Fun fact: This picture should be incorrect according to the book's lore. The only time that Artyom roams through the surface it's at night because his eyes are too used to the dark lighting of the metro and seeing too much sunlight with his eyes could blind him.
Yeah in the books traversal at day was impossible, not only would you be blinded by the sunlight but much more of the mutant population was active during the day, its the opposite in the games.
@@caesarvalorvmsheevpalpatin8755 Also, in the first two books you can explore the surface only with an anti-radiation suit (NBC suit), while in the games everyone with a gas mask and a Geiger counter can do it (it's better if you include also an AK-47 in the equipment 😁) In Metro 2035, however, Glukhovsky changes some elements of the setting, and Artyom goes back and forth more easily from the surface.
Actually in Metro 2035 Artyom doesn't go back and forth easily, as he is considered mad by others and he gets radiation poisoning. The air is surely cleaner as if he did the same a few years before he would die rapidly, but it isn't as clean as you say in my opinion

Love this franchise, really makes me realise the things I take for granted on a daily basis, family, friends, tasty hot food, cold fresh water, clean safe air, untattered and stylish clothes, a motorbike, the beautiful sky (especially at night) etc. When this song kicks in after rescuing the child it always makes me tear up.
