A wonderful document! John Lewis was a beautiful soul and such a great and under-rated pianist. His touch and articulation were so fine. Thank you for sharing.

Lewis had a super individual style (as did Monk), no one else like him - and he really swung. Refined, minimal, elegant and also funky. Wonderful to hear him in a trio setting.

The master himself. Key member of that institution - MJQ.

👍👍👍why do so few pianists play in this style. Most of them play as if they were paid for by the number of notes, which really gets on my nerves after a few minutes

Fabulous. So nice to hear John Lewis stretching out as he often did not do with the MJQ. The added bonus is the great NHOP.

Is this the same John Lewis that played as a regular on the house band at "Jazz Workshop" back in the late 50's and 60's??

wow, how old was NHOP then? I didn't even hear of him until many years later.
