Some of us can’t get the sticks out our asses though 🤣
The cover art shown is actually for the Hangar 18 single. The guy with the skull head is Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot since the first album. He tends to show up on a lot of their albums, and he represents the whole "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" thing since he's got a mask bolted on his eyes, huge clamps through his jaw, and giant bolts over his ears. His "creation" is described in the song Rattlehead from the first album, Killing Is My Business... But Business Is Good!
Yeah always loved the take on see, hear and speak no evil but more specifically aimed at censorship as Vic is one restricted guy!, one of the all time great Metal Mascots!
Megadeth are definitely the "musicians choice" out of the Big 4, and most thrash bands to be honest. The writing on the first 5 albums is definitely some of the most musically "advanced" by thrash standards, so if you're a muso, they're way more of a rewarding and fun listen than other bands in the genre
I agree. One band that also belongs but doesn't get included is the King Diamond band . Especially the Them album. It took me a long time to be able to deal with King's vocals , but eventually I did. I actually played it through an old 8 track recorder and tried to remove the vocal tracks .
You're right. I never get bored when listening to their songs. It's different when I listened to other metal band, it seems like blend and not too creative.
I think Judson should hear ‘Wake Up Dead’ , ‘Tornado Of Souls’ , and ‘In My Darkest Hour’. Also, I think all ~Megadeth fans will agree that the live performance of ‘She-Wolf’ from the *Rude Awakening* DVD is required viewing, to get an idea of just how tight these guys are LIVE. A lot of bands are sloppy, live, but Megadeth remind me of my teenage heroes Blue Öyster Cult: they only have one or two true instrumentals, but they can tern their existing 5-min. songs into far-out, very heavy extended jams.
But. The sound Dave and Chris Poland had in the first 2 albums was divine. Dave's chaotic style vs Chris' intricate smooth playing. Match made in heaven.
I haven't realized this till now but Dave strings his music into a song so much better than most other metal bands where it just sounds perfect. and he transitions from the intro/instrumental parts to the vocals so well. i think he does it better than most other metal artists.
Megadeth from the Peace Sells album had Chris Poland on lead guitar and Gar Samuelson on drums who both had a background in Jazz music so Dave Mustaine who is a pretty smart man kept that style for most of the early Megadeth years where even though it’s Thrash Metal it had a mix of groovy Jazz Fusion somehow mixed in. You still get that groovy feel in the Rust in Peace album. On the Peace Sells album you have The Conjuring and Good Morning Black Friday songs that show In the next album why Hangar 18, 5 Magiks, Tornado of Souls, and Holy Wars had catchy rhythms and clean guitar work.
I was about to comment literally everything you expressed my man Lolz I love watching/hearing new Megadeth fans being born add to that Judson’s quirky but sweet commentary and I’m hooked on Great Measures (for 1/2 measures avail us none) hahaha God bless and keep you!!!
Here`s two fun facts about Hanger 18: The intro with the downstrokes IS exactly the same chords (all in D) as in a part of "The Call of Ktulu" which he listen to a few weeks ago. A part Mustaine (of cause) wrote. Actually not sure if he wrote the hole intro part?? During solo recording Dave keept on telling Friedman. "Think Alien, think Alien" which i actually think he nailed pretty damn good!!
Dave's songwriting skills are truly something of a marvel, considering he had no formal musical education. The dynamics and changes that go on in the rhythms are incredible, his "vision" for his music, his sense of concept and musical direction, is undeniably clear and concise. I don't even want to get into Marty Friedman either, he's one of the best players on earth in my opinion. Incredible chops and his knowledge of different sounds and styles is top shelf. His phrasing is maybe the best I've ever heard.
Awesome to hear the original 1990 mix! Yeah, maybe it’s not as clear or dynamic with modern production values, but the remixes have newly recorded drums, which is why they sound so up front and synthetic and even some guitar parts are re-recorded too. Guys like me who’ve been listening to this album regularly since it was released in September 1990 were so offended and disappointed when those remixes came out. The original albums are ingrained in my brain from listening to them so much the last 33 years that the sonic difference are immediate and they sound phony. Anyway, I don’t wan to keep kicking a dead horse about it. I’m just happy you got the right one here. Looking forward to more Megadeth, especially Tornado of Souls. Happy to hear Judson is enjoying them more than he thought he would. I just saw Megadeth last week in Albuquerque for my 18th time since 1991 and Dave Mustaine still brings it. They and the other Big Four bands were such a huge part of my youth in the 80s. It’s nice to still see them around. 🤘🏼

I've been listening to this song on the regular since in was released. This is the FIRST time I've heard mention or given thought the Aerosmith tie in - good call. (related, I think the bass lick and outro to Peace Sells borrows heavily from Crossroads by Clapton #everythingisborrowed #etid)
I really dig watching you enjoy these classics. 😎 On an unrelated note, I gathered yall are from the South based on the accents. It's not super thick (like Mississippi or Alabama for example) but if I had to guess where you guys are from, I'd go with Tennessee. Possibly even Virgina, or maybe one of the Carolinas. Anyhow, I'd love to know some of Judson's favorite bands/songs, and also if he actually listens to Megadeth on his own time. Keep up the good work fellas. 👍😎
The killing road has this chord that's a C chord. Then goes down half a step. So they appregiate it from the low E string. I didn't catch it until I played it for my guitar teacher.
I have that vinyl single in my collections. I sure have the album too, but that single is rare. It has very unik shape. Great song pick anyway. If i can guess you listened first Holy Wars and the next will be Tornado of Souls... I love this reckord and Five Magics is one of my favourite song from it. I've been listening to this song on the regular since in was released. This is the FIRST time I've heard mention or given thought the Aerosmith tie in - good call. (related, I think the bass lick and outro to Peace Sells borrows heavily from Crossroads by Clapton #everythingisborrowed #etid)
For some reason the piece played by Judson at the beginning reminds me of Opeth's A Fair Judgement.
I really dig watching you enjoy these classics. 😎
On an unrelated note, I gathered yall are from the South based on the accents.
Close enough. We’re from Mississippi but just south of the TN state line. I’m hoping to catch him jamming Megadeth in his own time. 😂🤘
The killing road has this chord that's a C chord. Then goes down half a step. So they appregiate it from the low E string. I didn't catch it until I played it for my guitar teacher.
I emailed you the exact video link for the song i wanted you to review. I hope you got it!! 🤘👍
We did!
The "Run DMC" thing is way closer to some Led Zep imo. But yeah, love this track, and whole album.
Ashes in your mouth. Ashes in your mouth.
'Carry on richard'

Hey, at the beginning Judson is playing something very close to the intro to A Fair Judgement by Opeth!
I liked so much that i had to learn to play it myself with guitar.
I highly recommend Last rites love to deth, very early and raw megadeth
Best song of the one good MD album imho. Apart from those memories, it's just sad to see them fight their own Holy Wars these days...
intro piano sounds like opeth piano in blackwater Park album
five magicssss
Dave actually invented that Walk this way riff.
