    Thank you for being so responsible about handling it. I wish everyone showed that level of concern when coming into contact with a critically endangered species.
    That said; I hope you had the sense to stop and buy a lottery ticket on the way home, because your odds of winning that probably aren't much worse than the odds of hooking into that fish.

      so you didn't see the part where if they had gotten too close it could cut their leg off in a fraction of a second...? Yeah no I'm glad, that thing is so much more dangerous than a bull shark or a tiger shark, it's in shallow water there, it can get up that close to land... They are just swimming by not even looking at you, they see a fish, they do their swish swash cutteroo to get it, and your leg is gone. Stupid sawfish.

    • @philj9594
      @philj9594 3 месяца назад +1

      @@alanmalcheski8882 Alan, do you think that saw part of the fish is like a light saber from Star Wars? It isn't going to "cut their leg off in a fraction of a second" for crying out loud. It could do some serious damage, but nothing that couldn't be treated at the hospital. They are only really a concern when captured like this as they feel threatened. You should be far and away more concerned about tiger and bull sharks. Are you kidding me? A simple test bite from both of those species of shark has killed many people. How many people have died to a sawfish? None that we know of.

    • @alanmalcheski8882
      @alanmalcheski8882 2 месяца назад

      one that big could totally slice your leg off. Watch how they cut up their feeder fish, they thrash super fast, the fish gets shredded. that's an endangered species, sharks are much more common.

After it thrashed the bolt cutters away from him I feel it was obvious it needed no assistance regaining its position for return to the depths. That tail thrash was predictable and risky. It's easy to tell that no matter what is going on, viewership is at the forefront of this guys subconscious mind. Cool for us, kinda sucks for the fish.

    Nice catch that thing was huge! Awesome handling of it too. For future referense its not a saw or a bill, its a rostrum (raw-strum). Great job!

    Caught a couple of these in the keys, the boat skipper always took tissue samples to send off before we released them. They are awesome fun to catch.

    wow! the power of that fish when it pulled its tail. incredible. also its amazing just remembering that the waters surrounding florida was once filled with sawfish, as many of their bones were discovered within native american burial sites all over florida, especially indian mounds, along with many other shark species including Megalodon. i guess every creature has its origin points, apparently Florida was one major hotspot for such creatures.

    We, my Dad,2brothers and I, saw one about that size behind Terrebonne Island while camping there in about 1970. He was in about 2' of water thrashing mullet. I wanted to try and catch it but cooler heads,my Dad, prevailed! I remember his words as if it was yesterday, "What the hell you wanta do wit dat?" We're cajun so think cajun accent with his response.
