I know just enough about airplanes to get me in trouble but love your videos jimmy . But what i love most is that you answer so many of the post . I can only imagine the time it takes . Also you have a great personality . Just a normal guy . Obviously you have money but you dont act like it . You seem like your the local airplane mechanic . Keep it up !
I'm not sure who is more excited - the viewers or you. Don't know how you keep up the energy and attitude, but God bless and rock on!
thanks so much! I'm genuinely excited and love seeing this project come together.
Nice progress. Can’t wait to see it all completed...✈️
Thanks!! Me too!
Jimmy's world videos. A good loaf of healthy craziness.
Keep it going jimmy.
Happy landings from Portugal.
I’ve been enjoying your videos. You are going through the experience that I am just culminating in. Me and my aircraft partner are just finishing up a restoration of a 1978 Grumman Tiger. It has been stripped down and totally repainted. New plexiglass, new interior, new prop, overhauled Lycoming including a PowerFlo exhuaust, power aileron trim, and finally, to be completed in the next week or two, a totally refurbished panel with all the Garmin goodies including a GFC 500 autopilot. It has been an expensive project, but we do love our Tiger ! She’s a joy to fly. I’ll own and fly this plane until I can no longer get a medical. Good luck with your project !
nice! Great project!
Hey Jimmy really enjoy your channel. I keep an eye open for your content updates
I'm not a pilot or mechanic but, I do enjoy your videos! Very entertaining.
I really like your sense of humor. Keep up the great work. LOL Love it.
Thanks so much!
Great Job! Very authentic presentation.
Hey Jimmy, love your videos! Can't wait till you actually install this autopilot!
You and me both!
Great job there young man .
I was looking for your video earlier and was disappointed not finding it. I was elated when I saw you had posted it. I would love to be doing what you are doing.
Thanks! It is a ton of fun! trying at times, but still pretty awesome.
Hey, thanks for that timely advice on the kni... Medic!
hahaha, exactly!
When using a knife remember "Cut your buddy not your body" lol
Bought my tru trak Monday morning and had the whole package Wed afternoon. They addressed there issues. PA 32 as well.
How the heck did you do that?! Who did you get it from?
Love your channel mate!
Much appreciated!
Good stuff Jimmy!
thanks!
I enjoy the videos Jimmy. It's a real shame the government continues to price regular people out of general aviation, such as in Cherokee 6 ownership and restoration, with over-regulation. Just had this same conversation with my CFI who owns his own small school and confirms it gets worse every year.
Can't wait to watch you fly this bird! ✈️
You and me both!
I'm from poll county never been in a plane I wanted to be a pilot but I think I will never be love you vids ive been to sun and fun many times in Lakeland hope to see you there one day
You might give some thought to the Navion for your complex project. Very stable. Usually a number of projects out there. Was touted as a mini airliner. If you can get a Rangemaster (model H) you won't want to get rid of it.
Nice! thanks for the suggestion, I'll check em out.
I might see you at sun n fun, usually I visit every year.
I feel like, when you are done, I will be able to build a PA-32 from the ground up just by saving and rewatching all your videos
that is dangerous, When all this is completed, I'll put together a video of what I would do next time, the same and different.
Get a Navion project. Not as fast as a Bonanza unless you get a 520 or 550 engine but a very solid plane with no unobtanium ruddervator issues.
Klasse Great Job Joop Visser From Holland.
Thank goodness for the fast forward button
Hahahaha
If you can find one, a C172RG would be a cool project.
That would be a cool project! Not many of those around.
Jimmy, I can only hope that’s bird poop on the windshield behind you.😂 I’m enjoying this build.
hahahaha, I'll have to taste it to be sure... hahahahaha
When you get to the end I suggest adding some color to the plane in the way of stripes. Would look way cool and next level.
definitely! I was thinking of a vinyl accent. Thoughts?
@@therealjimmysworld Yes. Exactly. Not sure of the scheme thou. Straight or wavy stripes althou. I kind of like the wavy pattern you see on the newer 172's
yeah, those are nice. I was thinking of copying new jets wavy lines.
@@therealjimmysworld We should definitely do a consultation with Pastor Jim. He will show us the way.
good call, I might have to give him a ring.
jimmy i have sub'd to your channel i find this stuff fascinating i would like to know what mic you use and with where from please and thank you....... keep them coming chap
nice shirt!
Hey man! Love the vids! Where are you located? Would love to meet you! Peace
If you think the Trio is better than the TruTrak/BK, you have not compared the servos side by side! :) Have fun with the install. It is very involved compared with the TT, but the Trio flies Cherokees (the PA-28s) very well.
I have not had the pleasure comparing both side by side. You are right, that install on the trio is legit! 11 hours just for the roll servo...sheesh!
That's why experimental airplanes are great!
I am definitely leaning that way for the next one! Do they make a 6 place experimental? I can't find one...
@@therealjimmysworld comp air makes a six place with good performance. Raptor also but that isn't ready yet.
I'll have check into those! thanks for the follow up!
Hello Jimmy. Are you doing all the install work? If yes how does that work? Do you have A&P working with you?
So do you want to stay with a Piper for your next up grade? If so look for a Lance or a early Saratoga. Otherwise I would suggest a Debonair, or a older Bonanza.
not stuck on Piper, I like those others as well.
This episode reminded me of the kids u tube when they unwrap kinder surprise continually …
YOU’RE OVERLOADING THE WING!!!
hahaha
Plug gapped...dey gangsters
The price of the toys can be large. I own boats (break out another thousand) and can feel the pain of parts pricing. Marinizing, making stuff to survive in marine environment , is the reason the screw that is ten cents at the hardware store is five dollars at the ship's store, iron v special super deluxe stainless.
Don't complain about your prices,
I live in Canada so we have the exchange and international shipping.
You can pretty much double the cost.
oooffff
It would be great to see you rebuild a Comanche.
There’s a piper Comanche Facebook Group they have pretty good deals on fixer-upper’s and a ton of knowledge.
That would be cool! I haven't been on facepage since 2018... Do you have a link to the group?
I can only share it with somebody on Facebook just type in Piper Comanche in the Facebook search. I have seen a Comanche in there as cheap as 15,000 I think it needed a lot of work but it’s always nice to see one of these old birds back in air.
I’m not really a fan of Facebook either but The knowledge in this Comanche Group is a ton of help for parts and experience Plus they have some pretty cool fly-ins haven’t been yet but once everything settles down looking forward to it.
I may have to see if I still have my password and check it out.
I know one of the guys on there is selling a 400 that would be an awesome plane to fly.
the 8 cylinder one?! lol, I'm imagining the fuel burn on that hog... hahahaha
“No better not do a twin” now you have multiple lol you may be a Gluten for Punishment.
did you get the experimental one? the certified one is 5k!
Any graphic color trim going on old whitey??
Certified cost is why I fly experimental!
I am seeing the benefit now!
I have 24k total time and will never fly an experimental....sorry
@@pbertf24 stay mad boomer
I probably have some of those spark plug wire grommets in my parts storage. You should run that stuff by me before buying it at retail. I'll go look then send you a picture if I can find some. Update, nope, none like that in stock. Sorry. Another thing, why not skip the complex single and just go for a twin rating?
no worries, I asked my insurance and they won't cover me yet and I don't want to have one without insurance. Twin will be on the journey, I might be talked into it if the deal was crazy good.
hum, let me see. I have a six-cylinder gofast under the hood with duel ignition. How many spark plugs do I need to gap? haha
G, day Jimmy from Sydney, Australia.
* you have left me: unclear about the autopilot and it's requirements for the plane serial number. Moreover, the cheaper option eliminating a secondhand autopilot fitted to the plane.
last annual for the Cherokee
* the hinged cowling doors and locks: I note that a pilot cannot just, get out and close the door while at 12000 ft. What is the durability of the continuous hinges on these panel doors?
* I don't know a owner of a complicated aircraft.
Take care🌏🇭🇲
Thanks for the questions. I'll do my best to answer them.
- autopilots (from what I can find in the US, might have different rules in other parts of the world). The STC/permission is serial number specific. Therefore, if I were to purchase a secondhand setup, I would have to go back to the manufacture and purchase a new STC/permission, if they would even give me permission. And most require that the system be installed by their approved shops. So, I couldn't install it myself.
- hinged cowling doors: I suppose you could talk your co pilot into climbing out there ;) Seriously though, it's a door with a latch and lock like other doors on an aircraft. This one had issues with the fiberglass splitting and the wind catching it and tearing it off or damaging it in flight. Not a big deal to repair.
- bummer...
Talk to you soon.
So you're going to sell this one when you're done? I might be interested.
sounds good. $1million and it's yours ;) I'll sell it after I get the next project at about this stage.
Where are you based? I’m flying an f33a bonanza out of kbow. Let me know if you need anything.
hey! right around the corner! I'm at KPCM.
How much is it? Can it fly an ILS or just the magenta line?
It was right at $5000, magenta line, all digital, so no ILS with autopilot.
Instructions!!?.. we don’t need no stinking instructions!!!! 😎 (pushes red button and somewhere in the world a portal to the sixth dimension opens!)
yes!!!
Jimmy, surely with a sharp knife, you would want to cut away from your tummy, not towards. better still, use scissors, as you are less likely to have an accident.
What autopilot is this Jimmy?!
The Trio Pro Pilot, The STC Group LLC is the certified supplier
How much is your monthly hangar fees?
Thanks for the comment. It’s in the maintenance hanger, so.... they haven’t gave me a bill... yet.... I’m afraid to ask.
For my Cherokee 180 it is $250 a month and heated (huge plus in the upper midwest).
that's a pretty good deal!
How much does the system weigh?
good question, I'll have to look at the paperwork. I'm sure it's on their website somewhere. overall the system is super light. maybe 5lbs with all servo's, wiring and unit... Hope that helps some.
Are you selling this plane or are you keeping it?
Eventually I’ll sell it, but not until I find the next plane and it’s ready to go.
@@therealjimmysworld I’ll be keeping my eye on it as it would fit my needs in a year or so.
that would be about the right time frame.
How much is Trio paying you ? Seriously, that control head looks mickey mouse. Compared to a trutrak, that thing requires a lot of sweat and frustration to install the servo in the wing. Both servos on a Trutrak are easily installed under the rear seat of that piper you spent so much time on. Very easy install for an autopilot.
Are you 'locked' into the certified world? Or would you rather fly the 6 for a bit, while building an experiMENTAL complex aircraft ;}>
I'm definitely looking at experimental! seems like way better value for the dollar.
@@therealjimmysworld IMHO, much better value. And you get to do it your way. Plus you can do so much more towards maint etc. Much better engine choices too, even turbo supercharged diesels so you can run cheaper jet A. A whole different world then certified.
You budgeted 65k "...........actual costs ..... the GDP of a small Latin American country.
Exactly!
Welcome to aircraft ownership; say goodbye to your money from now on.
hahahaha, for real!
It is boring to look at parts. Just install them.
You'll like the next few video's then!
Just put the parts on don’t show them to us
But they're shiny!!
