    I've used Dillon presses for over 30 years and I can tell you without a doubt they are fully capable of loading match-grade precision ammunition. The only reason I use a single-stage press is that I don't have a caliber change-over kit for that particular caliber due to the fact I don't shoot it enough to be practical. If you practice and pay attention to your technique when operating the press it will produce the same precision ammo with the same concentricity, bullet seating depth, primer seating depth, powder charge, and crimp as doing it all on a single stage with a stand alone powder drop. My Dillon press was a 550B that was stolen by some low life. I now use a 650XL and could not be more pleased with the high-quality ammunition it produces. The biggest problem people new to progressive reloading presses seem to face when operating my press is short stroking the operating handle. Nine times out of ten this is because they want to go too fast. As long as you set up the press correctly so that it operates smoothly without jerking and jumping around, and lubricate it the way Dillon recommends you shouldn't ever have any problems. This is a precision machine and should be treated as such with proper cleaning and maintenance.

      Short stroking is a massive problem. Depends what you consider "match" ammunition too.

      One thing I would suggest is to center the incoming primer arm in the shell plate before tightening the mounting screws just to have the most precise alignment of the arm's tip to the shell plate system. The 750 was major for me, the old 550 worked so well, and the 650 had a few issues so I waited a long time to skip the 650. The 650 was designed by a different guy, so there were a lot of new ideas tried out there. Sometimes the old way is better. :)

    Excellent overview of the 750... as a 650 owner for 25 years, here's my take:
    - Good on them for the roller bearing on the indexer block, shows they were watching what customers were doing to their machines... this does make a big difference.
    - WTF is that cheesy-ass case retention spring on station 2? Seriously, Dillon.... best (quality) replacement option you could come up with?
    - Swapping the locations of the indexer pawl & detent? Not sure of why this was done, but the indexing can't be any different since the caliber conversion kits are interchangeable between the two machines. Only thing I can see is that it moves the indexing pressure under station #5 where case ejection is occurring...
    Now the elephant in the room... mixed feelings on the new priming system:
    - As far as speed of changing sizes. Very simple with 650... purchase new priming system so you have both sizes. Pull two bolts, replace system, change plunger and done.
    - I do like the fact that the new system does not feed another primer if the previous one was not used, however there is an aftermarket sliding cam block for the 650 where you can disengage the priming system and not index the priming disc when desired.
    - Isolating the primer stack... I think this was a non-issue where they just did something different to say "Hey, we're innovating!!" I used to shoot competition, and have loaded many hundreds of thousands of rounds through my machine, and have NEVER had a primer detonation, nor have I heard of anyone else having one... sounds like a case of fixing what wasn't broken.
    - Not a fan of that bent piece of wire being the action for the priming system.... I'm sure Dillon has done plenty of testing since their name is on it, along with their No B.S. warranty, but it just looks sketch.

    • @HuntShootOffroad
      @HuntShootOffroad  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback and taking the time for the right up! Yes the station 2 spring 😂
      I actually just purchased the case feeder disconnect, I guess the problem with the primer feed disconnect is forgetting to turn it back on.
      I thought they could have changed the angle of the indexing to slow it down more.

    The new priming system is almost identical to the one used on the 550 ever since it came out. I have a 550 I bought new in 1985 when I started shooting PPC, I have probably loaded over 100,000 38 specials on it. I bought a new 650 a couple of years ago, one downside was the more complicated priming system.

    Awesome video. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I personally dont have much trouble with the primers on the 650. It seems that the 750 uses a system similar to the one used by the Hornady AP machine. That is cool but not necessarily enough to upgrade from a 650 if one already has one. With the number of aftermarket trinkets available for the 650, making it work well is easier and cheaper than the new press. Thanks again.

    Still only 5 stations...6 would've been nice. Yeah, the shellplates and toolheads interchange between the 650 and 750 so I understand the reasoning. But adding an extra station seems like a no brainer. Also, an integrated LED lighting system would have been a welcomed safety feature. The biggest disappointment however is not having the ability to adjust primer depth...bummer.

    • @HuntShootOffroad
      @HuntShootOffroad  4 года назад

      Yeah it definitely would be nice to adjust the primer saying depth.
      The 750 is only an improved 650, I think a 6 station defeats the purpose. Most people only use 4 stations anyway.
      Most people want the cost kept down so a six station would not achieve that.
      Hopefully they can release a new product that suits between the 750 and 1100!

    I've used 550, 650 and 1050 for over 30 years and I much prefer the disc priming system on the 650. It's smoother and far less prone to catching than the reciprocating bars on the 550 and 1050. The only mistake Dillon made with it in my opinion, is they should have just had unused primers keep cycling around instead of dropping out onto the tiny little tray.

    • @HuntShootOffroad
      @HuntShootOffroad  3 года назад

      You can buy a little tray with a hose to route them directly into the bin. Check Entirely Crimson. Or you can 3D print one or check Amazon/eBay, that will fix that issue. It's normally a problem if your swapping between large and small primers and having to change all of those parts over.
