    Excellent video. I don't think people understand how hard it is to narrate a video. You've got a great narration voice.

    Hardball is 1.260. If you move to Federal or CCI primers it's like using .02 less powder.

    Great video. Make sure you don’t forget to check the spring tension on the failsafe rod. It looked a little loose.

    Excellent timing! I spent the day refiling 45 ACPs on my 1050 press. I used 4.1 grains of VV N310 under a Nosler 185 grain JHP, I also used Winchester primers. I used Starline cases that were a Christmas present.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад +2

      Those are some "primo" loads what with the top-of-the-line Vihtavuori powder, Starline brass and Nosler jacketed bullets. All of those rank at the top of my list.

      @@RexRoach Yes sir, though they have a downside for me, no excuses for not shooting them well.

    A little advice for the primer filler: orientate it so primers are in the corner that's closer to your body and horizontally so primers are on the right side each time.
    You will see primers go better into primer tube this way :)

    Nice video Rex, I use to use CCI large pistol primers exclusively, but since I started reloading 458 SOCOM and .50 Beowulf I've switched to Winchester Large Pistol Primers only, as they are good for pistol cases using regular or Magnum primers..

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад

      Yeah, I've always appreciated Winchester for their one-size-fits-all Large Pistol primers.

      For some reason my 1050 seems to feed Winchester primers more reliably, so that is mostly all I use.

    Always enjoy your videos Rex! Question? How many times can you reload used brass until you toss it and get new brass?

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад +1

      Bill Wilson reportedly said he would load his brass until it split...and then just five more times after that. He was joking, of course! With moderate loads and minimal neck flaring, you’ll probably lose it before it splits. I used to shoot a lot of hot magnum revolver loads and you rarely lose revolver loads, so some of them eventually split. Can’t say how many loadings I got, but I never had a problem except for poor accuracy with old brass. Rifle brass is a different matter. A rifle case separation is bad.

      Rex Roach thank you! Learning all I can with loading so much to it compared to gunsmithing which I do mostly. But with all these dam laws being passed and also being from California I’m doing all I can to reload all my own ammo so it’s always good to hear advice from wise men.

    Love your videos. I do have a question for you, where did you find the adapter for the shell holders for your HOLLYWOOD press? I had one 60 odd years ago, gave it to a friend, and his daughter gave it back upon his passing. y\Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Rex, what is the purpose of the rubber band between the powder measure body & the powder bar? I know the older measures used a spring there to return the bar but your measure has the later rod. Regards Russell

    • @RexRoach

      Maybe not needed, but it adds a bit of authority to the return of the powder slide. It's like so many things we do in our lives that look good but maybe have no real benefit.

    Do u have to reset everything when loading different kinds of rounds. Like 9mm to 45.

    • @RexRoach
      @RexRoach  4 года назад

      Yes, absolutely. All of the dies on top will be changed. The shell plate which holds the brass cases will change. The primer system will be changed from small to large (in your example). Even if you use the same powder (very common) you will probably need to change the amount. The case feeder plate will change (up top in the blue hopper) as will the feed tube and the case feed plunger. In other words, just about everything will change.
      One thing you can do to expedite a change is to purchase an extra tool heat (the large round block with the dies and powder measure that moves up and down) for each caliber. That way it can be completely outfitted, adjusted and fine-tuned so about 80% of the work is done quickly. If both calibers use the same primer size, that helps a lot because it takes at least twenty minutes to convert between small and large primers.
      Best case scenario is about an hour. Typical would be two hours. Worst case maybe three hours.
      Good question. Thanks!

    • @JeffinTD

      They do also offer a quick change kit, which is a tool head, and a powder measure. The caliber change kit (shell plate, case feed adapter, funnel, backup die, and buttons), plus a die set are also needed to change caliber.
      I also prefer to change out the Dillon lock rings to ones with a set screw, so that dies can be removed and reinstalled without changing the adjustment.

      @@RexRoach If you have multiple Dillon pick up tubes you can load primers directly in the Dillon tubes all at the same time. Here's how.
      1. You have to remove the black locking end from the Frankfort tube. I did it by putting the tube very loosely in a vice and giving it a sharp yank from the other end. It came right off.
      2. Remove the pick up tips from the Dillon tubes.
      3. After putting 100 primers into the Vibra Prime, insert the black locking devise into the Vibra Prime.
      4. Push the Dillon tube up into the black locking devise open side first and then fill that tube.
      5. Repeat that process until all your Dillon tubes are loaded.
      6. Of course you will need to store the tubes open side up. I just use a coffee can.
      I hope you understand my rambling directions. If not you can contact me at will at willdeb.net.

      @@willdeb1 I understand perfectly. That's a great suggestion. I have a ton of Dillon tubes, so I will certainly give this a try. Thanks a million.
