    quick shifting is the best way by far to handle this type of transmission, I tried the "power shifting technique " and yeah the Mt82 don't like that so much,, especially at a sticky track, so i tried quick shifting it, and yes finally ran a best of 12.6 @116mph , 60 foot sucked but not bad for a bonestock coyote, and yes no"tune" i mean "Stock" so it definitely comes down to how you treat the mt82,

      @@jamesvwalker268 I wouldn't say there is no need for powershifting. If you are good at quick shifting there will be very minimal difference BUT powershifting is still ultimately the quickest way and will give quickest ets. However on something like an mt82 it's prob best to just quick shift if you have a more stout trans like a 6060 or magnum or t56 you can powershift but you gotta be quick with it. If you can't shift fast don't try power shifting. Sit there car off and go from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 as fast as you can move the shifter. That is how fast you should be shifting while driving if powershifting. If you aren't shifting that fast don't try power shifting. I can do both real good I've got over 20 years experience driving nothing but manuals even my dailies have all been manual I'm pretty good at it but it takes alot of practice and you gotta have good coordination. If you can't multitask it can be difficult I'm sure. Your arm and leg have to be moving simultaneously not one then the other. There shouldn't be any hesitation between shifts. When you hear someone shifting it should almost pretty much sound like an auto if you here a little hesitation or space between shifts it ain't fast enough. Few people can do it these days and the numbers are getting fewer and fewer. The autos are quick now so everyone just goes the lazy way and gets an auto so it can do all the work for them. I love the art of driving manual both normally and spirited there is nothing like it. If you got the driver mod you aren't leaving much performance on the table not being auto ecspecially from a roll like typical street races.

    Finally someone makes a video about this issue. Most people don't know how to drive. I've owned my fair share of Foxbody mustangs and the T5 wasn't that bad as long as you knew how to drive. I read all the time that the MT82 is shit. when has a mustang ever come out that you slap a supercharger on it and make 670hp and the trans be able to take it. Never, that's when. A T5 with some power behind would turn to shit after a while. To have a stock MT82 and make that kind of power with that amount of mileage goes to show that the trans is good. I have a 2016 GT with the MT 82 and haven't had an issue yet with 15,000 miles on it. Good video.

I currently own 2012 5.0 for almost half a year now and still baby the transmission until I get the hang of it. I had a 2001 GT and did break it before long ago. Great video!

      Right I thought that was a given like duh why would you redline your motor in between shifts.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 года назад +4

      @@BIGWILL0715 powershifting don't redline your motor between shifts if you shift fast dude lol. He's talking about when you try powershifting and don't shift quick enough (like most). I can powershift the hell out of my 6060 in my 07 gt500 no issues. Never missed a gear (mgw shifter) never bounced off the limiter none of that nonsense. Powershifting can be done with a more stout trans if you can actually shift fast enough its fine I've done it for years. To keep the mt82 alive ecspecially at high power levels its best to quick shift like he was saying in the video. I can powershift or quick shift good I do both. When I'm going all out or racing I usually powershift. When I'm just doing fun street pulls I don't always powershift I'll quick shift. You gotta be quick with the shifts or don't try powershifting. Move the shifter car off quick as you can through the gears that is how fast you should be shifting while driving if you're attempting powershifts if you aren't shifting that fast don't try it you'll bounce off the limiter like Alex was saying. Arm and leg has to be moving at same time.

    I’ve never power shifted mines lol and people mistake it for an auto all the time!! I’ve never power shifted any car actually a proper quick shift is all that is needed and is so less stressful.
    Preload the shifter(meaning have light pressure on the shifter as if pulling it to the next gear) the second you come off the throttle and transmission will slip into neutral doing this which means your only clutching as you row into he next gear. It sounds like allot but you can see how it pops off really really quickly cuz the second you lift off the throttle is a millisecond before you depress the clutch(always) to the floor in a quick stomping action while simultaneously rowing into the next gear and waallaaa! Lol seem less shifts people will think it’s an auto if your doing it right!

  • @erickraus1256

    @Alejandro Flores I shift very fast as well and I have noticed (with two different MT-82 vehicles) that if you shift fast enough into 4th, you will trip up the computer and it won't know what you did. When this happens, the rpms will stay at the current value and will do nothing while you have the throttle down - you have to lift off the throttle and then get back into it. I have lost a few races because of this. Have you, or anybody else experience this problem? Motor Trend, or Car & Driver (I don't remember which one) actually talked about this in one of their '15 Eco Boost reviews.

    Yeah, You don't want to power shift this trans seriously.. I am just guessing from only 4 months of ownership but it feels like it needs, Like most people say, a Clutch line, and a better quality of clutch for sure.. I want want my clutch to feel smooth like it could have come from factory but strong enough to handle 700 wheel JK.. I am looking to keep my car legal but I still want a Supercharger and I accept slightly over 600ish wheel is about all you can get safely for daily use with stock headers and cats on 93 pump, and I am fine with it. I not looking to spend a ton but screws are a must have down the road for me..

So many grip the shifter hard like their life depends on it and direct it. 1st to 2nd pull back to the left, 2nd to 3rd let shifter spring over push forward. 3rd to 4th is simple, 4th to 5th push it over to right. I can 100% vouch for the MGW shifter as being a good product. For reference I bought the X-spec with the longer shaft because I didn't want to go too short. I'm far from a novice with a stick and would miss gears with the Barton more than I'd like to admit, but it's actually hard to miss gears with the MGW.

    • @alex244008
      @alex244008 4 года назад

      pretty much if you're gonna shift quick you're gonna have to level out the gas quicker but what's important is to give it the same amount of gas wen you level out as before you were shifting. If you shift quick but level out slow and give it less throttle than before, you're gonna jerk. It really depends on the RPM's if you shift quick, you're not giving the car enough time to fully bring down the RPMS which in turn would require more gas so it doesn't jerk

    the t5 is fine its not super strong and theres alot of after market parts to help that but they wouldnt break that easily my motor isnt stock and its fine even with the old nwc 2.8 v6 t5 i had to use because i needed something for the time being (but i have a wc now for my 85 firebir)d could shift any gear fast you just cant shot load them into gear you gotta get the throttle time between shifting right and the wc 2.95 1st is the best idk what problems you mean

      Alejandro Flores Bro you address all this other shit, but miss a huge issue with Coyote 5.0's. They burn tons of oil. Fck my 2011 TVS goes through a quart every 500miles. But i blast it to multiple 7200rpm runs every day. Still it shouldn't burn a quart every 500miles. I run a Moroso oil separator which keeps intake clean, and my spark plugs are spotless and dry. Have no clue why these things drink oil, maybe you can fill me in.

    Good vid, the only problem I have is the choice I made regarding the fluid. I went with the Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90. The fluid is fine when warm, not so good cold. When cold I have to go from 1st to 3rd until it's warmed up, after that shifts great. I'm curios what fellow Mustang owners run in their mt82? Anyone use the Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30? Royal Purple synchromax? Now I wish I had just left the Ford fluid in there. Your thoughts?

    Is there any way to raise the engagement point on these stock clutches? On my old 2v it engaged at the tip of the clutch so I could bang gears no problem and damn near make it sound like a dual clutch, but with these guys engaging all the way at the bottom it definitely slows down my shifts.

    I have a s197 2012 Coyote. What do you think about 373 gears? That is what I chose for mine off the showroom. I am almost full bolt ons and was looking into clutches , to replace the stock one. I am around 67k miles. You made a comment about SPEC clutches that raised and eyebrow. I am going for longevity with my build and you mentioned those were rough on MT82s. I have never heard this and thanks for sharing the info.

      I disagree. My friend has a bolt on 04 mach with the 3650 and even with bad syncros on 2nd it takes all the abuse we can throw at it like a champ. We actually have half-assed tried and CANT break it. (Cheaper to buy a new one than rebuild the current one) Ive even done several passes with the thing and i cant shift for shit

      That’s quite an accomplishment. Honda transmissions probably have some of the weakest synchros on the planet. At least the older B and D series transmissions did. You could almost never find one that didn’t grind going into third and fourth.

    I've got the Barton short shifter with the two post bracket, and it's a lot heavier of a shift from stock. I'm hesitant to push too hard to get the car in gear (don't wanna burn my synchros) and I think that my timid shifts are causing the gears to nibble a little going into 2nd and sometimes 3rd or 4th. I've only got 60k and it was stock and lady driven before I bought it. Should I be unafraid of shoving the shifter harder into gears, or do I have a bigger problem?

    Picked a random video to ask this because i respect your opinion on coyote tuning and thought of you while contemplating tuning etc. Long story short I have a road race s197. I'm building a naturally aspirated voodoo/coyote/mmr based build with a dry sump etc. As far as the computer is concerned should i even bother with a standalone computer system? Is the stock computer going to cut it in my case? I would like to retain OBDII compliance. The build is just going to be very custom.
