I got the AMS for the color prints but what has been an unexpected game changer for me was using it to print PLA with PETG support interface. It makes support removal incredibly easy and clean. Load 3 PLA spools and 1 PETG spool and I can pump out dozens upon dozens of models with effortless support removal.
Edit: Here is a tip to considerably reduce purge waste. Change the flushing multiplier from 1.0 to 0.6 or 0.7 I have even gone to 0.5 without noticing color bleed. Bambu Studio defaults to 1x multiplier in order to be absolutely sure there is not color bleeding however 1x is extremely conservative, excessive even.

I'll give all those options a try. Thanks!

One more idea to handle waste is to print more of the same object. Printing 5 shoes will result in the same overall waste but it's only a 5th per shoe. But it really somes down to being conscious about what you're printing. Don't use multi-colour if you want as little waste as possible or accept that there will be a lot of waste for something that you think is worth it.

You can shrink the prime tower and you can (and really need to) change the multiplier for the purging as Bambu sets it WAY too high. Also the real trick to multi color is fill the bed with as many copies as you can. The waste amount is the same regardless of copies printed.

Wow, that Jordan 1 is awesome looking.
Taught myself how to airbrush/drybrush just to make 3D prints look better for myself, and was feeling like I wasted my time when I saw the different multi-color machines were coming, but that amount of waste is wild. 145g flushed! 15 hours!!! Holy shit!
Another great review, very easy to follow and understand the pros and cons. Definitely think you should have highlighted the build time a bit more, that's almost as much a negative as the waste. Feels like the print time is ten times slower compared to mono-color printing for something like that shoe.
Hopefully the work people are putting into making filament recyclers/respoolers will continue well and we get a mass market recycle/respool machine so we can turn the waste back into proper filament.

You're right about the added time for multicolor prints. Without multicolor, the shoe would have printed in 3 hours and 45 minutes at that scale. The enlarged keychains took around 2-3 hours using the creator's intentionally slower settings. I'm going to be very selective in what I print in multicolor based on the amount of potential waste.

Is it possible to use the waste just for the support material of the 3d model?

You can set the colors that you have in bambu studios under devices then resync your filament

  • @hotfix7387

I don't understand why you wouldn't take a minute to tell the printer the types and colors of the non-Bambu Lab filament you are using. You can do it through Bambu Studio or on the color LCD screen. That would help avoid the scenario you had where you had a print where you missed a color because it wasn't visible in the interface.
More importantly once Bambu Studio knows how which colors you are using, you use the "Flushing volumes" function to have it adjust down how much it flushes between color changes. I.E. it helps the printer reduce the printer poop by knowing going from color A to color B. For example, going from white to black doesn't take a lot of flushing, but it takes a lot of flushing to go in the other direction. The bleeding of the black into the red on your shoe might have been helped with that function.
Then you can use the poop reduction method introduced by Leon Fisher Skipper to further reduce the amount of poop. Using this method (which is slowly being integrated into the printers and Bambu Studio natively by Bambu Lab) I can safely use a flushing volume ratio of .5 to dramatically reduce the poop, and I could probably go lower.
Also enlarging the key chains will require more filament changes if your enlarging includes the Z axis as will add more layer lines. 3 mor layers with 4 color changes = 12 more poops. It's not a lot, but to say enlarging the keychains won't result in any additional poop is only accurate if no additional layers are created as s result of the enlargement. What doesn't add any more poop is adding more copies of the same print as they all have the same amount of layers and there would only be 4 color changes per layer.
As for good uses for the poop, my kids use it as ammunition for 3D printed catapults. 🙂

Wasteful is subjective. One could argue that if all you're doing with a 3D printer is to print little trinkets, it's wasteful of plastic and resources. But not to the person who's printing the objects for themselves/friends, etc., and don't want to spend the resources to actually paint it themselves. So, while multi-color can use a lot of filament, if it produces the results that give people joy and saves a lot of time/resources elsewhere, then no, it's not wasteful.

Hi great video, I’m definitely getting a A1 , I love those key ring prints.
If you don’t mind me asking, how did you fill in the keychain holes please?

    • @FigureFeedback
      @FigureFeedback  3 месяца назад +2

Thanks! In Bambu Studio, there's a section under your filaments called "Process." There's also an option in that section called "Objects." If you click on a keychain, and then click Objects, you can scroll down the list until you find "Generic Cylinder." You can right click on that and delete it to remove the hole(s).

It also make print time far longer and that means it also uses much more energy and that costs money.

the quality of this system is great, whole lotta waste tho. i've had awful luck with jayo filament. just got some tangled Made in the USA filament but the shipping times are awful.

The only issue I've had with Jayo is two of the spools cracked and broke off in the corner. Fortunately, it doesn't affect the spools spinning during printing.

Bambu AMS system are fine for flat hueforge prints but anything else, Its going to throw 100's of grams of filament into the garbage. Even with all the tweaking and settingd. Its a bad system
