2 years ago @ Nintendo HQ: "Let's release another Game & Watch USB C handheld for only 40 bucks to celebrate the Zelda and G&W Anniversary!" The present, same location: "Let's release a cheap alarm clock for 100 bucks with *no games* on it!" Do you see exactly what problem i'm seeing now?
I got the alarms, and I happen to sleep on the floor, I put the box of it under the clock to lift it up a little so it is on the same level of my pillow, it works perfectly for me. I am the one that is easy to wake up and lays on bed for a little more time on my phone after I woke up, and the middle level intensity’s option that unlocks after logging into my NSO account works just perfect for me. I wake up easily while Zelda says “Wake up, Link”, I move a little, the music stops, and eventually every few minutes, it make some noise, I move a around a little, and 20 minutes later, I hear the guardian aiming at me, I jumped out of my bed, Link makes a spin attack, the guardian dies. Amazing experience, I won’t need to worry about staying in bed on phone for too long anymore and won’t accidentally fall asleep again while I am in bed on my phone. It is expensive, but the more time I spend with it, I think more that it worse the money.
I have all the Labo sets. They’re neat to mess around with but one of the best things I remember is the build process. Everything just fits together no extra tools required. I think the VR see is the best as it’s the one I’ve went back to the most. I got it before I had any real experience with “proper” vr and it was really cool to mess with. Smash, Mario Odyssey, and Captain Toad all support it but they have their own separate modes for vr. Breath of the wild on the other hand allows you to play the ENTIRE game in “vr”. It’s more like stereoscopic 3D. I actually played through the entire great plateau and then some (in vr). It was neat but very pixelated haha

Maybe the Switch 2 will actually just be called the 9, and have 9 stacked thin separate screens that give a 3D diorama effect to the games. The screens could even go shadow puppet mode and maybe project on the wall in front of you or the ground beneath you? Chaos is pretty good for the soul 🥰

Imagine if they start selling all these smart home gadgets and the Switch 2 end up being a hub for an entire ecosystem. The Nintendo electric grill, Nintendo projector, Nintendo boombox, so you could play games in a pool party with friends lol
I still remembered that "quality of life" device which was planned waaay back then. But after the Switch got huge in some interview they mentioned they are no longer pursuing that (but well... Nintendo is pretty infamous for not being truthful about hardware news in interviews lol)
I picked up the labo vr kit back in the day, i got a good couple weeks of entertainment out of the included software and i could've easily gone deeper with the game editor. Most of the other games that supported it were pretty short, but fun experiences, playing smash matches against cpus, the couple mario odyssey levels, all a good time. I would've played botw in vr, but I picked that up on wii u, so my only experience with zelda vr was when i borrowed a copy from my friend, it was a really fun time

About Nintendo labo... A younger sibling of mine used to play labo quite often. For this reason, we put strap around the vr headset so it could be work like a usual headset. It was quite fun when it worked, but they often needed assistance putting the thing on. They would go for several hours at a time, and usually walk away with a mild headache. It was not adjustable, so very tight and uncomfortable, since it was just a homemade solution. This sibling also complained about neck pains and nose pains from using the vr "headset" for long periods of time. They often played the labo games (?), like the robot game, the kitchen game, those little puzzle games. I tried the VR aswell, and spent at most i believe 2 hours in breath of the wild. It was definitely fun, but not first person like i'd hoped, and i ended up having a painful headache after playing. Also, the cardboard was not that durable. We had to fix our makeshift headset with tape many times.
Also, putting the switch that close to your eyes is not fun. Its like when you try on another persons glasses, that sort of pain in the eyes. You get used to it and the games are pretty fun but not good for longer play sessions
Being a nintendo online subscriber probably helps cut down some on scalping. I picked one up from nintendo's website the day of the announcement and set it up last night.
I actually bought all 4 labo sets. I bought the labo vr one first and it’s actually really cool from an engineering perspective. The way the build comes together and the resistance you feel when you press the trigger on the blaster or when you use the elephant one to draw or move marbles is really cool. It’s really cool to see the joycon controllers use the infrared camera in the back of it to detect reflective tape to orient yourself in the game. Or build a wacky looking bird and wind petal to get some wind when you fly around. The labo games for the VR kit was cool but the best part that you’ll see to all of these kits are the build. The only other games that supported VR was Mario Odyssey which was like 3 lame levels with a fixed camera that you’d move around to see Mario, Captain toad had a few levels (I never played it), and you can play all of Breath of the Wild in VR if you hate yourself. Smash bros supported it later as well but I remember it being fairly limited. Dont play the Banjo Kazoie stage in VR btw. The biggest missed opportunity is that all labo kits have a game maker that’s actually pretty detailed and good but you couldn’t share them online with other people. That and they missed the chance to take advantage of the camera vr creation to do Pokémon snap. The next one I got was the robot for like 25 bucks. The build takes like 4 hours and that was the best part. The game kinda sucks though. The way you need to move your whole body around so the strand in the backpack move a cardboard weight with reflective tape with a bunch of wires is pretty tiring. It does make a cool sound though for every step you take. I bought the Car kit next and the game is ok. It’s like an open world driving game for kids. But you can use the cardboard steering wheel and cardboard gas petal for Mario kart, so I’ve messed around with it quite a bit since this one is the best supported in an actual game. My only complaint with how it’s used in Mario kart is with the gas petal being used as both a gas petal and drift button depending on how low the joycons accelerometer goes. Inside the steering wheel it uses a bunch of rubber bands to give the wheel proper resistance and reflective tape to determine the vehicles orientation which is picked up through the cameras infrared sensor. I have not built the first kit yet but I heard the games are the most limited on that one. Overall though, I think it was one of the most creative and interesting products Nintendo has ever done and I still wish that they’d make more. That being said I’m an engineer so I may be a little biased. Especially since I used some of those extra parts for a few projects in college. The labo stuff eventually got turned into game maker garage where other people could share their game creations but you needed to look up games through number codes. So that was dumb especially since it didn’t support the labo kits.
First visit here, haven't even finished the video yet, but the vibes are so chill, I'd be down to see more of your stuff, banger portrait on the back, the room looks so chill, superficial observations aside ~ Yeah, Nintendo coming out of nowhere and announcing a smart alarm clock that observes your movement and aims to annoy you and possibly trigger PTSD with the Splatoon splatting noises is just peak Nintendo wackiness.
Im so surprised you didnt bring up the 2DS when comparing the DS and 3DS. Wild choice just for an option that's harder for kids to break. Also this is the first video Ive seen of yours and I love your vibe. Def gonna subscribe and watch all your videos. (And hell yeah, another guy who love Animal Crossing)
I doubt it will happen, but I’d want the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Area Zero theme leading into the final fight theme leading into the victory theme from the final fight. Honestly, those games have real potential for some good wake up sequences. I’d also like to see Zelda TOTK which could actually happen since they have BOTW on the base model.
Just found your channel - very well done! Fully agree that Nintendo is an entity of pure chaos. You could give me 1000 chances to guess what nintendo would do next and an interactive alarm clock would not be on my list. I also didn't expect them to a mysterious online playtest program for... something? They refuse to tell us what and that's incredibly confusing to me. They asked the people who managed to sign up (in the seconds it was available) to not tell anyone about what they experience but obviously they aren't going to be able to keep 10000 people quiet? Is this some kind of reverse psychology to get people more interested in what the hell this is? In the end you just kinda have to shrug and say, Nintendo is an entity of chaos - I have no clue what they're thinking or what they're about to do. Everyone is waiting on pins and needles for the switch 2 to be announced and Nintendo just come out of nowhere and say "hey guys, we made a funny alarm clock that makes bing bang wahoo sounds" - that's incredibly funny.
The labo stuff was cool. It was fun to make and play around with, but when you're done you're left with a bunch of cardboard things that take up a whole lot of space. Also, its cardboard so its not super durable and i imagine they would just fall apart after some years of even light useage. (though who would be using these for years?)
It definitely works a lot better when the clock is above the bed I think, I was worried cause mine is placed like twice as far as they say to and also higher, but it has worked pretty well. If anything I'd say it's a bit too sensitive to movement, it would be nice if I could have the alarm take longer to make go away. Most of the complaints I've seen have been from people who have it really close or under their bed (or not high enough). It uses a 24ghz radar for the movement sensor. I hope they update to let us do sleepy sounds for like an hour and not just 5(or 10 if you didn't update) minutes. That and the device not being able to have the alarm functional during a power outage are my biggest minuses, but at least it can be sort of solved with a passthrough power bank. Honestly it works better than I thought it would, but it was still a bit expensive. I just mainly hope they keep updating it with new features and games/alarms. The dev interview they put out about the alarmo is also really interesting. Apparently this thing was in development for like 10 years which is insane to think about.
Non-critically thinking about the Switch 2, I reckon they're gonna ham up the VR capabilities that they tried with labo. It's the only jump I can think of that would be inline with the 3DS and WiiU gimmicks.
Me in Melbourne after getting into much harder games because of Flunderingchipper's video on Blasphemous: a second sign? Sign to take friend of friends offer up to visit the US? No, no, not even for IRL gaming quests would justify leaving Australia for the loud country
i didn't get in! so bummed!! i tried at exactly the moment it opened up and it already said they'd filled all of the positions. excited to see what it is though, sounds like the test itself is ten days away.
What i dont get is, what extra functionality they want to give me with an alarm clock that i wouldnt get using my phone? I can use nintendo music on my phone alarm. I can add music to sleep and a timer. Why buy an extra, very expensive gadget?
Phones in your room are a bad idea since you'd be tempted and able to easily use it, hurting your sleep overall, which is why dedicated alarm clocks are still valuable today; this is incredibly common sleep advice. $100 is probably slightly overpriced, true, but I don't think this is for everyone. I could see this being for: -kids whose parents don't want them having phones nearby -people who don't want to go through with that hassle of placing said music on their alarm (as someone who has done something similar in the past with ringtones, it was easy but still too much hassle for plenty of people) -people who like the sleep tracking feature -people who like more friction to their alarm clocks (having to actually get out of bed to turn it off instead of hitting buttons and forgetting) Essentially, I don't think they're really trying to replace anyone's existing similar setup, but maybe offer an alternative like for the above options as something for a small segment of their audience. Labo sold 1 million units and won some awards, Wii Fit did well, Ring Fit Adventure did well, Game Builder Garage is solid, Lego sets and new movies and park expansions and the museum are on the way - plenty of examples of stuff that's accessible to, but not necessarily for everyone.
@@JaneTheDoe-id2vx phones nowadays have built in sleep mode, which turns the phone to silent mode during a set scheduled time. Mine is between 10pm and 7am, and I have a couple of contacts that don't get silenced in case of emergencies. Do you all don't sleep with your phone next to you, on a bedside table or something?
_"Nintendo is completely unpredictable at all times."_ Tsk... amateur! How come I predicted the 3DS in 2004 -- 6 years before it was revealed? How come I predicted Labo VR over a year before anyone had it on the radar? How come I correctly predicted the "NX" would be a home/handheld hybrid? Broken clock, amirite? 😏
Id consider buying one if it wasnt red tbh. I just really dont like the bright red. I got a sage green and pink color scheme goin on in my room so i feel like it would just stick out oddly :/ i wish they had themed version id kill for a splatoon 2 themed one (can u tell i like pink and green combos lol)
Of course I don't disagree that Nintendo is an entropy machine fueled by wild chaotic energy, BUT, as someone who's been following them since the SNES era in real time, they do seem to switch between two distinct modes, which I very creatively call "winning" and "losing" modes. These are somewhat predictable… if not on the WHAT they produce, at least on HOW good that "produce" is. Nintendo's biggest "winning mode" eras were during the SNES, the DS, the Wii, and now with the Switch. What has been produced in each of these eras? The SNES era gave us the N64 and the GameCube. The DS era gave us the 3DS. The Wii era gave us the WiiU. There's a pattern: when Nintendo is on "winning mode", they get coward, stop going hard on innovation, and instead make products that always follow a formula of making a new version of what's successful now, with a small twist. The N64 is "SNES, but 3D". The 3DS is "NDS, but 3D". The WiiU is a "Wii, but ~confusing~ with a tablet". This is why I can't manage to get myself super hyped on whatever the successor to the Switch turns out to be. Because I "know" it will be "Switch, but [small difference]". Nintendo's best stuff is NEVER "old thing, but [small difference]". Because Nintendo's best stuff ALWAYS comes from Nintendo on "losing mode". Nintendo's biggest "losing mode" eras were during the GameCube, the Wii U, and the early 3DS time. And what has been produced in each of these eras, might I ask? The best things Nintendo has ever put out, that's what! The three best AND most successful Nintendo machines of all time in the post-Playstation world were the Nintendo DS, the Wii, and the Switch. They were ALL greenlighted in times when Nintendo was in deep "losing mode". The Nintendo DS and the Wii were both products of the GameCube era, when Nintendo became the industry's underdog for the very first time. And the Switch is clearly addressing both the Nintendo 3DS shortcomings and, of course, the spectacular failure that was the WiiU. So, yeah, I don't know. I love Nintendo and I don't want to be right on this. I sincerely wish they break this pattern - because, if they don't, the writing is on the wall. Nintendo has inarguably been in the longest and strongest "winning mode" era they've ever been ever since the PlayStation was released. This doesn't bode well for their next machine in terms of it not being disappointing.
honestly, them in losing mode, being more conservative, is likely good for the survival of fan projects. or not. idk honestly they did that dumb shit during the wii u generation where they were not allowing any kind of videos that werent vetted by them
This theory is RAGEBAITING me! First of all, Alarmo released with *no games* on it, despite it costing 100 bucks. 2nd off, its features can also be found via Coolblue on a MOTOROLA for 21 Euros LESS. (so why didn't they just... Make a smartphone) And 3rdly, literally 2 YEARS AGO, we just got a new G&W handheld from the USB C series, for 40 bucks, has 4 games on it-FOUR, and i'm pretty sure that thing ALSO, had an alarm feature. I can't believe RUclips THEMSELVES recommended this video to watch. Heheheh, Watch.
hey, really cool and chill video, first time watching you and i think i'm not the only one, sometimes you need to buy a 100$ alarm clock to make a really cool video
Ok chaos object speculation. The next console will not be a mainline console ie switch 2 that won’t come out until end of 2025 or early 2026. The next console will have all pre Wii Nintendo games on it that makes you play so much time of a game in a console generation before unlocking the next generation. So you have to say beat level 1-1 of Mario on the nes before unlocking snes games.

First visit here, haven't even finished the video yet, but the vibes are so chill, I'd be down to see more of your stuff, banger portrait on the back, the room looks so chill, superficial observations aside ~
Yeah, Nintendo coming out of nowhere and announcing a smart alarm clock that observes your movement and aims to annoy you and possibly trigger PTSD with the Splatoon splatting noises is just peak Nintendo wackiness.
I expected it to have a circular screen... There's always one thing
I've been waiting for this video all day.
the chaos can't be contained
blasphemous 2 physical is fuckin tight
Imagine breath of the wild, you ignore the alarm, and the guardian targeting noises start playing.
Complete and utter side note. Is that a vinyl record of Ride On Time in the back?? The Junko Ohashi song? Frickin sweet! 😎
the vinyl is ride on time by tatsuro yamashita, the junko ohashi track is a cover of this one!
I honest to god thought you had like over 50k subscribers because of how chill you were! I will be watching your videos in the future
I can't see an Xbox Clock being made, because it'd obviously need to have the Red Ring of Death for nostalgia purposes.
Get out of bed. You are asleep and dreaming. We're waiting for you.
First Nintendo patents sleeping and then releases an alarm clock. Humanity is doing well.
Really enjoy your content. Good musical taste too
much appreciated 🫡🫡🫡
This is probably a weird exercise of Nintendo’s to maintain their brand identity of “toy company”
uh i guess this is how i find out about the movement detection functionality after owning the switch for years lol
I only know about it because it was a huge part of their marketing when the Switch was coming out lol.
@@MusicComet yeah who can forget the 1 2 switch eating mini game
I became an Industrial Designer bc of Miyamotos background as one and also Nintendo as a whole. Grinding hard rn so i can move to Japan and apply 🙏🏼
Cahos once went with Minecraft, they released Minecraft for the Wii u with nothing watered down and did a similar stunt with the new 3ds
Really enjoy these video essays! Can't wait for your next one!
thanks! working on a few simultaneously 🫡
This really is such a wild product and I kind of want it just to support their antics
I use my Playdate as a bedside clock haha, I want to make a frog clock app for it
Non-critically thinking about the Switch 2, I reckon they're gonna ham up the VR capabilities that they tried with labo. It's the only jump I can think of that would be inline with the 3DS and WiiU gimmicks.
I honestly don’t get the controversy, if it is actually going to be sold forever then I find it a good product
So, the next switch could be a VR headset
This video is great, I love your content, one of the best around - but I gotta know where that sweaters from
it's from gap!! i got it a few years ago and i love it.
Me in Melbourne after getting into much harder games because of Flunderingchipper's video on Blasphemous: a second sign? Sign to take friend of friends offer up to visit the US? No, no, not even for IRL gaming quests would justify leaving Australia for the loud country
I call it the Nintendo Dunce Cap. You gotta be astronomically stupid, that it wraps around to be smart to understand what they are up to.
it cost 170.63$ here in sweden! (1 699 kr) OMG......
Oh… it wasn’t a dream. I thought I was dreaming or something
Scrolling the comments trying to see if anyone is saying that you look like jack black as much as my brain thinks you do
Are you gonna talk about the other thing? The "secret" NSO online playtest thing they announced?
i didn't get in! so bummed!! i tried at exactly the moment it opened up and it already said they'd filled all of the positions. excited to see what it is though, sounds like the test itself is ten days away.
What i dont get is, what extra functionality they want to give me with an alarm clock that i wouldnt get using my phone? I can use nintendo music on my phone alarm. I can add music to sleep and a timer. Why buy an extra, very expensive gadget?
Because chaos :)
I could see this being for:
-kids whose parents don't want them having phones nearby
-people who don't want to go through with that hassle of placing said music on their alarm (as someone who has done something similar in the past with ringtones, it was easy but still too much hassle for plenty of people)
-people who like the sleep tracking feature
-people who like more friction to their alarm clocks (having to actually get out of bed to turn it off instead of hitting buttons and forgetting)
Essentially, I don't think they're really trying to replace anyone's existing similar setup, but maybe offer an alternative like for the above options as something for a small segment of their audience. Labo sold 1 million units and won some awards, Wii Fit did well, Ring Fit Adventure did well, Game Builder Garage is solid, Lego sets and new movies and park expansions and the museum are on the way - plenty of examples of stuff that's accessible to, but not necessarily for everyone.
what if someone calls you? theyll destroy ur sleep
@@JaneTheDoe-id2vx phones nowadays have built in sleep mode, which turns the phone to silent mode during a set scheduled time. Mine is between 10pm and 7am, and I have a couple of contacts that don't get silenced in case of emergencies. Do you all don't sleep with your phone next to you, on a bedside table or something?
underrated channel
I like Nintendo but their motion controls are famously not great! If the Alarmo didn’t cost $100 I might pick it up.
_"Nintendo is completely unpredictable at all times."_
Tsk... amateur!
How come I predicted the 3DS in 2004 -- 6 years before it was revealed? How come I predicted Labo VR over a year before anyone had it on the radar? How come I correctly predicted the "NX" would be a home/handheld hybrid? Broken clock, amirite? 😏
I think they could be testing the tech to see if it’s feasible. And then if it works implement it to the switch 2. But hey, that’s just a theory.
if the switch 2 home menu doesn’t get this fun as the alarmo im going to pirate their switch games
Alarmo would go hard with warioware ngl
Id consider buying one if it wasnt red tbh. I just really dont like the bright red. I got a sage green and pink color scheme goin on in my room so i feel like it would just stick out oddly :/ i wish they had themed version id kill for a splatoon 2 themed one (can u tell i like pink and green combos lol)
I thought it was gonna be a bit bigger.
The problem for me is it being half of the price of the switch lite.
Make a smartphone)
And 3rdly, literally 2 YEARS AGO, we just got a new G&W handheld from the USB C series, for 40 bucks, has 4 games on it-FOUR, and i'm pretty sure that thing ALSO, had an alarm feature. I can't believe RUclips THEMSELVES recommended this video to watch. Heheheh, Watch.
This is so much fun
Iwata was an amazing person.
I knew this alarmo thing was brendon-bait
Edit: I meant to talk about. Didn't know you would actually buy it 😂
I have all four Labo sets! They’re so much fun.
Nintendo Switch 2 will be the PS5 pro reskinned prove me wrong
yoo i see that tatsu vinyl back there, boutta subscribe just for that
i like it here. subbed !
hey, really cool and chill video, first time watching you and i think i'm not the only one, sometimes you need to buy a 100$ alarm clock to make a really cool video
I usually wake up at 7:30 too 😂 weird
Ok chaos object speculation. The next console will not be a mainline console ie switch 2 that won’t come out until end of 2025 or early 2026. The next console will have all pre Wii Nintendo games on it that makes you play so much time of a game in a console generation before unlocking the next generation. So you have to say beat level 1-1 of Mario on the nes before unlocking snes games.
Can't you just turn it away from you when you want to ignore it?
What was the biggest chaotic-Nintendo decision going from the wii U to the switch?
Going from the gamecube to the wii,
@@L0rdOfThePies?
starting to think nintendo is the supreme of video game industry?
It already has bugs out the box 😂
The amount of over priced pedometers that I have and will continue to buy from Nintendo. 💸💸💸
I will buy it if it has the guardian piano rift from botw
I like how you think
labo was fun!
Can't wait for people to hack this to play doom.
I really need to know if anyone has actually learned piano bc of Labo bc I've been wanting to learn piano for a long time and I will buy it
PS I play Minecraft on the Wii u
