5:26 The fact that the cape doesn't clip through the shield while he is skydiving is so good. It's such a small detail but little things like that do a ton for immersion in the game world.
It's one of my major peeves about animations like this, it's really a minor thing but drives me insane when I see clothes, equipment and hair clipping through each other.
Did I just find someone who plays WoW with transmog PTSD?
@@DJAizakku I'm guessing you dont realize the full scope of preventing this nor coding a full game. :)
@@mybirdsareangry1 no need for a sardonic response, hence I stated it's a minor thing but for me in particular, drives me mad. I love games that allow me the option to hide and/or adjust hair, equips, etc., cause the devs probably had players like me in mind and/or are such players themselves and it's hard to account for all possible scenarios, interactions, ad animations when designing models for characters, outfits, equips, etc.
Shield is floating on his back when walking around, though
Medieval fantasy game featuring a white guy, with gorgeous visuals, multiple blends of gameplay to become a more innovated open world game. This game will get a 4/10 on IGN for sure.
Gorgeous visuals?
*A WHITE GUY?* 😱 QUICKLY CANCEL GAME 🚨
IGN will give it at least a 7
And it will sell probably a few hundred k up to a million on steam and be in the top 5 played games of the whole week, praised by players for it's excellency, and scorned by journalists for the lack of diversity.
FFXVI got an 8
Seems like The Witcher 3 meets "Middle Earth - Shadows of War"
This is what it most looks like to me also.
Such a hot sounding combo
"We have The Witcher 3 at home"
We'd have waves of Shadow of War like games if the Nemises System wasn't patented and avoided
Then make your own video.
This is the shit I’ll put 200 hours into easy, I’m fine with 8/10 games
Not every game gotta be a 10... Nothing wrong with good games. I'll be dropping the same amount of time as well

There is new gameplay that dropped like yesterday. This was the wrong video to watch to get any indication of how this game actually plays.
So, barely better than Concord?
Him saying bdo combat is mid, while praising outdated, garbage WOW combat is diabolical.
Its the nostalgia bias. None of us can escape it honnestly. Theres a bunch of games i'd shill hard to anyone myself just because of the core memories i have with them. In the case of Asmon, there might also be some sunk cost fallacy. Cant trash the combat of a game he played dozens of thousands of hours without somewhat looking like a fool
@@Jugement he either way trash on that game all the time, but I understand what you mean. He might also just enjoy this combat more, I fully understand. But if you don't play the game or fully try to understand the proper combat of the game (which he doesn't. Mashing two mouse buttons is not the way you play BDO combat) and then calling it mid is not a great representation. It is like saying Dante's combat in DMC is bad while you only using two pistols and pressing one button.
I've played BDO and I was even in ManUp with Lacari. BDO combat is mid. it's floaty, ghosty, and a lot like how ubisoft games play. People literally float through grabs and desync galore. In PVE, all mobs break your CCs and everything gets resisted but the resist animations suck.Your character literally freezes when you get resisted and sometimes you get resisted, but the animation still plays. It helped a lot when they upgraded the servers in 2018, but it's still trash. Remember korea vs japan, etc?
@@aznwill12 not saying it is perfect, but let's get real out there. Every mmo combat is sleepfesta. Tap targeting in 2024? Come on dude we need to wake up. Every other mmo combat is absolute garbage in comparison and not even close. There is no thinking, no adaptation, nothing. Just press the rotation buttons in a row 10 times with some twist and win the raid. Not saying BDO combat is amazing, but at the time it was generational in my opinion because it gave to mmo genre something new. However, nowadays and old mmo games don't. They still go for tap targeting sleep festa and not innovating at all. Imagine if FF7 remake combat would be the same as old one without any innovation. It is just outdated. That's why MMOs are dying, they all are outdated and tbh, BDO combat wise and visual wise is still top (for me the best) out of all those MMOs.
@@aznwill12 it is not amazing, but for mmo standards, not even close. And you can clearly see that people play it unlike something like new world which had peak of 20x players compared to BDO (it never reaching these numbers), and now sitting at probably 5x less people playing.
I dont know what asmon is talking about bro the combat looks fire and dynamic. That's what has my attention is the dynamic nature of the combat
Asmongold isn't good at video games. He can't comprehend deep action gameplay mechanics. His brain has been hardwired to soulsborne dodge roll and hit and run tactics.
I also watched 50 minutes and the combat is 10/10. Just need to watch full wideo and not some ign bullshit
It looks good. It doesn't need to be a 10/10 game, it just needs to be fun and engaging to play. Not everything needs to be compared to Fromsoft games.
literally man, i am hopeful tho. From the recent stuff shown it looks like they figured out they may actually have the bones to build a witcher 3 / skyrim types of awesome
He's had some bad takes but saying this has bad combat has to be up there, some of the combo's and grapples look insanely fluid and impactful
His brain can't comprehend BDOs combat no wonder he doesn't like this
Asmon thinks like a Genshin fan
@@singmysin same dude who thinks WOW classic combat is actually good..
Its got flashy moves, but the combat gives you a migraine, with the amount of particles, and camera shakes. May look fun for a couple of fights, but will get old quickly. Ppl who actually play a lot of games can see past the flashy effects, just like how everyone thought Witcher 3 combat looked amazing but turned out to be v annoying in the long run. especially with all those long ass grapple animations.
@@pranayravi9449 i am sure you can reduce those
Souls'esque combat systems flooded the market for so long that people will call any game trash for not copying at least 80% of combat from them. It's time to move on, imo. I dont see no lock on as something bad, but we'll see.
This game's combat looks more dynamic than Kazahn.
Lock on has been around since Ocarina of Time at the very latest. Not a Souls thing
@@SolidSnake240 That's exactly the reason why Asmon dislikes it. He struggles learning the gameplay of any game, but specially any sort of fast paced game. Kazahn is slow and with a straight forward moveset. This game is combo based and fast, therefore, Kazahn is better in his eyes.
@@Greysprunkiyay Blade of Darkness?
@Melontheyoutuber yes but souls-likes have been flooding the market and are the most recent examples
Never learned a single combo in black desert and thinks the combat is overrated...
So true
As for combat, this will most likely have a combat close to BDO, since it's from the same company, and even the same world, and if that's true, combat will be good. The "it looks like BDO" well shit, it's a prequel, of course it looks like BDO...
let's hope combat is not the only good thing about this game, because I've played bdo already
WTF is BDO?
@@capnphuktard5445 Black Desert Online. A fairly good MMO, but it's VERY grindy.
@@kutirevartem8340 The world looks good, I just hope it has good exploration, something like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon type of "hidden" stuff would be nice, will see, I'm definitelly testing the game, no matter what, the combat looks good enough to be worth playing the game.
I also read good things about BDO combat so this is less of a concern for me. The biggest issue I have with the footage we saw is the visual presentation. Too many particles, effects, camera shaking, blur, ... I don't know why so many studios are infested by this kind of visual design where you as the player have problems to discern what's happening on the screen and therefore hampering the gameplay.
This looks amazing idk what Asmond is talking about. The combat is far more unique than most action adventure games I’ve seen in a while. I also don’t want another souls-like combat system right now. I enjoy the GOW/Horizon style combat and now that everyone is going souls-like, it feels like our only option and that option just isn’t for everyone. It’s not bad, it just doesn’t have to be EVERYTHING. This game looks truly unique and amazing and I hope it lives up to the hype.
Agreed. Plus this is their first single player game after BDO. I know that the second game will be even more epic.
Yeah, he is moaning about nonsense.. Hasnt played the combat himself, but he moans about it. Doesnt know the story, but says it will be crap. Doesnt like the particles, the combat is ok, but it doesnt have pawns..
He is looking for things to complain about.
This game look very, very good, in all aspects.
There is nothing like this on the horizon, this is definitely something to look forward to.
@@SubjectiveFunny This game looks terrible to me. Huge red flags, horribly poor looking graphics, mid looking combat. I haven't played it yet but whatever they are doing is not landing for me.
He talking bs ...I bet he didn't see the 52 min gameplay.
To me games looks amazing.
Even in terms of Souls games influence, I'm particularly disinterest in leaping roll dodge combat.
Recently played Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (I know, fairly behind at this point) and I actually really like its focus on block/counter with occasional dodges being the foundation of a combat system.
Rolling around just.... doesn't make sense. If you're wearing plate armor, you aren't going to roll. If you're not wearing plate armor, you're going to get stabbed/skewered/crushed while you're on the ground. Leaning more into blocks, counter/parry design feels more believable to me and I think could build a really intricate combat system around. But then, I'm also a fan of Ghost of Tsushima's combat.
I know other Souls-ish games utilize block/parry a lot as well, but it's admittedly not been a genre I've heavily played.
what you are missing with crimson desert is that it is a vast openworld game that is not only combat focus .... curious how they handle open world
I think Asmon forgets, how well animation canceling, skill combos and overall flow of combat is done in BDO. It has stagnated since 2016 but it was so much better than anything else back then, that it still holds up in 2024.
Another thing Asmon does that irritates me greatly- he thinks the combat is too simplistic and should be more inspired by souls-like games.. BUT.. he is too lazy to learn mechanics from those games, often resulting in barbaric mashing of gameplay and glass cannon builds...
imagine being a souls player and calling other games combat simplistic.

I really don't see why Asmon seems to hate on this game. It's kind of bizarre considering his loved games with less features and polish.
He usually dislikes action type genre games like this.
8:22 What you mean is that Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma have combat systems that are rather weighty and unresponsive, but it's intentional to give punch and meaning to every move.
Asmon unironically called Black Desert's combat mid. Its literally the best combat system of any MMORPG to date. He really has no idea what he's talking about.
Agreed, there is still no MMO that exists that has better combat. Some come close, but none have surpassed it.
The bars not very high when it comes to MMORPGs though, atleast compared to single player games.
Nope the best mmorpg combat had Tera Online bdos combat is garbage in comparisen, its not even close.

It's so crazy to me people nowadays consider a 7/10 trash, and need someone to reinforce their opinion. It's fine to enjoy games that are not "masterpieces" on release. Also you literally can get stuff on steam and refund within 2h if you don't like it. Think for yourself people. Also if anything, this combat reminds me more of a witcher than wukong/elden ring- not everything has to be either high intensity action combat or dodge roll simulator.
My take on it from what ive seen never playing a pearl abyss game:
-Game looks solid.
-Game looks very visually pleasing with its landscapes and towns
-The differing boss encounters look super fun
-The combat looks cinematic and almost goofy (in a fun way)
-The particle effects ground the attacks like the two horned king guy's aircutter attacks look really good.
-The idea of stumbling on large encounters in the wild like Witcher and dragons dogma really excite me
-The idea of taking what worked from other games is a humble one that works.
My critiques:
-The Facial design does not look great or appealing to look at
-The library area looks kinda boring
-I feel like similarly with assassins creed games i fear the open areas will just be collectathons for the cube stuff (the environment just looks like it will be there to look pretty. I would like to buy items maybe from a stall or protect one from a goblin raid or something) I would like every area that I come across to be interactable in some way like stumbling on a town execution, A wagon being robbed, travelers by a campfire who have tales to tell about local bosses. Just please not: Go to the church and find the secret chest in the bell tower, Go collect 4 herbs and I'll give you a cube, Go slay 5 goblins for gold. I want like red dead redemption/early game dragons dogma 2 quests.
Is this the same game he said everything was shitty about it, and people started saying it was because he was denied a sponsor for it ?
i think the combat looks a bit janky in some ways , the over saturated bloom visual effects with motion blur not really helping it much too

This was the last game to get me truly excited at the reveal. I still remember the first gameplay trailer back from before Covid and I knew this could be a special thing. In the current landscape it feels even more special. A unique glimpse into what the story driven RPG genre could've looked like if games like Shadow of War, Witcher 3 & Dragon's Dogma had been build upon properly...
As with any game, I shall wait. When the time comes: remember, no preorders.
Dam asmon, they didn’t give you a demo so you mad bro?
They better have an option to reduce the in game particles. If they don’t the fights will be very unsatisfying.
If they don't someone will just do a mod about it.
which they always have...
They most likely will, since bdo can reduce both particles and the screen shake, otherwise I 10000% agree with you. It is EGREGIOUS
No.
Ever since I played FEAR I have the urge to watch 300 mols of particles flying across the screen every time I hit an object. I hope we can raise the particle limit.
It's good that some people want less details. Make the game runs a little better. But I think I will still use the particles effect, but that camera shake, it's giving me motion sickness
idk if it make sense but my problem with the visual is it looks sanitize. Like every 3d model feel like a 3d model. It seems they found an uncanny vally. Like the NPCs have no stains or anything, like they are brand new and just appeared in the universe 5 minutes ago,for exemple:
6:27. like the house is ''on fire''. the wood has no damage, its not getting roasted or anything.
6:39. this legit feel like ps2 aera.
1:17 all the props feel like this 2.
17:13 those knights have lived nothing, 0 combat experience, like their clothes looks like they are brand new when they are literaly camping outside
13:01 like their is no snow on the assets, the 3d model just got droped there.
They dont seem to have put any effort in integrating the models. The art direction feels really really weird and honestly kinda bad.
They have great things like when you hit an an enemy and the blood start to stain them, like the white monkey boss...but this is an animal living in the wild and its fur looks fucking pristine. The monkey use 3 bottle of champoo per shower 4 shower a day.
For the rest is seems decent. The story feels like ive seen it before with what 3 or 4 min of cinematic. If the gameplay feels good, all of this above wont matter, but still, feels kinda cheap on the art, not the best marketing.
Glad this sht isn’t another souls like and this absolutely shts on Kazan the first berserker
He just mad it ain't souls like
everything about this looks great, but just like he said there are some visuals and motions that feel lack luster and are missing "polish" - I'm hoping with the time they are still working on it that they really hone in on the visual aspect of combat because if you look really closely rn they are just using a ton of particles to hide shortcomings - the overall visuals are amazing, just the fluidity of combat is nearly there (without particles in a throw move like at 17:22 you can really see it)
Asmon says he thinks this might be a SEVEN! (he gave FORESPOKEN a sevenxD)
Cliff needs to investigate the Battleborn. They are the one usually behind the Gray-mane disappearance. Just ask Thorald.
Combat looks good Asmon is Delusional this is not Elden Ring or a souls like
2:40 Khazan is a soulslike, and Wukong also leans to that genre. Crimson Desert looks more like an open world arpg. To compare it to games like Witcher or Dragon's Dogma would be more fair, especially when talking about the fights.
Edit: Oh, you mentioned those arpg later. Mb.
Asmon, out of all the games you can hate, why this game? Don't know what you are smoking but the game looks pretty good.
Seeing the boss battle at the end. I like that it zooms out rather than being the same perspective where bad camera controls don't keep it zoomed in. One of my biggest gripes about Elden Ring and the like, is that part of the difficulty of the larger bosses is the camera and knowing when to stay locked on or lock off to look up.
People saying Ps3 graphics haven't played any Ps3 games and man you need to check your eyes.
8:03 this is a very great way of describing it because monster hunter has AMAZING fighting animations with flow and personality to each weapon style showing true individuality between them

what I've seen with new games is the use of dodge roll and parry and i really love it and hope game devs keep using it, not sure if its the influence of fromsoft but I'm really grateful they have it. 3rd persons shooters having a dodge roll and parry is awesome.
Honestly given the animations from black desert, I thought the animations here would be much better. This is like pre awakening warrior with a short bow

8:28 Thats called hitstop, or hitlag. Havent played DD, but in MH they purposefully balance attack commitment by adding more or less of it. Light weapons have little to none. I played 2 hours of the demo at Gamescom, there was a greatsword lying around at the first boss, but it had no combos implemented so it was useless. I beat first 3 bosses multiple times (controls were something to get used to) but I spent about 15 minutes trying to do the last mechanic of the crab boss with some PA staff hints, becaue the controls were really jank to pull off the air swing.
Considering I have almost 30, 000 hours in BDO, this entire game looks like you're playing a backstory of an NPC in BDO's world while the "Main Characters" are off doing their thing.
Once the DEI crowd comes out against the Korean team Asmon will be onboard.

As someone with over 10k hours in BDO I will say this games biggest problem is lack of identity. I look at this and I think oh BDO meets dragons dogma/witcher with sprinkles of tears of the kingdom and shadow of the colossus. These are all good games but this means that in order for it to stand out the story is going to have to be good which I have yet to see pearl abyss do a good story.
Underrated comment. The game does look expansive and really good, but also kind of generic and derivative.
looks absolutely phenomenal tbh. especially the npc behaviour
The main problems: Particles and shadows. There are too many particles when there are almost no shadows in some places (especially on the faces of the characters). That's why everything seems flat
I honestly think this is either an art style or some kind of technical limitation that they can't get over.
