I am a working bass player and to me Dan is the best bass instructor on RUclips. He is totally correct that the goal is not to kill a hundred notes per line; it's about sitting deep in the grove and serving the song with minimal connecting bass patterns.

Very kind, Jeremy. Thanks very much! As you know, that's the kind of bass playing that gets you work...

I really like the way you spent some time using the alternate finger positions and incorporating "finger sliding" technique. Playing the same note on different strings is at times a hard sell to newer players and such an important asset in creating one's own musical expression. Very nicely done!

Thanks for this great lesson - you didn't stick with only one simple "box", you told us it was for major blues, you showed us the super slidey pentatonic scale plus the flat 7 - all greatly appreciated!

Superb, everything you need for blues, including the huge point of leaving space.....just because you have a note, sometimes not using it is more effective😎👌

I really like your videos, they've definitely helped me explore my fretboard more as I practice before buying an intermediate instrument to replace my trusty Epiphone. Do you have any videos on more experimental/psychedelic music?

Hi Jennifer. Thanks very much! Can you give me some examples and I’ll look into it. Sounds interesting to me. Epiphones are cool!!

Isn't that A7 in the first segment really a A Major 7? It has a G#, which is the major 7th, not the flatted seventh which an dominant 7 chord calls for.

There are so many different types of blues. BB King's a great place to start. Also the Blues Brothers film with Duck Dunn in it is great.

They’re fretboard diagrams. I have a free book on my website that explains them if you’re interested. They represent the strings and the frets and the blobs are the notes.
