If Nintendo doesn’t take that path, it will be a very poor decision. People kinda put up with having to transfer their Wii digital games to the WIi U for a buck or two. It was the first time we were rebuying those games. And the Wii U was such a failure, everyone was just hoping Nintendo would make a system that was a success. And Nintendo took that opportunity to reset. But if they ask their customers to rebuy everything again and to wait for legacy content to trickle out, I think it would backfire big time. Snes actually came out in 1991 Gents. The trend is that Nintendo’s best selling consoles go six years while the lower selling ones go 5. That is why the Nes and the Wii had such long life cycles. They were the two best selling Nintendo consoles for forever and Nintendo took their time with getting that next Gen hardware together and ready because they were still selling systems and games. I see the next system coming next year at the 6 year mark.

Great comparison between the DS and 3DS with the switch and it’s future successor. A lot depends on what Nintendo does next. Many people seem to believe the switch will stick around for a while but they’ll do an enhanced version, kind of like the 3DS and new 3DS. I think the switch might be my favorite Nintendo console due to the flexibility of gaming with the hybrid concept. It’s also gotten me to go out of my comfort zone and try games I normally wouldn’t. I think nostalgia will probably make it pretty collectible.
I wonder if Nintendo could make a console that can play Famicom, NES, Game Boy, Super Famicom, Super NES, Virtual Boy, N64, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U and Switch games?
2024 will also be the Gameboy’s 25 anniversary perfect timing for a new handheld release along with adding GB games to Switch Online and possibly free access to GB games for everyone who buys the new console for a year before subscribing.
So the Console R&D cycle may be stretched a bit because of all the chip shortages. I can easily see the Switch getting an 8 to 10 year run. This way Nintendo can keep production costs down for the next console.
I got to say that the Nintendo switch is very cool. We own a Wii and a Wii U and my kids and I really like playing them. I think Nintendo really needs a new home console that shows up and compatible with all of there games and do some thing like a vr console maybe. That would be sweet. Great video guy’s.
Inet sure if you guys knew this but once you're subscribed to Nintendo switch online service especially being subscribed to all of them when you get the expansion pack to also play N64 and Genesis you don't need internet connection to play those online services you can take it away from Wi-Fi and still play NES SNES N64 and Genesis games without worrying about Wi-Fi those work without Wi-Fi because I know somebody that showed me that those do work without Wi-Fi because he was away from his house and he showed me as long as you're subscribed it will work regardless
Moores law is dead did a vlog awhile back about how Nintendo bought up the remaining chips that can be used to make switches and that Nvidia won't make anymore of those chips so thats it for the switch. The switch sells about 2 million consoles every month and there was only like 24 million chips left total, I believe Moores law is dead said that at this rate they only have enough chips to keep selling switches until December, and after that they will basically be forced to sell another console
PS4 released 2013 and PS5 released 2020. Switch released 2017, so by 2023/24 there needs to be a next gen Switch. With PS5 pro coming and handheld PCs becoming more popular Nintendo need a new Switch asap and it needs to be more powerful than Steam Deck.
You’re missing one key thing. The 3ds was a modest success. If Nintendo had made another dedicated handheld, there is a very good chance it would have done poorly. It’s because Nintendo fused their home and portable systems into one that they were able to make a splash. In order for Nintendo to continue to succeed, they need to not forget what sells systems: good software. Truth be told, after the first couple of years, Nintendo has allowed indies and ports of last gen games to prop up the system. I just hope they have something left in the tank to propel the next console (because the Switch is already letting up off the gas).
@@GamingOffTheGrid Very true. Though back in the day that was far from the case. In 1996, the year the N64 was released, Nintendo released DKC3, Super Mario RPG, Kirby: Super Star, and other mega titles for the SNES. Can you imagine any gaming company doing that now? No frickin’ way.
Been having a rough week and this video helped me chill out thanks guys! I agree as well they may wait for the new console for games like Metroid prime 4
I would like with “Nintendo’s”next console they also work something out with “Bandai Namco”and “Sega”to bring back there lightgun and arcade Classics. If that happens I definitly pick up there New console.
Have you guys tried playing metal slug co op? Seems right up your alley and there is a bunch of them now for 8 bucks each on the switch. I just started playing them with my daughter. They are a lot of fun.
Depends on whether you believe the switch is a console or a hand held. Yes the magic number for console is 5 years but for hand held the number is very different..
I’d be cool with the Switch sticking around for another 2 or 3 years… but only if Nintendo keeps the bangers coming. In the last couple of years, what have we got? Dread, Animal Crossing, some ports/remakes? Not a lot to look forward to. And in the future? It’s BotW2 and Splatoon 3?? Ugh, I just wish Nintendo kept pushing their developing teams.
Great conversation bros, always enjoy these episodes. I have all the classic Nintendo consoles but haven’t bought the Switch yet, but I’m sure I will sometime within a year or two. Great episode, cheers!
I think it will be like the ds and just be revised with backwards compatibility just like they did with the new Nintendo 3ds that played only those new games and the older games
Nintendo has to make sure their next gen console doesn’t suffer the same effects that the Wii U did with the Wii’s popularity. People are still going to be preoccupied with the switch and Nintendo has to give them a reason to buy their next gen console or else they’re going to just think it’s another switch variant
I believe it’s how old you are, I’ve so much nostalgia for the nes, snes, mastersystem and mega drive (genesis) because that’s how I spent my youth, they’ll always be mentioned when I talk about my favourite consoles. There will plenty of people out there who’s first console they’ve owned will be the switch and what a first console it is for them. I’m sure they’ll look back at the switch as I do with the early Nintendos and segas.
You may have a video for this already but what is your favorite console of all time? I seen your nintendo ranking but what is your favorite console to still play today?
It’ll be switch 2. Same similar form factor, same cartridges, just more powerful. No way they throw away the momentum and switch library. You’ll be able to literally play your switch games on the next console. No way Nintendo do otherwise.
I think the switch greatest strength is how many ports it has from all genres of consoles.old rpgs smups beat em ups.if u don't want to collect retro consoles games an crts.switch is next best thing. Awesome topic keep kicking ass guys
I think Nintendo would have to be NUTS to abandon backwards compatibility for their next system, digital and physical included. Truth be told, they really have no reason to move on from their chosen physical media. It’s essentially just a custom SD card. It has perfectly fine data transfer rates. And if they ask their 100 million plus customers to abandon their digital catalog to move to a new console, that would be very, very stupid. Nintendo is hard to predict but I would argue that if they do start “fresh”, it will backfire massively. So in that sense, I think the Switch will be thought of fondly as it will continue to live on for over a decade. But that’s just my thoughts.
Usually there's two things I'd consider about the longevity of a console that's going out. Is the new console going to be backwards compatible. If so, then why would I need the old console? I haven't even touched my PS4 since I got my PS5. The other thing to consider is how much am I going to care about those old games once the new console is out? Why would I play Smash Bros Wii U when I have Smash Bros Ultimate. How many times have I seriously played Street Fighter IV since playing Street Fighter V. When was the last time anyone ever played Heavenly Sword? The thing is, there's a whole other level to think about with the Switch. On top of whether or not the next console will let me play old games...what will my console gaming be like? What will my portable gaming be like. Will Nintendo be making another console that does portable as well as television based gaming? Will they be splitting it up again? Will they do away with portable gaming all together? I personally mostly play with my Switch docked. But times like vacation or extended stay at the parents house...I still do use the portability feature of the Switch. So I think what Nintendo decides to do with its portable audience to going to be a huge factor in how much longevity the Switch will have going into the next generation.
I sold my PS4 and Xbox One the day my PS5 and Series X arrived on launch day. I have never done that before in my life (being the proud owner of WAY too many retro consoles). For the first time, there was almost zero reason to hold onto the last gen consoles. Maybe in time I’ll realize some things that the PS4 can do that the PS5 can’t. But as of now, everything those older gen systems could do, the next gen can do but better. This was especially true if you didn’t do the mid console upgrades last gen (which I did avoid doing… as it was obvious the next gen systems were going to make those obsolete).
@@leeartlee915 Once all my data was transferred to the PS5 all the licenses were transferred with it. So short of creating a new account, I couldn't use my PS4 even if I wanted to. I just did a factory reset and sent my PS4 to my cousin. I'm sure she'll enjoy it.
Switch missed the mark by not having light gun motion sensor control. House of the Dead was a dud and not satisfying for switch. Yes it sold well, but personally for me there’s only a few games I enjoyed. Nintendos next console needs to be as powerful or more powerful than a PS5 to open more possibilities for third party games for switch availability to ride along their first party titles.
I think the Switch will have a very strong following long after it gets replaced by the…Super Nintendo Switch? I feel it’ll be a system more people will hang on to. I can’t visualize going to garage sales 6 years from now and seeing Switches out in the wild like we see the Wii systems now. it’s no longer mainly kids gaming like in the past, I feel like we live in a unique day and age where adults are blended into that mix more than ever, hence the Switch will remain quite the sought after console to collect for, because who the f* doesn't love Nintendo. Have a great weekend broskis!
Iwata was part of the Nintendo Switch legacy after the Wii U failure. Also Reggie himself was in switch interviews. It's kind of sad how a lot of people can't remember that nor too stupid even realize it. All they do is just blame crap on Shuntaro Furukawa and doug Bowser Even though those two were never the ones that made paid online and it was already planned long before they even became presidents. Also The wiiu itself barely had third party games. What fans need to do is just get their facts straight and remember everything accurately. Rather than listening to misinformation from a bunch of new gen backstabbing weasels.
Maybe I'm going to be wrong, but I think Switch has another 2 or 3 years atleast. It just doesn't make any sense to me that they would be ready to move on especially with how many users were brought in over the course of corona. The way they have revamped online with the new apps, unless this was in preparation for the next console, I just dont see it. But I didn't jump on the Switch until 2020 so maybe it just feels really fresh to me still.
I was thinking today what if it’s a new upgraded version, think DS to 3DS. Something like that I could really see them doing. New model plays everything, last model only plays the older games. Idk. It will be interesting to see what happens. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I honestly never thought of it that way(never had ds/3ds so I was thinking the way they treated consoles), I think that would be plausible for sure. That would be a great console launch, to release Breath of The Wild 2/Metroid Prime 4 like you guys were saying. We will see! As long as the good games keep coming I dont mind either way. Cheers!
Nintendo switch is a hybrid handheld/home console they are going to milk it there will be an updated version in the near future like they did with the (new 3DS XL) games will just run better frame rate/visuals I can see the switch lasting another 3 years Kirby and the forgotten land is an absolutely amazing looking game!!! I can definitely see breath of the wild 2 being released next year in March/spring with the (new switch model)
It's going to be different for everyone. For me, I still have several retro systems to play. Most people probably have an Xbox or PS to supplement it. I was a bit offended by all the full price wiiu ports. A few are fine. And the online stuff... I already bought Punch out five times. Not doing it again. Nintendos approach is I have to start over? And be grateful? No. And to be fair, the mini Nes was impossible to find, as was the SNES. Then I couldn't find a Switch. It was just hammer after hammer. I got not only unexcited but disinterested. If I could buy a Switch now, I probably wouldn't. Once it's retired... I don't think the joycons will hold up for starters. The great games are available elsewhere cheaper or more collectible. Hate to say it, but I see it as a placeholder. But who knows?
Hot take! We agree its a turn off when its so hard to acquire new consoles! They always say they didnt expect the demand! At some point they need to take a chance of having a little too many! People end up rebuying or buy later they would sell! Cheers!

Yall have some very good points that make me think. If I may toss one more variable into this, the chip shortage worldwide is a real thing. They may just use the base they have to wait it out and it buys the switch more years. It's still hard finding a ps5, and a ton of lost revenue. By the time it's in everyone's houses, it may be halfway through its life cycle. Too add on your points, I definitely think this is just the beginning of the subscription services. The next console will be made to run it easier I think after listening to yall. Have a good and thanks for the video fellas
I would love to buy a Switch but I'm waiting to see what Nintendo puts out next to maybe help dip the price on much of the current-Gen hardware. One thing I can definitely say is many of the JRPGS that are released for the system also have a PS4 release (which are usually cheaper) and I end up buying for the system because its more powerful and the graphics are better...
I would hope Nintendo keeps this as the flagship till 2025 , makes little sense to create internal competition from a consumer aspect. Plus theirs so many titles left that Nintendo itself has to release... Metroid 4, BOTW 2 are for sure the Big Dogs. It would be interesting to see what the next console will physically look like however.
It's interesting that Nintendo Japan bought land to build a 12 story building just for R&D. Is Nintendo going to be the real Skynet? Lol Cyborg Marios taking over the world lol.
Pretty sure the switch will live on with a more powerful revision. It’s too successful. Also I don’t see them dumping their online subscription platform just to start over with a new console. It will just carry on with the next console. Just like ps5 with ps4 online and Series X with Xbox one. Long Live the Switch!
So let's say hypothetically speaking that the pandemic effects the gaming industry. Maybe we won't see the next big nintendo console untill... Add a couple of years onto that 5 is my prediction, if not more!
I don't think we will see a Switch upgrade/successor before 2024, the current iterations of the Switch are still selling way to well too introduce a new console that will like have supply chain issues. Also no big patent leaks or secret code (NX, Dolphin, Ultra 64) for a console leaks. I am sure they are developing a new console, but not for at least a couple of years minimum.
Did you not watch this vid? They recounted the top 15 best selling games, most of which are original lol Oh wait Wii U pfp so likely a bitter fanboy. Carry on then.
I think that Nintendo will change only the dock with a better software and you will play it on 4k...I am a Nintendo switch and ps4pro owner too but I play mostly on switch because I love Nintendo 1st party games.. I like sony games too but not so much as nintendos.
I believe once Nintendo releases Breath of the wild 2 switches would fly out of the shelf’s again and they’ll released a switch to go along with it and I believe I’ll beat the ps2 and Nintendo it’s not done with the switch cause they’ll milk that console to death by basically copying iPhone by releasing a new variant every 3 or 4 years here’s the new switch 4K oh here’s the 4K pro etc etc
Great episode guys! This is the quality content I love about your channel and your switch dock decal is pretty fun! - Im pretty sure Nintendo announced a month or 2 ago that the next console will be backwards compatible with switch cartridges. - The N64 app does have its issues from time to time (Mario cart unplayable split screen), but at least the dev's are taking the feedback and making updates to the emulator. Unlike some other company's.....looking at you sony.... - Long term I think the JoyCons are going to be its biggest failure. 20 years from now how many of those are still going to work? At least the pro controller has good build quality so that may help offset for people who dock only.
I am sure the Switch will last another 2-3 years without an outright replacement, though maybe a pro will come out. I’m unhappy with this as I think Switch has always struggled with bad performance in games, games like A Hat In Time play sort of bad on Switch. That’s the downside with a hybrid system - handhelds are small and lack power but they play handheld games so it often doesn’t matter - Switch isn’t MUCH bigger, big enough to impact its handheld use versus PSP, 3DS and such, but it isn’t powerful enough versus PS4 for proper console games and ports from current systems, nor would the a 3DS or Vita be, but those systems didn’t bother. Nintendo’s own games run pretty well but their 3DS games did too, Captain Toad on 3DS was just as good as on Switch, do it hasn’t helped them much in their own games, making a bigger system with a bit more power, however it also hasn’t helped much with other games as many of them run bad, I would prefer often that they didn’t attempt some of these ports. I don’t think the trade up in graphics versus a genuine handheld justifies its gimpy performance of fully fledged console ports, AA and AAA games. It’s also a shame it’s so popular for physical releases as the PS4 release is the version we need preserved. Once Switch-mania dies down, these ports will be undesirable versus the never-released PS4 and Xbone physical ports. Physical release is always superior to digital but without Switch we’d have so many more niche physical PS4 games. To me it hasn’t justified its existence yet, versus other systems. Even the Wii U managed that, though less than most other systems. There’s no game that makes me say “This is why Switch exists”, none that couldn’t be equally as good on Wii U, (New) 3DS (with reduced graphics) or just PS4, Xbone. Like for real all these games would be just fine on Xbox 360....you cannot make equivalent claims the about PSP, N64, 3DS, Vita, DS, NES, an NES game wouldn’t be just as good on Atari 2600, 3DS games wouldn’t be fine on PS2 or on a Gameboy Advance, N64 games wouldn’t be as good on Atari Jaguar, 3DO, even PS1. Doesn’t make it bad in its own right but I want something amazing and exciting and for me that’s not the Switch. When you know what 3DS can do, when you remember the Wii U, it’s not like we’ve gained much, other than docked/undocked hybrid-play functionality, which doesn’t benefit or change the games.
Yeah, it kills me when people say that the switch is the best nintendo console of all time. So many amazing exclusives on nes, snes,n64, and gamecube, meanwhile i cant even count on 2 hands the great "console exclusives" on switch.

I wonder if Nintendo could make a console that can play Famicom, NES, Game Boy, Super Famicom, Super NES, Virtual Boy, N64, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U and Switch games?
i wouldnt put it past nintendo
2024 will also be the Gameboy’s 25 anniversary perfect timing for a new handheld release along with adding GB games to Switch Online and possibly free access to GB games for everyone who buys the new console for a year before subscribing.
that would be cool. dont see nintendo doing it but who knows cheers
Great video guy’s.
definitely could see some vr aspect added for sure. cheers
Time for a snes/3ds extreme console at the top of it's game with third parties too.
that would be pretty dope
The console variants are what collectors will want IMO
We do See quite a few collectors of consoles especially the N64! Its definitely a thing! Cheers!
Very interesting info! Thanks for sharing. Time will tell. Cheers!
I just hope they have something left in the tank to propel the next console (because the Switch is already letting up off the gas).
once they get so far into the cycle all of them nintendo xbox playstation let up because there in the process of thr next console
I agree as well they may wait for the new console for games like Metroid prime 4
glad we can help you chill out. hope things are better cheers
It’s not a home console though it’s a hybrid
I would like with “Nintendo’s”next console they also work something out with “Bandai Namco”and “Sega”to bring back there lightgun and arcade Classics. If that happens I definitly pick up there New console.
That would be killer for sure!
Have you guys tried playing metal slug co op? Seems right up your alley and there is a bunch of them now for 8 bucks each on the switch. I just started playing them with my daughter. They are a lot of fun.
Not all of them but we have played the anthology on PS2 and had a really good time with it. Cheers!
Depends on whether you believe the switch is a console or a hand held. Yes the magic number for console is 5 years but for hand held the number is very different..
well nintendo does call it a console but theyv'e been giving it handheld revisions.
I feel the OLED "was" the 5 or 6 yr cycle system, there gonna milk the the switch as long as possible watch
as well as its doing it probably will get a good run. curious to see what theu do next cheers
Quote the Raven never more!
Boom!
I think it will be like the ds and just be revised with backwards compatibility just like they did with the new Nintendo 3ds that played only those new games and the older games
I think you are dead nuts on with this prediction! Cheers!
They’ve already said the switch is at least another 3 years and the way they made it sound they want to drag it out another 5 years which is nuts imo
Nintendo has to make sure their next gen console doesn’t suffer the same effects that the Wii U did with the Wii’s popularity. People are still going to be preoccupied with the switch and Nintendo has to give them a reason to buy their next gen console or else they’re going to just think it’s another switch variant
Either Switch 2 or a different name. But not something like a U. I agree.
yeah they definitely dont want that to happen again
I believe it’s how old you are, I’ve so much nostalgia for the nes, snes, mastersystem and mega drive (genesis) because that’s how I spent my youth, they’ll always be mentioned when I talk about my favourite consoles. There will plenty of people out there who’s first console they’ve owned will be the switch and what a first console it is for them. I’m sure they’ll look back at the switch as I do with the early Nintendos and segas.
The Switch is the best Nintendo Console of All Time and soon to be the best Selling Console of All Time
its definitely a good console and definitely on its way to best selling
You may have a video for this already but what is your favorite console of all time? I seen your nintendo ranking but what is your favorite console to still play today?
we do have a video series out on this called console madness
It’ll be switch 2. Same similar form factor, same cartridges, just more powerful. No way they throw away the momentum and switch library. You’ll be able to literally play your switch games on the next console. No way Nintendo do otherwise.
you just never knoe whst nintendo will do. they like to think outside the box
@@GamingOffTheGrid as soon as I confidently posted that I remember thinking “crap, it is nintendo y’know”. Oh well, it’s out there now 😄
I think the switch greatest strength is how many ports it has from all genres of consoles.old rpgs smups beat em ups.if u don't want to collect retro consoles games an crts.switch is next best thing. Awesome topic keep kicking ass guys
yeah that definitely appeals to the retro gamer. cheers
New console in 2 or 3 Years
definitely could see it. just curious what they will release next
All the best games on nintendo for fun and graphics
Switch missed the mark by not having light gun motion sensor control. House of the Dead was a dud and not satisfying for switch. Yes it sold well, but personally for me there’s only a few games I enjoyed. Nintendos next console needs to be as powerful or more powerful than a PS5 to open more possibilities for third party games for switch availability to ride along their first party titles.
Yeah lightgun games are very weak foe the switch! They do some other things well! We get what you mean! Cheers!
Dude this is so dumb!!! No joke, yesterday we were literally saying it should be called the “Super Nintendo Switch.” Love it
Iwata was part of the Nintendo Switch legacy after the Wii U failure.
I hate that people just think stuff happenes. It's planned months or years a head of time.
@@ultimatebreak827 Definitely and truthful facts right there
The Wii was 6 years, and so was the 3ds, so what are you guys on?
what are you on
thanks for watching
My Brothers the next Nintendo console is gonna be another Switch simple
Super Nintendo Switch? I think it will follow a path like the DS. The new version will still play the old games etc.
Cheers!
In my last comment from this video I'm pretty sure I meant to say I'm not sure not Inet sure
Experts are now saying BOTW2 can’t fit on the Switch anyway. So unless they come out with a Pro, it will be next gen.
Who are the experts? All I've seen is Digital Foundry, who are certainly no experts lol
Give me a bit, I’ll find the article if your interested.
@@HighFiveGhost50 I googled articles, and sites like IGN and Gamesradar are using...Digital Foundry as their source. Please, show me an expert testimonial, and not some rando RUclipsrs.
@@HighFiveGhost50 (he never came back with the article, which says all you need to know about him as a person)
@@gligarguy4010 wow that is a bit harsh. I looked into it and it was the exact sources you said you already saw. I didn’t waste anymore time on it because it is speculating on the future of video games. It really isn’t that big of deal man.
Awesome video guys! I hope they don't come out with another console, I'm broke lol.
Have a good and thanks for the video fellas
yeah the chip shortage killed the ps5 bro. and your probably right by the time it becomes common the cycle will be half hour. later bro
I need madden and nhl on switch and a Ridge Racer and im good 👍
I would hope Nintendo keeps this as the flagship till 2025 , makes little sense to create internal competition from a consumer aspect. Plus theirs so many titles left that Nintendo itself has to release... Metroid 4, BOTW 2 are for sure the Big Dogs. It would be interesting to see what the next console will physically look like however.
Nintendo probably do cross platform release like Zelda Twilight Princess and Zelda Of The Wild
I don't believe those numbers!!!...nothing beats the original wii
wii is awesome but lots of people got switches
It's interesting that Nintendo Japan bought land to build a 12 story building just for R&D. Is Nintendo going to be the real Skynet? Lol Cyborg Marios taking over the world lol.
Pretty sure the switch will live on with a more powerful revision. It’s too successful. Also I don’t see them dumping their online subscription platform just to start over with a new console. It will just carry on with the next console. Just like ps5 with ps4 online and Series X with Xbox one. Long Live the Switch!
Very good point! We Hope they still to the creative route! Nintendo looks to push the box when they come out with new consoles! Creative! Cheers!
So let's say hypothetically speaking that the pandemic effects the gaming industry. Maybe we won't see the next big nintendo console untill... Add a couple of years onto that 5 is my prediction, if not more!
Definitely could be on to something. Pandemic and supply chain issues will most likely slow a lot of tech unfortunately. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Honestly I don’t think it’s gonna be remembered. Most of the games on it are on most of the systems or just remakes
Did you not watch this vid? They recounted the top 15 best selling games, most of which are original lol
Oh wait Wii U pfp so likely a bitter fanboy. Carry on then.
@@gligarguy4010 why would I bitter with facts.
@@gligarguy4010 I still even use my switch everyday it just won’t be remembered good
with the nintendo name and selling so well people will definitely have stront nostalgia for this in the future
SNES>Switch all day every day lol
Yeah, it kills me when people say that the switch is the best nintendo console of all time. So many amazing exclusives on nes, snes,n64, and gamecube, meanwhile i cant even count on 2 hands the great "console exclusives" on switch.
100%agree
