Any suggestions or can you refer me for where to take it for maintenance? Please let me know. Thank you!
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I've been lucky. I have only had to replace my hard drive once since owning mine. I am unfamiliar with the "driver error" are you sure that says driver error or is it DRIVE Error? If it's DRIVE Error it sounds like your hard drive may have failed. (Hopefully you have everything backed up because I didn't and I lost a lot of music when my hard drive died). If it is the hard drive that's an easy fix that you can do yourself. If it's the CD drive you should need SOME skill with a screwdriver to replace it or most electronics repair shops could do it real easy. Thanks for the compliment on my music.... You can find more of it HERE: hyperfollow.com/BigBrotherMotown
Unfortunately that machine has vast functionality. It would take me months to do a proper tutorial. There were very few tutorials when the machine was actually released. I could only find ONE video manual. It's about 40 minutes long. Fortunately the machine is quite simple to operate. Do you have the owners manual?
Same here! I just got a d16xd and need to learn how to use it. the manual is online for download so I do have that at least. Im gonna try and find that 40 min video. Awesome track btw!
so far ive put down a few tracks and that is easy and intuative. but still figuring out the effects routing and mixdown process. Once I know what all the letters mean on all the different screens it will be all good, I think. Ive never really made full songs before so even if I know the hardware well, I still gotta learn how to write the songs and lay down the tracks! Its a lot of stuff to organize! *If* I get good at it and like using it, I might get a IDE to SATA converter and see if it will work with an SSD. I had to replace the drive as soon as i got it but now it seems fine. also i might see if i can replace the fan and make it quieter..
@@glowingrectangles4596 I tried many years ago to replace the Hard drive with an SSD. I was unsuccessful.... But technology has changed since then so maybe now it's possible. They don't even make new hard drives anymore I could only find refurbished ones.... If you are able to successfully install an SSD please let me know what you used so I can try.
I probably could... But I wouldn't use a CD.... it would be easier to connect it to a laptop and just export the stems.... Then I could either take the laptop or move the stems to a thumb drive or SD Card....
@@lazarethneptune6969 do you REALLY though? Those vocals you hear were recorded in my living room... NO vocal both.... NO sound proofing. Just meticulous care taken to make sure the house was quiet. (Turned off the fans and air conditioning) Scrubbed all the vocal tracks to remove any unwanted breaths or noises and everything came out fine.
Only reason i use a daw is for for the flexibility of routing when it comes to mixing (parallel compression, returns sends, mid sid eq) other than that 1,600 dollars worth of garbage snd heartache. The manufacturers act like you're their enemy when you call out a problem. P.o.s
Unfortunately NO.... (The ONLY flaw of the machine if you ask me)..... HOWEVER, there is a video of a hack where a guy installs a VGA output on his D3200 mixer.... It should be the same process for the D32XD. I was thinking about doing it myself. The video is on RUclips just search for it it should come up.
@@BigBrotherMotown Back in the day, when I moved on from Tascam 4Trk portastudio, I agonised over getting this or the Roland 2480. (It was a big budget outlay for me). Went with the Roland, largely because of the VGA set up and the 16 inputs. (Probably would have been happy with both, hence couldn't decided for ages, going back and forth). Never got into computer based recording, as I like to have physical faders and knobs to tweak. 10 years on, still going strong, though I never got to use all 16 inputs on the Roland yet, in fact I think 4 is the most, at one time. Ah... my big producer dreams.
@@IfUfindthisURlost actually I did about 6 months of research before buying my studio equipment. The Roland 2480 and the Korg were the last 2 hard disk recorders standing. In the end, the deciding factors were TRACK COUNT and the touch screen. Korg was the FIRST 32 track hard disk recorder. I knew I needed more than 24 tracks because I did R&B and I commonly stacked background vocals so I needed at least 16 tracks just for vocals and more tracks meant I wouldn't have to bounce tracks down. I really liked the VGA connectivity of the Roland but felt like the touch screen of the Korg made up for it. So that's what I decided to go with. Dozens of projects and almost 20 years later.... I'm happy with that decision. I really wish they would bring back hard disk recorders. They were truly EPIC!
@@BigBrotherMotown There was a Yamaha O2R in my running until the final two, but if I recall correctly, it didn't have an internal CD drive, so it dropped out, (but didn't make the final decision any easier). My one fear now they no longer make these dream machines, is if something brakes on it, there is no support! If I might ask a question? I know nothing of R&B production, (as I record mostly in a folk rock style, where a more basic, simple sound is prized), I can't imagine having that many vocal tracks. How does it work? I've heard of double tracking a vocal, to give it a fuller sound, but I can't imagine you are double tracking 8 different parts. Is the aim to get a choir effect? If you wouldn't mind enlightening me.
@@IfUfindthisURlost "stacking" is a process of recording multiple parts of a vocal...it was popularized by groups like Jodeci in the 90s. Let's say a song had a 4 part harmony. They would have each part recorded several times and then blend them all together for a bigger sound. So if you stacked each note 4 times that's 4 x 4 which is 16 tracks. When you blend those tracks together with a splash of reverb it gives a much bigger sound. You can also pan those individual tracks left, center and right to spread them across the stereo field and create a huge presence with the vocals. I've done this to great affect in almost all of my recordings. I prefer this technique over using the chorus affect which basically doubles the sound but if you want a super huge background you can stack vocals AND use the chorus effect as well.
@lazarethneptune6969 according to korg, you can.... it's somewhat lightweight compared to other equipment or software, but you can definitely get some good sounding POLISHED recordings with a little effort.
@@BigBrotherMotown Awesome I'm starting to dig into this machine! I thought I had something that was outdated but your video has shown me this machine can create some professional recording!!!
@@lazarethneptune6969 this machine was truly ahead of it's time when it was released in the early 2000s. It was the first 32 track hard disk recorder and they threw everything but the kitchen sink in there. 😂 👍
For the song in the video the music came as a 2 track stereo wave file from the producer and I laid the vocals over it. I tried my best to make it sound like a single cohesive production but I have to admit the producers put one HELL if a mix on it before they sent it to me.
@@BigBrotherMotown That was my only concern, becuase i use over 30 tracks for instrumentation alone. Do you use a outboard compressor for vocals? You might have to compress it some more.
@@kensmechanicalaffair yes... You would definitely have to bounce some tracks down. (I HATE bouncing) I like to keep everything separate. I rarely use more than 16 tracks on instruments but I use a LOT on vocals because I use a technique called "stacking" on my background vocals. I might do 3 or 4 takes per note and blend them all for a thicker sound. I try not to compress the master track too much. That's just my preference for R&B but I do have an Alesis Masterlink for outboard mastering it's old as HELL but does a great job. I'm probably going to start mastering in software in the future. Although, I'm sure I could have added more compression directly on the Korg. It has a decent set of final effects but you might want something more robust.
@@BigBrotherMotown I've been watching reviews, reading articles, pondering it for days now. Without a actual studio there is no way to do all that a daw can do with a mixer unless you have a mixing desk. Actual multitrack recorders have a natural sound and balance, that takes too much tweaking to achieve...Give and take i guess.
@@kensmechanicalaffair EXACTLY.... The Korg was designed from the ground up as (what us old heads call) a DAW IN A BOX. It's much more than a mixer. It has quality mic pres, a whole suite of built in effects, 4 band parametric EQ on every channel and all the editing tools including "scrub" functionality. It really was designed to take you from production all the way to red book CD right there in the unit. The only downside is that you will have to edit by the numbers as there is no drag and drop functionality and no mouse support. But the touch screen helps a lot. If you are seriously considering the Korg I suggest you download the user manual from the Korg website. It will answer all the questions you might have.
Big Brother I have question concerning the d32xd. Can you record on music on the 32xd then take it into a studio to do vocals. If so do i need to take the d32xd itself or just a cd.
You can indeed record individual tracks of music on the D32XD and then take it to a studio. I don't know WHY you would want to do that when you can record the vocals right there on the Korg but if that's what you wish to do you can. You "can" export the stems (Audio from the tracks) to a cd but it would be MUCH more convenient to just connect the Korg to a computer and move the stems to a thumb drive that will fit in your pocket. You could take that to the studio and import them into ANY DAW.... However I will say this....I have recorded DOZENS of songs using just the Korg D32XD and the built in (stock) effects and have gotten GREAT results. This machine was truly ahead of its time when it was released and is better than just about any hard disk recorder you can buy today. You might want to at least TRY to record the vocals on the Korg before you go somewhere and pay for studio time. You may be surprised at what you hear. I can assure you, you can get GREAT quality productions using just the Korg. I invite you to listen to the song I played in this video with a quality set of headphones or studio monitors. The Korg is a top notch machine.... Happy Recording!
@@BigBrotherMotown Yes! it's great machine!! The reason why want to take the tracks in the studio is because I really don't have the area to let loose on vocals

You can find more of it HERE:

Can you make a tutorial? I have the same but the 16xd
Can you take the recorded tracks from the D32XD, download them on a cd and take the cd to a bigger studio and upload those tracks?
I probably could... But I wouldn't use a CD.... it would be easier to connect it to a laptop and just export the stems.... Then I could either take the laptop or move the stems to a thumb drive or SD Card....
@@BigBrotherMotown Ok I can do the music at home but I need a place to really lay down some good vocals!!
@@lazarethneptune6969 do you REALLY though?
Those vocals you hear were recorded in my living room... NO vocal both.... NO sound proofing. Just meticulous care taken to make sure the house was quiet. (Turned off the fans and air conditioning)
Scrubbed all the vocal tracks to remove any unwanted breaths or noises and everything came out fine.
Fax is not what you have but how you use it
Only reason i use a daw is for for the flexibility of routing when it comes to mixing (parallel compression, returns sends, mid sid eq) other than that 1,600 dollars worth of garbage snd heartache. The manufacturers act like you're their enemy when you call out a problem. P.o.s
do the preamps have enough gain for dynamic mics?
Yes
Solid Sound🎼
Thank you!
Big Brother can a monitor be connected to the Korg d32?
Big Brother! Can you master tracks on the D32XD?
@lazarethneptune6969 according to korg, you can.... it's somewhat lightweight compared to other equipment or software, but you can definitely get some good sounding POLISHED recordings with a little effort.
@@BigBrotherMotown Awesome I'm starting to dig into this machine! I thought I had something that was outdated but your video has shown me this machine can create some professional recording!!!
@@lazarethneptune6969 this machine was truly ahead of it's time when it was released in the early 2000s. It was the first 32 track hard disk recorder and they threw everything but the kitchen sink in there. 😂 👍
Did you bounce the instrumental to one channel?
Ya still got my d16xd from 2007 works great . Tried computer based recording just don't like it.
My D16xd has sixteen analog compressors built in. Go buy sixteen analog compressors and see what that costs alone!
I got the d1200
