Eddie’s body language said it all that night, he did not want to be there. It’s a shame they did this to Dave. I’m glad we got the two songs from it, but I remember how furious I was when I found out that it wasn’t gonna happen. I was kind of stoked to hear Cherone was gonna sing with them, being a big Extreme fan. I was also just very curious, but the Dave in, Dave out move was just wrong on so many levels.
It was never meant to be a reunion...just two songs to boost sales for the greatest hits album. This was just promotion for the album..poorly set up and misrepresented.Gary was all but signed on to be the lead singer but they have to do promotion for any new album and I guess their manager and the record label arranged this debacle.Their manager at the time,Ray Daniels,is responsible for not only ruining Van Halen but also Extreme’s careers.I hope that guy is all but bankrupt and managing a McDonalds right now.
Dave was upstaging Beck and milking the occasion during an allotted time award presentation. Plus he did more backstage. It was painful and embarrassing seeing his “look at me” toddler persona. Made it all about Dave during Beck’s moment, then literally stated it was “all about him.” Being high probably didn’t help matters combined with that ego in the line light for the first time in years.
@@aynsleighmalayne3558 I remember hearing about how they (Eddie and Dave) almost came to a fist fight, backstage. Fearsome Name What could have been? What you saw in recent years, a band who plays great, but with a singer who can no longer sing! His voice was shot back then, and today it's non-existent.
I can't imagine being Mitch Malloy sitting at home witnessing this on TV after being asked to be the next lead singer of VH! Van Halen could've done well with Mitch at the helm...it's a shame
Mitch has a killer voice, but I think he would’ve been a bad fit for VH. Truth is, anyone beside Roth or Hagar was going to bomb. I felt bad for Cherone, because he’s a great singer and sounded killer with Extreme, but just didn’t have a prayer with VH for numerous reasons. VH now should just record and quit touring because Roth’s voice can’t cut it live, but he can get it done on record, they’re last record was outstanding.
vanshipman I Agree, it's easy to hide vocally in the studio behind effects and take after take with vocal layering, but on stage in front of a massive audience live is another story altogether! But they won't invest in making albums because it's expensive, and nobody really buys whole albums anymore so there wouldn't be a return on the investment.
Nope, they hired Mitch Malloy and then let him sit at home and watch them walk out with Roth without saying a word to him about it beforehand. Talk about a bunch of backstabbing bastards. Cherone was nothing more than a lifeboat for their sinking ship.
I read an interview with Michael Anthony and he said he hated Dave from day 1 - from the minute he met him, and he said he couldn't stand him. After I read that I thought maybe Mike not going on the 2007 tour with the band might have been about Mike and Dave and not about the Van Halens kicking him out of the band.
mitch would have been horrible... he would have sound like all the other 80 rejects who had no direction of there own.. listen to the recording of mitch he was not a fit
Scott LeBrun exactly..he is a decent singer but not for Van Halen and I think Eddie recognized that the moment he heard him sing the old material...the bootlegs sound like a guy trying too hard to be professional at karaoke lol
