What Is Nahida? (Hint: Not An Elf) - Lore Trails | Genshin Impact

- This is a follow-up to a theory where I explored the possibility of the Elf-Like characters of Genshin Impact (which are of an unspecified race as of the release of this video) being one and the same as the evolved dragons of Natlan which Neuvillette mentions at the end of Act V of Fontaine's Archon Quest, Masquerade of the Guilty.
Following that theory, many people asked me whether Nahida fits that description. Well, my answer is no since Buer is a character of specified origins as the Avatar of Irminsul... However, if Buer is a Tree Fairy, then what implications could this have (or not have) on other characters that resemble her?

Keep in mind 2 things:
1. I know that the overwhelming majority of you guys never had an issue with what Nahida is. However, a considerable number of comments asked me to clarify this from the previous theory.
2. This is a video to test the waters with quick and simple lore discussions where I share ideas that I have here and there about the game. It is a little on the longer side because I had to throw in a few disclaimers at the start. I aim for future ones to be considerably shorter. But if you do not like it regardless let me know.
The video format isn't too bad at all, but regardless of what I think about it I'll still watch or listen to your vids

it doesn't have to be completely scripted but having a nice flow from one point to another would be great

This for sure. One feeling I took away from this style video is uncertainty. If the goal here was to persuade people to your conclusion, then it needed to be more concise with fewer tangents. If the idea is to use the audience to start a conversation, then I think the casual stream of consciousness works just fine. I couldn't quite tell which direction you were going with this one.
I agree, jumping from one idea to the other is a bit messy. Highlited, organized thoughts flow better in my challenged brain

Regarding Klee and Alice. I thought that I could remember that Venti called them elves in some event, but couldn't remember where. Now I've found the exact quote and it was different that I remember: "A mother and daughter, both with long *elf ears* and the most amazingly adorable personalities." A very strange phrasing and the only possible reason for it can be that they are indeed not elves. So you are probably right.
Yea, I think there was a similar discussion in another video
"elf ears" but stopped short of just calling them elves. The wild thing is that Venti, in the past, prior to becoming a god was also referred to as, "the elf" iirc.

Ei and Makoto are probably a yokai pair of wooden slippers
Rukkha/Nahida is probably a tree fairy/elf
Focalors is an Oceanid, Furina is a successful human transcendent
Murata(??) is probably a dragonoid
Tsaritsa is probably a Seelie(??)
I thought Nahida's origin is pretty clear in Archon quest.., she's originally a twig from Irminsul which hasn't been corrupted by forbidden knowledge, saved and given form by Rukkhadevata? She even claims to devolve into single leaf/ grass if she exhausted most of her powers (? I don't remember the line, it's on 2nd chapter of her story quest)
It is not so much its origin but what this implies at the level of Lore of Genshin Impact and even at the level of the entire universe today, we are talking that rukkhadevata was possibly also created and most likely it was the same fans who made her in her image.
But this also implies that in GI the knowledge and management of the irminsul is at a level so superior to all other worlds (games), given that the irminsul is basically an imaginary tree, something that for other worlds is something little known.
It is possible that GI is so advanced that it leaves the other worlds far behind.
She can be more than just a branch
Like trees in real life, take a branch from one tree and plant it, will it be the same tree or different one ? It's the same tree, but with different fate, so it's both - the same and not the same at the same time ? (sorry for too many - "Sames"...😁)
Usually I call chars like Al-haitham "placeholder" or "embodiment". it's like Nilou is the representation of Nabu Malikata.
I think there's more to allogenes than originally thought. I used to think people calling Ningguang a reincarnation of Guizhong were insane and now I think there's something to it. Especially now that we know Celestia controls fate and constellations to some degree, I think that there are certain humans that are bound to allogenes of the past and this is how the Heavenly Principles wants to change fate to make themselves more powerful.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks In some of Mona's astrology lines, she mentions certain characters being "a [constellation name]," in the same sense an astrologer in our world would say someone is "a Scorpio" or "a Libra." This suggests constellations are not exclusive, or at least, they're not exclusive to just one person throughout history. People who share constellations may share destinies, though they express them in different ways.
As an example: Deshret pursued wisdom and became a leader. Alhaitham pursued wisdom (the truth about the Akedemiya's corruption) and became a leader (acting head of the Akedemiya after the corrupt ones were overthrown). Deshret became corrupted by forbidden knowledge, Alhaitham became corrupted by forbidden knowledge.
"But wait!" you say. "Alhaitham only PRETENDED to become corrupted as a ruse. Deshret actually was corrupted!" Yeah, but remember what Focalors proved: You can fool fate, as long as you go through the APPARENT motions. Focalors PRETENDED to do nothing to stop the prophecy while ACTUALLY taking steps behind the scenes to subvert it such that it happened on her own terms. Alhaitham PRETENDED to be corrupted by forbidden knowledge, which may have been enough for fate to go "OK, sounds right, I'll check that box off your destiny."
TL;DR: Multiple people can have the same patterns of destiny, but they only have to vaguely follow them to satisfy the fates ordained by the false stars. If you know your own destiny, you can control how it happens to your advantage.

On Raiden, on "When Thunder Strikes" line she states she's "the most supreme and terrifying incarnation of lightning in the whole of Teyvat", which aligns with what she says in the cutscene about her being the shadow to Makoto's lightning. Anyone who knows more than I about this please correct me, but I believe what Ei and Makoto are has to do with the whole concept of the Shinto religion where everything has a soul: nature, natural phenomena, daily life objects, etc (animism). Another example in game, but a lot less powerful, is the hagoita lady from the Inazuma event (Hanyuuda Chizuru). Which goes hand in hand to your theory of Ei and Makoto being very powerful youkais, I think it's all connected. The Sumeru glider describing her as "a wooden thing made of electro" might be refering to the fact that Ei's current body is a puppet - if the puppet's body literally made of wood but reinforced by elemental power, or just a little nod to Pinocchio there, it's up to debate but both are valid, I guess :P
either the literal incarnation of lightning like nahida is incarnation of irminsul, or the raiden twins are some sort of twin youkai in japanese culture maybe.

I think Nahida and Rukkhadevata manifest to look like elves because the Irminsul and Dendro are a magical tree and plant magic and fae-type creatures are often associated with magic and plants/forests, which mostly works from a design perspective but depending on how the world is it could work from an in-universe perspective as well
What if the elves were erased from Irminsul and the Dodo Tales, the Dodo Clan, etc. are an allegory similar to the one Nahida created for the Wanderer?
I mean, since you asked for feedback regarding this style of video. I personally like it a lot (not saying this to be a sheep). The reason I find it nice is because like you mention towards the end, we can just leave it on the background while we do other stuff and some of the things you mention are interesting.

I think a midway between the scripted videos and this would be really nice- maybe having bullet points of what you want to talk about to give it more structure. I think your enthusiasm in the scripted videos shows more and helps in making the video exciting and interesting-- plus its fun to listen to a person talking about something they love and that was missing for me here. either way, im very excited for the next video!
about the content of the video
nahida or elves with downturned ears being tree fairies makes sense to me, we have other types of fairies afterall-- spring fairies aka oceanids, "light" fairies aka seelies etc... its also worth noting that the cycle of life of nahida and the aranara is the same, and its suggested it is also similar to paimon which could be why she appears as a child. Perhaps this is because they all come from a "fairy" origin race.
to challenge the idea, Rukkhadevata wasn't born into the role of the avatar of irminsul like egeria, and deshret was offered the gnosis and likely authority over the irminsul before her. This could mean that the process of becoming an avatar of irminsul is unlike becoming the heart of the primordial sea-- perhaps its alteration of your constitution? or maybe it just links your consciousness? it doesnt necessarily contradict the idea that they are tree fairies which is awesome but its something to think about. and its also so weird that deshret was offered the gnosis before rukkha, perhaps he had an innate authority over irminsul.
I love the highly edited lore videos. I dont mind these new videos either.
Oh also, every archon so far (besides zhongli and rhukkadevata as we don’t know what their original form was) were originally the purest for, of their respective element. Nahida is the branch of irminsul, which I’m pretty sure is one form of the purest form of dendro, venti was a pure elemental being, a wind spirit, ei and makoto were lightning, egeria was literally the heart of the primordial sea, which means she was water, and the oceanids were made into humans by her using the primordial sea, and focalors was one of those humans, making her water as well.

Yes, there's also the fact that the archons have the dragons authorities. Ultimately, we still await the origins of the gods, supposedly they're beings created by the shades of matter from Celestia and or the light realm now Teyvat.
My untrained theory is that Khemia and ancient alchemical derivatives is either the Celestial art of creation or based on it and it is not completely compatible with that which is the dragons Primordial nature. Which is why certain humans and gods alike are cursed. It's partly based on a note which talks about Khaenri'an developments and the description of the Aeonblight Drake.
This format can definitely work, but it has to be more structured. It isn't enjoyable if the same point is mentioned for the third or fourth time.
If you manage to make it compact and moving from point to point, then I like it.
This evolution talk makes me think of Nahida's second story quest where there are elemental beings who appear to look like fungi. The first elemental being explains that they undergo drastic changes in time to better fit in the environment. Later in the story quest Nahida literally shapeshifts into a fungus. "Sometimes, things appear as other things, but aren't the same thing".
My HC is that makoto and Ei where born when a strong lighting struck a sacred tree :p
For me, I find this really appealing to me because it doesn't require you to do a lot of work, and I think that it better connects your ideas with us.

I like lore rambles and it works really well for addressing comments too. I do love the edited videos the most but since it doesnt affect them even if you didnt like them I dont see what the big deal is.

First comment on this channel I wanted to say that I like this kind of video. With only one main idea to detail it is much easier to follow you. A problem I have with your usual videos is that you have a lot of very interesting things to say but there is so much in one video that it becomes hard to follow and I end up forgetting a good amount of the points you made until I rewatch it. I don't know if you heard about that but Ashikai talked about you in a recent live and she kind of made the same point.

Kusanali is the name of a Bodhisattva who was reborn as a tree sprite, straight up Rukkhadevata is the Buddha reincarnating into Kusanali, who looks like a tree sprite with the "elf ears".
i actually like this type of videos more than usual ones. its much more comfy, calm, without overly dramatic tone. its very comfortable to listen. although maybe some list of themes in video would be nice. not full script, just some highlights. it would make it easier to keep up for people who doesn’t know about lore much.

As a mix in with your usual longer scripted lore videos I like having these smaller quick-point videos in between just to keep the gears turning. I also primarily just listen to the video so whats happening on screen doesnt matter too much to me
Dude dragons and elves are two different races neuvillette only says that the dragons in natlan have settled a type of coexistence not that they are half human half dragons it’s kinda like how the people of Fontaine have reached coexistence with the melusins he never mentions anything about them, living human lives as for nahida her design is heavily inspired by elf and fairy styles because of her title as the god of wisdom, and being a god of dreams, she represents basically a fairytale of kids imaginations plus she was born irminsul which was said to be a magical tree, so why wouldn’t she look like an elf? Nahida has no connections to actual dragon features just because you have some crack theory about the elves and the dragons being a similar race, which is completely wrong also just because another game Hoyoverse made has a character with the elf ears with the dragon formed does not mean that they’re going to do the same with Genshin especially since we already have a playable dragon, who doesn’t have hears remotely similar to the elves also if Klee Alice and lansan our elves, which they very obviously are that doesn’t mean that nahida wouldn’t be an elf yes, she is not a true person from that race by each are from every nation is a god of some Unique creature only from that specific land venti is a god spirit zhongli is a adeptal god ei and mokoto are Yokai nahida and ruhkkadahvata are fairy elves gods like the aranara and egeria and folcalore are oceanide gods

Btw, I did not get exactly when Irminsul appeared in Teyvat ? Was it there before The First Who Came rule, was it before the war with the Second Throne ? If it was "planted" by the First one, may it be then connected to Authority, Power of original Dragons ? So may Nahida's similarities then be the consequence of that connection ? Or even if it was there before the First or Second, I mean when it was the world where Dragon Lords ruled, still, may it be connected to Dragon's Authority, Powers, Constellations or whatever and that makes Avatar of Irminsul also look alike Dragon-humans (or whatever we call them....) ?
P.S. - I like both formats, as prepared and managed videos, same walk-n-talk videos too, I'm more about the topic they cover.
P.P.S. - Remember "The power of time accumulates slowly and goes unnoticed" ? As Apep creature said to Nahida "Power of Time" required to Shapeshift, to change to another creature and Nahida as an Archon had enough of "Power" to do that.

The format is good, imo having some sort of a guideline, with something already developed would be moree... efficient I guess, because if you go back and forth, most of the viewers can get confused. In my case I got what you were saying, but had to sync with you on another level of dendro😂

I like the idea of shorter and more casual videos and it would be cool if you continued to start recording the moment u find something cool to share or to point out. Yes Nahida is an exact copy of Rukkhadevata but with her own ego and personality.
so rukkhadevata is also an avatar of the irminsul.
and following the hoyoverse lore where nahida is a version of teresa, and since nahida is a copy of rukkhadevata it can be said that rukkhadevata is also a version of teressa
and Teresa in her story was born as a clone of Karen Kaslana.
I could conclude that rukkhadevata was created based on the same fanes to administer the irminsul independently, almost as if it were a "shadow" of it, hence its importance within the lore.

I wouldn’t say i hate it but im a visual learner so if u just put pictures of what ur talking about will help me understand better bc i like ur other high detailed videos where u put pictures of the gods and myths it’s really interesting!
If you use written talking points this could probably be 10 minutes instead of 20, which would be awesome. I'm still here for the longer videos, though.

Nice video! I don’t necessarily dislike this format, but as someone with massive ADHD it’s definitely much easier to follow scripted content. More casual formats like this typically have some backtracking, repetition, skipping around etc that can be a little hard for me to keep up with. But I love listening to you so I would definitely still watch more videos in this format!

Another thing i will mention: if your making short vids on a specific point, the wandering, rambley style makes me never want to watch it more than once. Which is to say, i watch lore discussion vids over again to review things, and it's a hassle for me to sift through 15mins of off topic to find the on topic points
You don’t need to script everything but having images clips that illustrate your words will be great
17:11 Actually, it isn't Kevin's Honkai Beast form name, it's the name of the Honkai Beast that had it's genes and organs transplanted into Kevin through the surgery. His Beast Form is called "Diabolos", I guess.
I do like this type of video. Maybe if you try to make a rough script or key points you want to talk about so it'll be easier for you to convey your thoughts will make it better.
On the topic of Nahida though, maybe if irminsul is to be cut or destroyed in any way she will become the new irminsul? She IS literally made from a branch of irminsul so maybe? Alot of plants can be regrown from a branch or a cutting from the original plant.

High-effort mega-edited videos aren't my thing, cause i mostly listen to theories on a side-tab while working. Vlog-type musings and rambling theories are great.
Regarding Nahida's appearance. She still could be half-tree spirit, half-dragon, as an admin of Irminsul, which might as well be made partially from the dragon sovereign power stolen from Apep.
I really like this kind of videos! Annnd I would ask a question that maybe fo you lore experts is stupid, but through all of this video intrigued me... Isn't it comproved that Rukkadevata IS A SEELIE? The very last one of it's kind indeed... And ALSO Irminsul's avatar... How can thise two informations coexist? It just doesn't make sense to me. But at the same time... Could this be that the elve ears are the last bit of characteristic that remains on all of those characters, independently of their current origin? From Alice to Klee, to Laila and Nahida? Please if someone could elaborate I would be very grateful! ❤🙏🙏🙏

I think Nahida may be classified as a tree Fae or Tree spirit or Tree Nymph(Dryad)
I enjoy a more freeform flow, but a lot of rambling and disorder can get in the way of that, ngl. So, as others have said - with some slightly better organization (bullet points or whatever) and a bit more concise, it'd end up being quite nice.
I don't enjoy the amount of repeating and chaos, but I wouldn't have you not upload these, just because I wouldn't enjoy that, especially given it doesn't get in the way of your other stuff. So even if I weren't to necessarily watch em cuz of that, I'd still see no issue with you uploading em for others who might still enjoy it despite that.
Well we also have to think about the heart of the primordial see right? We don't know what Egeria was. But we do know the focalor was an oceanid, who was them turned fake human like all other fontainians and then turned into a god. So nahida can very well be more than just the avatar of irminsul just like focalor was more than the heart of the primordial sea ( or if neuvillette was the actual heart he was still more than just that, he was a dragon funnily enough)

You made some really good points, but I'm not really sure that I like this video format. I don't mind it being unscripted, but I think it'd be better if you add structure to the flow of ideas. Because for some of this video, I got lost with all the things being just thrown around here and there. Still a really good video though.

What is Klee? Klee is a child of Alice and an unknown father.
But we do have some idea about what Alice can be. Alice was mentioned in Enkanomiya (but we can't be use it's the same person), so I think she is the tree spirit from the "Parable of the Tree". And her husband is the gardener.
Alternatively, the Parable of the Tree could be the origin story of elf-eared people like Alice, Klee and Layla. With each cut branch from a tree becoming a separate person.
Was not it a Rukh bird (in English more commonly known as Roc bird) who helped Solomon to build the temple by bringing him a piece of wood which was decorated with silver rings (the silver rings which were given to Judas as a payment for betraying Jesus) in Kebra Nagast ?

@@kotarouinugami1745 I think we should not look for a bird specifically in Genshin for that role, but the name - Rukh/Rukkhadevata, but even if technically she was a fairy of a tree and Malikata more fits the role of a gardener, but Amun Al-Akhmar was actually inspired by Solomon and exactly Malikata gave him a knowledge and then exactly Rukkhadevata build ring temples and infused them with divine power of life to protect world from spreading the infection of forbidden knowledge for the first time.
But as the Hoyo loves analogies and to tease one stories with use of other, it also may be an analogy on other and even older story.

I like the shorter length videos, however, you seem to be wasting a lot of time by rambling. It might help to (not so much have a script but) have bullet points to follow to trim how much you wander on one point.

i dont want to sound rude but venti taking a form of his friend means that archons can look however they choose.
nahida is literally confirmed to be a tree branch, we even get one after finishing the archon quest. paimon also pointed out that if she starts using too much of her power she will shrink even more and return to that.
so basically she can manipulate her looks and appearance (as shown when she turned into a fungus) but maintaining that "form" of her uses too much power so she cant lets say revert back to an adult like rukkhadevata.
since she now believes that she is rukkhadevata, in theory she should want to look like that.
now about the elf ears rukkha probably thought they were cute so she just chose to have them, while nahida being her carbon copy now has them too💁♀️
Im all for this impromptu 'shorter' videos, but please edit and cut out any unnecessary ramblings or parts where you keep asking "what else, what else", don't need any of those. Keep it just about 10/below 15 minutes and you'll be golden.
hi! c: here goes criticism: personally I don't like this style of video bc: 1) it's hard to focus on what you're saying and when I see a gameplay-like screen, 2) video takes too long time bc of things like: leading screen, running from place to place, etc. 3) I can't help but assume you're being distracted by game itself and have a hard time going to the point

l'm not a fan of this style, personally. As other people have said, if it had some more structure, it would be smoother to follow, and I find that the most important part to me!
I don't mind the format, but sometimes the commentary goes... far from the point, and I kind of lose track of what is being discussed.
