Thank you so much for watching! Let me know in the comments if you find gesture drawing challenging, and if this approach is helpful? Would love to hear your feedback ❤
As an older person who’s “drawn” their entire life wanting to really be able to draw the way you explain movement and structure relationships to form finally sunk in. Thanks for helping this old dog learn new tricks. Great videos thank you each and every time.
Wow! Amazing to hear that, thank you so much Christian! I really appreciate this feedback. Too often we think of drawing as a skill that has a linear progression, but it's about re-visiting and refining things over and over again, like an upward spiral, not a straight line! If you want to read more about Gesture as an approach i can recommend Kimon Nicolaides book, The Natural Way to Draw. Keep me posted, would love to hear how you get on.
As always I leave your video with many things to think about. I draw daily, doing countless 30- and 60-second gesture drawings, but find it maddeningly hard to leave aside the drive toward detail and accuracy. Now and then a drawing feels alive, and with those I am aware of having felt alive while making them. Perhaps that is enough. Thank you. I also enjoy your Substack greatly.
"Now and then a drawing feels alive, and with those I am aware of having felt alive while making them. " ... That's ALL there is!! That is what this is all about and nothing else. I'm soooo excited to hear you say this - I totally get that there are still parts to your drawing that you are working with / struggling with, but believe me, to have those moments of the drawing feeling alive and your connection - that is the compass that you've finally found. Know that those moments will guide you towards a lifetime practice that will only get better. They may not be very often - I can count those moments that I've had myself - and you might still feel frustrated when a drawing doesn't work, but re-orienting towards that feeling each time will never let you down. This is the exact key to unlock the door. So thrilled to read this comment! Thanks for this, and thank you for your support here and reading the posts on sub stack. I appreciate it!
I love your videos, The Natural way to draw changed the way I experienced the act of drawing. But you're always clarifying what he wrote about in his notes I always learn something new listening and watching your gesture drawings.
This is so great to hear Rafael! Thanks for this comment, it really means so much! I'm so happy to know that you understand this approach and how important it is to drawing. It was also the key for me - that's exactly how you put it, it changed the way i experienced the act of drawing. I love that! thank you ❤
@@Drawing-Life yeah it's been a while! Ok where is doggie in this video ? No dog? lol sorry.. Just also to say your recent ones focus on some male models that are fantastic, you're really amazing with male anatomy in my humble opinion, you really capture the weight and power that each one has in a pose very precisely and bring that power into the drawing ! I would say this not a skill, it's a gift, and you're showing us !
@@h.sinclair honestly that means so much to hear, coming from you, I really appreciate this - so glad you "get" this approach! I'm always trying to describe that power in the male form, and I find that it can be a very subtle aspect, and sometimes it doesn't even require to draw the defined muscle shapes, in order to describe or get that feeling across. The new model reel on New Masters Academy has a really wonderful model, and I think he is very inspiring to draw. Oh and thanks for asking for Jessie, my faithful studio assistant! She was chilling at home the last few days haha! I'll have to get her back to work asap!
Thanks for this, it's a very clear explanation of why gesture drawing is such a essential skill to learn. Your drawings are inspiringly beautiful as well!
Thank you!! I really appreciate this, and your support 😊 Glad to hear you found it a clear explanation - it can be hard to fit everything into one video!!

Disegnare con immagini da Grafit studio ritieni che sia come dal vivo o molto simile ?
Non è la stessa cosa che disegnare dal vivo, ma vale comunque la pena di farlo per fare pratica (scusate, ho dovuto usare Google Translate!)
