Borrowed NS MP15E 2394 moving F7A SLRG 576 and 578 to NS interchange at Gastonia, NC. Intended for "Train to Christmastown" service on P&N, the F's were unable to be put into service in time, and never turned a wheel under their own power during their short stay on P&N. Reported destination; Grenada Railway in Mississippi.
Those f units should be in a museum
They are part of the United railroad historical society roster, not technically a museum but they are preserved equipment.
I felt like I saw these in Chattanooga
@@louisianamainlineproductions they are. They are now part of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum
OMG....I could almost cry seeing those Lehigh Valley F units going down.
Used to see them in Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton all the time years n years ago.
Still think the Fs design look the best hauling passenger trains like Amtrak.
Randall Hips n isn’t a word.
@@donnebes9421
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 welcome to the internet Don lol. For me, it's like finger nails on the chalkboard and I've given up noticing and certainly responding. No one mangles the English language more than AMERICANS. You'll wind up pulling your hair out over what you'll see in the comments on RUclips, and stay off of Facebook as it'll cause you to drink Koolaid laced with arsenic as the mangling of English is so horrible there. This example is incredibly mild as compared to other examples.
@@bhigdaddymark "n" is a variable, like in math. The OP just means that he can't remember exactly how long ago (probably quite a long time). Anyone can understand that.
@Randall Hips you seen lehigh valley before? If so id like to hear some stories
An excellent video. I think the early F7s, with the small dynamic brake fan, were the best looking locomotives ever. I have five F7 units that power the premium passenger train on my railroad. (A-B-B-B-A, 3 powered, 2dummies). Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.
I remember taking a trip from Alexandria, Va on a Southern F Unit pulled train. It was cloudy when it pulled in and it looked eerie and Huge. Ofcourse I was 8 years old but was thrilled. I still am by these.
I remember riding behind them in an excursion at the Whippany Railway Museum in NJ back in 1997. Love to see them back in service again. I've also seen & photographed the Reading FP-7s 902 & 903 in service on the now defunct Brandywine Scenic Railway in SE Pennsylvania back in the late 1990's.
The F units, we're and are, some of the most popular locomotive units ever made. I would think, most any short line, in need of locomotive power, could restore those locomotives back to running condition. Maybe the engine might need to overhauled or another engine could be used.
But in the long run, the F units would really add to any short line, tourist line, or even a major railroad could use them.
Honestly I think that f units are impractical for freight service because of th fact that they don’t have good visibility for switching and you can’t get on top of the pilot for when you need to get off the train frequently while switching. They are good for tourist service tho and should never be scrapped
@@BAS19.6 You have a point. But, as long as its financially possible to restore these units, they can be used, in many ways. I still love those " covered wagons!"
Hoping they will survive and be rolling under their own power at Grenada Railway! Love these old F Units!
The most beautiful locomotives
The F units.
Why can’t they be brought back??
Because the stupid EPA said "no as it pollutes so much and we prefer a back to the future looking car then that".
Because they don't make much sense to use unless it's for a heritage railroad. It's not like they're going to be brought back when technologically there are better options to choose from, in terms of power and emissions not to mention cost.
they re my favorite f units
A lot of it is because the crew running the units don't have very good visibility in the cab. Even with the mandated addition of ditchlights on most operating F and E units, they're still tough for the engineer to see.
Shame because they look nice but I can understand why most railroads have moved away from Bulldog nose designs.
@@michaelmyers1999 Australia still uses a good number of f units in revenue use
How coincidental, that the sign next to the track in the beginning is "DEAD END"
✌😔
Awesome video, man I love that single old looking track, love the locos and that last shot of the F unit fading down the track, well done, well done!!!
Former CNW and NJ transit, picked up by URHS of NJ, and repainted into matching LV scheme. Put into service at the Cape may seashore lines (videos available on RUclips), then sold as SLRG 576 and 578
I remember those engines years ago sad to see them go .
I remember seeing them leaving Hoboken on their first fan trip run pushing in the rear. I was so intrigued by the sound when they were finally notched out and the blue smoke bellowed in the air. I was in love!
Beautiful old timer's . I hope they end up at a train museum so the world can see a classic.
They are...I think
The Trains I remember as a kid in the 60's ,trips from California to North Carolina in the summer )) what awesome memories ! HS Class of 1975
You would think in this day and age we would stop destroying things we can reuse or have appreciation for it in some other way . these locomotives look great!
R.I.P. F units. Welcome to that big switchyard in the sky.................
They're not getting scrapped. They are at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.
That is a shame. One of my favorites.
love that ex lehigh valley heritage scheme
However both LV #576 and #578 are alive at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. However they're still immobile until TVRM decides to restore both of them.
Love these head-on train pix!
Great
Nooo, save the F units! My favorite locomotive.
Excellent !!!!
Lehigh Valley, my hometown
What a shame
I'm retired, I was an HDR/W heavy Equipment Mechanic CAT, pretty much all of it.
It was once, A switcher, I think it Belonged to SJ Groves Sons & Company, I worked
for a dealer in Syracuse, they had a rail line from the main line to the shop:
I think they bought it used, two of them, one Needed some head work
done on it, Mack- daddy heads. just two holes but way heavy.
back in the day I'm 71 now, pretty much played out: when we were kids, some times you got a train set or two, and a few odds & ends things hand car, and other things, My father bought Lionel.steam engines and switcher, I collected many more sets, pretty much one or two here
and there at swap meets, Model Train events, I have first run on the F units of Lionel
one dummy the screw drive wheel motors, lots of freight, Cabooses, Love those cars.
and branched in to some other electric train sets, I don't collect any more,
Where we live now not much of that takes place here, but in CA, lots there.
I have a first run on the aluminum passengers cars for the F unit's, they are awesome.
found back east, they were covered in rust, in a waisted box, looks like they been left
in a barn in upstate, went back & forth on price, took me a summer to dress them out
like new. painted, polished, just display with the others. The Cabooses, I have a few of the
so called up scaled Caboose from Lionel, all post war, I don't mess with the newer stuff.
I love hearing these wonderful memories and times.
Gorgeous!
Very sad I know somebody that ran the f units at hoboken fest in 2001
Lehigh Valley Railroad Is one of my favorite railroad so they deserve to exist in 2020 , for example Alco FA1 or F7
Awesome video!!!
I love the f units I have a present day layout and just added a short line for f units
Great images...Big like from Romania
Love me some F units!
Good lookin trio of locos
Beautiful place 😍😍😍😍
Nice video! Greetings from Spain 🚂👍
Very nice video! 👏🚂👍
Poor f units
Are there ANY switchers left on NS now?
lol i live in gastonia and never knew that crossing was there...damn
Qual nome dessa locomotiva
Those lehigh valley F units have been all over the place
Is the train going to be buried?
Sad
I found out that those F Units were sent to Cape May Seashore Lines.
They were on the Cape May Seashore Lines till leased to Iowa Pacific who is NOW (as of 2019) bankrupt.
Mike N2ICV I heard IAIS is trying to buy Iowa Pacific so maybe the F units will go there
Farming and Rails Of southwestern Iowa. Iowa pacific does not own the engine just leased them.
Horn 0:34
I can smell the diesel
Are they being scrapped?
Are you sure they're going to scrap? Seems they're intact and ripe for restoration.
what do you mean by funaral train
Just lifeless objects, why the fuck does this actually makes me feel empty inside
They are in Canton, MS but the local thugs have vandalized them.
Sad to hear that.
If only I had more money and resources... I would love to own an F unit. Definitely my favorite first generation diesels. And to see them in LV paint, too!!! That's not a common one anymore.
@@PowerTrain611 go buy em up.
Probably only asking scrap price now.
@@mattlf9120 Scrap price is still more than I have to spare... not to mention restoration costs and storage costs, not to mention fluids... fuel, oil etc
Not too far from me. Too bad I live on Mississippi wages...
You bet they should!
This could make an arts movie ... about 'the last one of F's ' or something , beautiful and sad video.
Even a wig wag signal would help in a residential neighborhood like this one.
not legal to install these days
@@microbusss Really? I never knew that.
@@bazis98 yup its not
unless on museum property & line isn't connected to a outside line
@@microbusss ... what about a private property crossing? Would they still be illegal there?
@@werksdesign no thats ok too
if its a Private Crossing Like to your house that fine to install one there
Why???
Where the f units now
I hope they weren’t going to a scrapper!!!!
They're owned by the URHS so that wont happen
