the extra guy lines.
Thanks!
Oooft , you certainly put the Lanshan to test there. I have one but i seen Scotts video so its put me off taking out in strong winds . Good video mate ...cheers Stevie .new sub
Hi Stevie, thanks a lot! Yeah probably not the best tent for strong winds but when you are careful during the set-up (every tent imho is here most vulnerable) then it actually can withstand quite a breeze. Said this if I would have to choose between a Scarp, Hilleberg, Mountain Hardware, Vaude,... Lanshan I wouldn't pick the Lanshan for these conditions 😂😂😂
Nice one Stripey. That was some wind. Your face was a picture 🤭Mon the #teamlanshan 💪
Hahaha that was the Lanshan look Kev. I guess earlier or later everyone looks like this at some point in his life 🤣. Really like the little Lanshan, does the job perfectly fine what it was intended for! #teamlanshan 👌
Enjoyed the video! Call me crazy but I love camping in those sorts of conditions 😎
The 2 Pro seems a lot like my Zpacks Duplex. These tension trekking pole shelters can be tricky in strong winds for sure. I lower my poles and pitch as low to the ground as I can.
Cheers from California
Hi Alex on the Mountain, thanks a lot. Yeah the Lanshan 2 Pro is basically a Duplex just from cheaper material plus the zipper doors when I memorize correctly. Lowering the whole set up further down would have been for sure better, unfortunately my leki micro Vario didn't go any further down 😏. Thanks a lot for watching 😊👍
great video to see how the tent behaves, but ( dunno if was done intencionaly ) the worst spot to put the tent. No trees blocking wind.
Fun. Just fun. I honestly don't know if the tent has problems, or if the weather is exactly too extreme for it. The are some pretty heavy gusts. But, I've been in the same weirdness where I wondered if my tent would get me through the night.
Hi Russell, I think the same - the weather is just to much. The Lanshan 2 Pro is a brilliant tent but these conditions are just a little bit much and I won't do it again in these conditions with the Lanshan. IMHO these conditions are rather for proper 4 season tent's 😃👍
Cool video. Really enjoyed.looking foreward to more adventure s from your Channel soon.Atb Søren
Thank you very much Søren! ATB Stripey
Fair play for toughing it out, I'd have been tempted to spend the night in the car!
Hi Chris, honestly if the car would have been closer I would've considered it. 👍
Good video. The tent performed well given the windy conditions.
Absolutely! The Lanshan is an amazing tent!
Thanks
Stripey
@@StripeyHatGuy Just had one delivered yesterday. Excited to try it out next week!
I am sure you will love it!
Oooft, holy-moly indeed!
I think you've highlighted the Lanshan's limitations. It's not a storm tent. Could have ripped like Big Scott's! 😯
Good video though, on an exposed pitch!
Hi Robin, thanks a lot! Yeah for sure a bad spot to pitch a Lanshan in this conditions, wasn't expecting it to be this windy and I am almost certain that the wind was higher than the "forecast" - but I guess everyone things that 😉. Anyway the material of the Lanshan 2 Pro isn't the same one which Scott used. I believe that I read that the newer model uses fabric which is 5 or 10 times stronger than the older Lanshan.
@@StripeyHatGuy ah right, I just think with the shape of it, the sides won't shed wind very well. I'd prefer a Lanshan 1 2020 version if I was to pick between the Lanshans. 🤔
Oh I see how you meant it - yeah absolutely right. The shape is not made for super strong winds or heavy snow loads, for that there are better tents on the market (e.g. proper 4 season tents).
@@StripeyHatGuy good fun testing it to the max nevertheless. 😁
Yepp it was. Can't wait to test the Scarp in some high winds - might work out with the coming weekend and hopefully in the mountains again 😃
I'd love to know the true windspeed, looked a lot stronger than 40 kmh 🤔 I love my lanshan 2 pro, but realize it's not for extreme conditions, but was impressed it made it through the night. Great Video 👍
Hi lomino 64, thanks you very much 😊. Would love to know it as well! It is a great and very capable tent when pitched with the right side to the wind. 🙌👍
Loads more than 40km more like 50mph
Is that Balloch by any chance? Think I was there one afternoon, looks familiar.
Love your work man😊😊
Camping on a windward shore. Try a Lee shore.
Haha! 🤣I've never seen a Lanshan 2 in that shape before, is that a special model? 😉I think we've established with all the wind and rain videos that nobody is getting any sleep in such conditions, but it's good fun watching a tent dance in the wind. I liked your on the spot extra guys, but I LOVED your lighting inside the tent, looked brilliant 😃
Thanks a lot Scott, yeah I paid extra to get the squinty version of the Lanshan 😂. The extra guy lines help quite a bit but didn't help the trust level that much 😉👍
@@StripeyHatGuy 🤑😂
Nothing is helping those sail like panels, but it held up regardless! I still have a soft spot for the Lanshan 2, especially seeing how much space & headroom you had in there. They need to make a 40d version with crosspoles 😄
I really do think that the tent is great for the money but it has clearly it's limits and after seeing the footage I need to admit that I am quite surprised that it didn't rip/break/fail. I really like your cross pole idea, unfortunately I am not gifted with the needle, rather a glue person (dynamee), definitely something to think about so. Cheers Stripey 👋👍
@@StripeyHatGuy I’d leave it to the manufacturer to be honest 😉 I think they are a great tent for benign conditions, relaxing on a warm, clear night - at least you’ve got the space to relax while the midges swarm outside, haha!!
See your thoughts mate 😉👍
Nice Video 👍🇹🇷
Thanks you Halil TR 54 👍
The weather wasn't bad enough in Germany so you came to Scotland 🤣 Willkommen 🏴 🇩🇪
Haha BigGoucho - Dankeschön 👋👍
Alle Wetter!
Yeah or super Wetter 😂😂😂
nice review, thanks. i'm interested in it too. but i am concerned that i am too tall, i am 193cm and do not want to touch on the head or feet end.. what do you think would it still fit? you seem to be on the taller side too..
Hi J. Charles, I am 1.87m and the length is kind of borderline that you touch the single wall during sleeping so you probably would need to cover you footbox of the sleeping bag plus diagonal I guess, the headroom is ok I think in the middle.
Thanks for watching! ATB Stripey
A couple of nights in that weather and you certainly would have suffered from cabin fever.
Even after one night you were looking a bit shell shocked. 🥺
Hi Alistair, worst night I ever had in a tent which wasn't on a mountain! Great experience so!? Anyway weather looks great this weekend and already looking forward for tomorrow 😃👍
@@StripeyHatGuy the better weather seems to be my days back at work recently.
I think I know what you mean mate, thankfully I have the weekends no paid work to do and finally tomorrow it shouldn't be cloudy further up 😃👍
Bonkers! Lol.....Paul
Hi Paul, yes it was rather one of the crazy wild camps 😂👍
So, now that we know 30 to 35mph winds will start the destruction process. We also know that at 50mph the forces on that nylon will be 7lbs per Sq ft. This is what that fabric can handle. Let's talk about that dyneema, 10" carbon fiber stakes and zpacks rams head door locks? Lol. Let me know if you need anything shipped over to you, I will help out where I can. We are currently working on the R&D portion of some new innovative tent stakes as well. We are hoping they will be the end all to UL with maximum tensile strength!!
Hi Apoc Survival, didn't know all that stuff mate 😂🙌👍. I did built my own dynamee tent so which I used very often in the Alps but it is rather a tarp tent style without a ground floor and not really suitable for tick country 😉. Not the biggest fan of CF for tent pegs or poles for ice conditions - read that CF doesn't like the cold (said this I have no experience myself) so far no complaints with my titanium nails..Yeah the Zpacks rams would be really nice so 😉🙌👍
@@StripeyHatGuy yes, extreme frozen ground can be an issue. I usually switch to the MSR Easton 10 inch, they come in at 10 grams each. 👍
Ah ok, good to hear from someone who has acted the experience first hand! Thanks a lot mate 🙌👍
What is your experience with the fabric in heavy rain ? They say the normal version is better for whet condition but de pro version seems better for heavy wind. Does the nylon absorb and retain a lot of water and does the fabric start to sag when whet ?
I don't think that the water column on a fly makes such a great difference in the regions where the Lanshans are. The wind stability should be technical better with the pro version as the 15D should be the stronger material.
It is really depending how and where you pitch your tent, the tent material from my Lanshans 2 pro doesn't sag too much, like any other 15D Silnylon tent. You might want to re-tighten it once after the material is wet but after that all good 👍.
A good shake in the morning or better even trying to dry it out removes most of it.
Thx for you quick answer ! Will go for the lanshan pro then as I don't see any benefits in getting the normal version, apart from being able to pitch only the inner tent in summer, which I'm not going to do anyway.
Do you think it will hold up well in the highlands as well ? I want to do the west highland way with it. Or can I better get a tunnel tent such as the vango Nevis 200 ?
Appreciate all the content you make btw!
For the WHW the Lanshans 2/Pro is perfect imho. Practice the set-up before at home/field/... that you know how high you want to have the trekking poles for the airflow, usually I leave quite a gap for ventilation, only in stronger winds I pitch it low down to the ground.
Don't forget that you will need to seam seal it (takes not long, did it in one of my videos where I am camping infront of the Buachaille Etive Mor)
Survival.
It felt like it 😂
Nice breeze 🙂 I see you have good taste with an Arcteryx jacket , a proud canadian company 🇨🇦 , thanks for the video ! Oh I forgot , new sub here 🙋
Cheers Bon Pecheur, I really like the jacket, had before this one an Alpha SL for nearly 9 years 👍
Windy yes, but not excessively though....Guess that is why they make Hillebergs.
Haha I guess Alan Davis. Said this I am still impressed with the Lanshan 2 Pro (price for value!) 👍
I tried to tell you about the metal Zpacks hooks….I even sent you a link!🤦🏻♂️😂
Hi Martin, I know but I wanted to avoid the costs - well now I have a reason 😂
@@StripeyHatGuy 😂
By the way, that was a real test of that 20D fabric and it is STRONG!
Yeah I think so too. Impressive little tent the Lanshan 2 pro for an even more amazing price. I really like it!
I don’t understand what you said u have subtitles?
Hi Cess Outdoors, I am afraid I do not have subtitles. ATB Stripey
@@StripeyHatGuy no problem it was just very windy and loud but I understand most of it
Oh great, thanks for watching 😊👍
I’ve figured out the difference between us Americans and the rest of the world when it comes to camping.
If there is a light rain we sensationalize it into a storm.
This dudes in a hurricane and goes “it’s a little windy” lol
😂😂😂
Nice video but too short.
Oh wow, thanks a lot Iqra 96! I just kept it short as people would be bored seeing sitting me in a tent for 10 hours / at least this is what my experience from other videos are. You might enjoy my Aonach Eagach Wild Camping Video, a bit more mountain, but also windy and rainy in my self built dynamee tent 😃👍
This is why you always take earplugs
Mate no thanks 🤣
Hi John 😁, you would have loved it 😂👍🐺
Bitte sprich einfach deutsch😅
