AUs do the same.The rear hand brake pivots need antiseize, or the handbrake lever constantly need adjustment as you are doing. If not they stay on and wear down causing the need to constantly adjust the handbrake cables.

my handbrake only works when im facing downhill but not uphill, would this help or should i adjust it at the shoes
Hard to say mate but doing this is definitely worth a try first. No need to take any wheels off or anything like that.
