This worked great so far on my 2016 f150. For the first time in three winters my door locks aren’t frozen. Love my truck, but this issue has been maddening beyond words
Thanks for the info. Was pissed off as hell I live in Wisconsin own a 2018 f150 and last night on December 29th damn door didn't latch. Dropping F bombs because of how much the truck costs. Thanks again for the vid.
It just happened to my 2018 F-150 I bought a month ago and I did the same thing, haha. I hear that sometimes it's just moisture, it could be a cable, or just replace. Taking it back to the dealership in a bit so they can check it out.
Thanks for this. I'm in the chicago area and with this recent cold snap I'm having the same issue on my 2018 FX4. F'n annoying. I've used WD40 but haven't tried PB. For me it's my driver side door. When it's frozen I open the passenger side and then open the driver door from the inside. I also read spray WD40 in the handle as well.
I have a 2000 Taurus and trying to fix this at 8pm, in MN... and it's so cold out!! Thnks for the vid, but I don't have the pb blaster stuff. Thnks anyway. U were quick entertaining.
Thanks for putting this video out. I am hoping it will be a fix for my 2018 F150. It is unbelievable, after spending the kind of money I did on this truck that this would be happening. I will never buy another Ford again!!
@@kalg9437 So instead of PB Blaster, I used BOESHIELD T-9 which is what another guy having the same problem raved about, and then I used Fluid Film on top of that. I removed the bottom rubber plugs from the doors and so far it has worked, although there has only been 3 freezing days/nights since I have tried it. I am keeping my fingers crossed it will continue to work throughout the winter.
@@tedpappas1559 "never buy another Ford again"... because of a freezing door latch?? Cmon now. The Tacoma I traded in for my F150 had so many issues my son nicknamed it the Lemona. 65k trouble free miles on my 5.0 so far... and absolutely loving it. Plus... that ALL ALUMINUM BODY!!! Gotta love it. A few squirts of lubricant in the doors once a year... no problem with me.
If you are stuck away from home and you just need to get back to your tools, use the manual lock on the inside. Push it down (old style) into the manual locked position and simply close the door. It should close and be locked. Typically it will unlock at home by just lifting the handle. If your drive is long enough, blast your car heater and everything should be fine when you get home. I’m told that there is definitely a recall on this but many dealers are denying that there is. Do your homework.
I’m having the same problem and the dealership says there is nothing they can do. “Thanks Ford!” I’m using your fix and not washing my vehicle in winter. Outrageous!
Yes this does work. I have a 2018 F150 and the temp was 18 degrees, and it froze. I sprayed PB Blaster in the opening latch housing. It immediately started working. Good practice.
Was it just PB blaster u used or the method the video shared this just started happening to my truck an it's been less than 12 hrs an I'm already scouring the internet for answers or fixers
It does sound like an engineering problem that could only be fixed by providing new redesigned doors. Today, Feb. 16, 2024, my Ford F-150 XL's drivers door would not latch closed. I live in S.E. Minnesota and our weather has been above normal for many days now, but the temp suddenly dropped. When I opened my door today it acted liked it was frozen up but would not close. I had to go to the store to grab some beer so I figured I'd be ok as long as I was driving straight or making left hand turns. I'd slow down for the right hand turns and use my right hand to keep the door from flying open. It would be nice if Ford dealerships could provide Ford truck owners with free cans of WD-40, PB Blaster, and Instructions when truck owners come in to complain about the problem.
I had the recall done and it still freezes up soon as it drops below 30 degrees without failure. Such a pain in the ass. I usually WD40 the latches and around the mechanism and it does work but not a permanent fix, temporarily fixes it as I have to do it at least 5-6 times every winter
Same issue on my 2017 f 150 xtr pulled the rectangular plugs on bottoms of each door to allow air circulation and sprayed pb blaster on latches so far so good.
WD-40 worked for the passenger side door latch of my 2018 F-150 that opened but wouldn't close this morning (22 degrees). Gotta check out that PB Blaster.
It works for a little bit...if you wash or it rains...the sprays wash away...I tried water resistant silicone spray but only work for a few days till it rained than temperature dropped to about 18
Thanks for the video. I had the same problem this morning on my 2018 Raptor. Eventually I was able to get the "broken" door to close. The issue is that now I can't get that same door to unlock to even try the fix. How can I go about getting the door unlocked and open?!?!? Thanks!
My drivers door wouldn't close last night. 1st one (2018) had the cam phaser problem. Got a 2020 and the doors freeze. Knock wood no phaser problems. At 50k miles I will part ways with Ford.
Just got me a 2017 in 2024 and. Watching got stuck at Aldi yesterday, the door would not close at 7 degrees in Chicago. I had to ride home holding the door tell police pulled me over and told him what was going on living on blocks from store he let me go and he knew what the problem was and went in his trunk and got some Wd40 and sprayed in my lockand all over the place 😂 but it worked going to go get a can of PB blaster now!
This is the dumbest issue to have with a truck.. 24° in Chicago post recall and here I am, crank belting my f*cling door closed so I could get home from work…. What a kick in the plums
I have the same problem on the rear driver door! At first it wouldn’t close but now it closed shut and won’t open at all! How did you get yours to open?
I had same issue had to go somewhere warm and allow it to thaw out and door was finally able to open...this will also happen the next day after washing your truck during a really cold winter...water gets in the seals behind the door handle and freezes your locking mechanism inside the door
Ford gets a capital F for this issue considering how many models and years this issue affects. The should be replacing actuators for all their customers and not putting water proofer etc. BS
man join the club. i don't have a raptor but i do have an f150 2016. they all have the same damn problem. i did the wd40 and undercoating every year and until this winter things were ok. this year nothing cures this damn inconvenient f' up by ford. someone needs tell these wankers they are building worse vehicles not better. much of the problem is with new materials and techniques of assembly. just cheapy ways of doing things. my f150 becomes nearly useless in weather below -8 C. wipers slow to a crawl, doors locks/ latches freeze, parking brake(cable operated) seizes engaged, tailgate lock won't open, etc, etc. ford calls this a work truck, i call it junk. don't get me wrong i like my f150 but it has too many functional faults for me to buy another. if the locks are the only troubles you have well lucky you. my truck had 1,000 km when the back up cam started it's monkey business. at 6 months and about 5,500 km i wanted the 4x4 high for the first time to get to work on a slippery morning. i pulled out into the street realizing it was slippery twisted the 4x4 knob and the "have 4x4 system checked" gear light flashed in my face. i was so angry i nearly floored it to put it the ditch hoping to total it for the insurance replacement value. one can't turn sharp corners like into ones driveway in 4x4. it drags wheels unless one offs the traction control. the max defrost takes at least 6 twists of the knob to activate some mornings, other mornings it's already on. back up cam has been out some many times i have lost count. drivers windows go up to 3/4 then down fully into the door. and get this: only when it is raining or on a dusty road. the instrument cluster units reset themselve when they feel like it. i set it to MPG, next start it is L/KM. i think maybe ford needs hire a full staff of LADA engineers. good luck with the raptor
I watch my pops from the frog going in through the passenger side. Tapping the driver door. Waiting for it to heat up with the truck. Too much to go through with the recall were mechanics gonna check it out
My 2018 f150 lariat has the same issue right now. I think I will try this fix before taking the door apart. Check this guys (ford tech) video out and read the comments. He said don't use wd40 (I know that is a comment on here) but what MMR did in this video would work. The ford tech guy also greased the shit out of the inside latches, and recommends sealing the door latch handle with silicone instead of the foam kit that the 18N03 fix comes with. ruclips.net/video/-n6H-3tTcfA/видео.html

This worked perfectly for my 2018 f150. Thank you very much!
I have this issue right now with my 2009 lariet f150 and can’t figure out the issue so I’m hoping your video helps me!!!!
thankfully my mom taught me the trick abt using the seat belt over the door handle.
I have an '18 F150 XLT and I had BOTH the cam phasor and the latch freeze. It's so fun!

This guy made me crack up. Great video. did the PB work for you?

I have a problem with mine mine is a 2011 Ford Platinum in the door latch sticks will this work for that as well
Why didn't you do the door with the problem? instead of doing doors that already work..
Speaking the truth brother!!!!
Same issue on my 2017 f 150 xtr pulled the rectangular plugs on bottoms of each door to allow air circulation and sprayed pb blaster on latches so far so good.
Still working ok?
@@aparise1 Yup!!!! This stuff is way better than WD40 No more frozen locks.
@@waynematthews7273 Awesome, I picked up a can last night!
hmm, most of the other fixes I found use Blaster Multi-Purpose Lubricant. Which should I use? The lubricant or Penetrating Catalyst?
Ever any follow up?
WD-40 worked for the passenger side door latch of my 2018 F-150 that opened but wouldn't close this morning (22 degrees).
Gotta check out that PB Blaster.
Here I am watching this January 1 2024. I was at party last night walked out my door would want to close. I had to hold door close on my way home 🏡🤣🤣

If it's below 32 F, wait for it to thaw out. If it still doesn't open, it could be a broken door look actuator or part attaching to it.
The dealer "fixed" mine last year. And now it's doing it again.....has this still been working for you?
Let us know if it worked and if it didn't did you find a fix?
My drivers door wouldn't close last night. 1st one (2018) had the cam phaser problem. Got a 2020 and the doors freeze. Knock wood no phaser problems. At 50k miles I will part ways with Ford.
Thanks a lot that helps my raptor did the same
So did this fix work? I'm having the same issue on my Platinum F150 and like you say, it's infuriating!
Found that if you cycle the locks a few times it will latch.

Yup I feel your pain having the same issue with my 2014 raptor
Same issue very very frustrating.
Take door panel off, run pb blaster down wire that attached to lock from handle, moisture killer

I had my 2016 F150 fixed with the recall fix. It's worse than it ever was now.. I would not recommend the recall fix from my experience.
My son about fell out of the vehicle cause the door doesn’t don’t latch and pop opened. Ford needs to fix it
Did your fix work? Having the same problem right now
Yup working great now
