3:19 I meant to say Beretta here
thanks for the clarification self lol
Love my 1301 M2 I keep it for home defense, and a moss 590s for on the go defense (truck) - i get no where near outrunning that 1301 btw! Insanely quick! It’s just a work of art!!
It's by far the nicest handling tactical shotgun we have had in the studio
I have a Benelli M4 and Beretta 1301 and A300. For me, it's like choosing between a blonde, brunette, redhead. Each are very similar, and different. Love all three and all are manufactured by Beretta or owner by Beretta.
You are shotgun blessed 🤣
@@ARFCOMReviews
I would marry into the Beretta family and change my last name. I also own a Px4 in 45 acp, an APX and 92FS. Team Beretta!
Thanks for the video. The button at the end of the lifter drops a shell on the lifter from the magazine unless the magazine is empty in which case it allows the bolt to lock back. This design allows the bolt to be pulled back without dropping a shell from the magazine to allow a select slug switch.
Dont know how you guys dont have more subscribers, I wish nothing but growth for the channel, keep up the amazing content gentlemen 🙌💯
We appreciate the love!
1301 is the best, no contest. One of the favorites in the safe as well. 🎉
It sets a ridiculous president for how good shotguns can be
Bought mine today! first one in British Columbia, mod 2 of course, shout out to Reddeer firearms in Alberta…thanks boys
Oh dang! I am SUPER jealous!
I put in a bid on a MOD2 at GB. Didn't think much about it and a few days later got a notification that I won. Best 1525 I ever spent. My favorite shotgun so far.
Dude! I am SUPER jealous!
Got mine used for 900
@jpb1502
Good for you. I love to hear a positive stiry like yours.
@@sodavidhere, Great deal for a used 1301 Mod 2.
I'm happy for you.
Well done.
I have an M4 and even with a Briley full competition trigger, I have never been able to outrun the action with any buckshot load and still be able to track my sights. Even with Federal FC 1145fps LE 9 pellet 00 buck. It's a non issue; the Lily has been gilded.
I tell all my friends to buy 1301's from Langdon. But I remain happy with my Benelli M4. There's just no substitute.
The M4 is a pretty solid platform
Excellent shotgun!! Just don’t fall for the LTT hype. Save your money and do the upgrades yourself. Also, it should be said that you can find a 1301 for a much lower price if you watch for sales and/or discounts.
Yes sir!
So I own the new 1301 mod 2 with the Mesa pistol grip setup and my best friend has the M4 with same type pistol grip and stock and extended tube. So the M4 to me feels a little softer on recoil but only by a fraction. This could be a stock padding difference or maybe that the M4 has a bit more weight. As far as ergo and controls the 1301 wins by a lot. The extended controls along with the pro lifter makes this a much easier manual of arms in my opinion. I will say the M4 has a long military history and is proven itself in combat this said I believe these 2 are right with each other but all things considered I give the new 1301 the edge. Also the new 1301 has some sick color ways to go with I got the new sniper grey and it is nice. The M4 in H2O is also dead sexy. I do agree I would like to have seen a bit more Mlok on the front and maybe ading a QD to the rear stock on the 1301 would have been nice.
Very solid and informed comment! Thank you for taking the time to go to the range and contribute 😁
Thank you guys
Thank YOU my good friend 😊
I'd like to see a 14" version that can be Form 1'd to an SBS..
DUDE, that would be top tier!
The only thing I don’t like about short barrelled shotguns is if it’s tube fed. With a shotguns capacity is what really matters. If it were magazine fed, I don’t care if you chopped the barrel down to whatever you want, but since capacity is intertwined with barrel length on tube fed, it’s just something I can’t justify.
@Starwarsgames66 I agree, but I'd still like one of these with a 14" barrel..
Got my MOD2 FDE for $1740. My favorite weapon in the stable.
I am beyond jealous, I literally shed a tear when we had to give ours back 🥲
I own this one and it’s a monster. Benelli M4… you got a rival.
It's definitely a rad shotgun!
Recently picked up my mod 2 in Wolf Gray for 2400(F Sin tax 🤦♂️) worth it tho
I think the gray is a rarer color I’ve only seen videos with the black/brown/green versions
You have 1 whole mod 2 more than me! I am super jealous!
Got the same in gray. Still haven’t shot yet too busy upgrading components. So far I’m very pleased
FWIW Himself, Jerry Miculek said years ago that the Browning Auto 5 was the only shotgun he could never outrun, the modern Browning and Winchester/FN self loaders coming in a mild second.
That is the highest authority on shooting fast 😊
8:04 Josh (From OnlyCops) having flashbacks to when he got lit up on the forums at shot show. Thermal sight trauma go BRRRRRRRRR
🤣🤣🤣 thank you bringing that up lol
🇺🇸
Well hello there friend :)
I've had the same issue with the trigger my first shots. I ended up fixing the issue and runs flawless
I'm happy to hear you had a good experience!
What was the fix in the end??
@johndavies6253 like they said it was like the hammer was off. I was able to get it to go back but it was doing the same. Somehow I was messing with the lifter and wiggling the hammer and seemed to pop back in place. Took it back to the range and ran perfect. This happened literally after my first shot after getting it. Functions checks worked and everything, when I took the trigger assembly apart it took a little force to manipulate it happening again, the hammer would get stuck in the down positiin.and the rear end seemed to get caught on something and I noticed it was off and by messing with the lifter it popped back in line. I can't exactly remember what I did because it was a few months ago.
Gentlemen; once the trigger pack was fixed, did you run the gun afterwards? I didn't see anything denoting that in the video. If you did run it afterwards, how much more ammo did you send downrange? I am assuming that it was fine after that.
It ran another 300 rounds with no issue after the trigger pack fix 😊
@@ARFCOMReviews Mmmm. That makes me happy! Thank you for the answer, Good Sir!!!!!!!!!!
I would think that the trigger issue was a one-off.
It happens. Even the best manufacturing and inspecting can have a one-off issue.
Didn't stop me from ordering my Mod 2.
We still have yet to find a single other instance of it happening so I think that's a fair assessment
The Beretta 1301 tactical is a great shotgun, but you guys are comparing the gen 2 version of the 1301 with the first generation of the Benelli m4. I don't know if you are aware of this but since last year Benelli has introduced their second gen of the benelli m4 with upgraded controls, rail, sights etc.. Here in Italy you almost can't find anymore the generation of the benelli you have in your hands and the vast majority of the gun stores only have the second gen of the m4 available. At this point (personal opinion here) the only real advantage the 1301 tactical has over the m4 is the reduced weight.
Most of the complaints we had with the M4 still stand with the latest gen that Bereli has out on the market
Does the cheek rest adjust enough to get good eye alignment with the top rail mounted red dot? or would you recommend the Aridus rmr rear sight replacement for co-witnessing?
We didn't have any issues with cheek weld but everyone's face is different and your mileage may vary
I have a M1014 and a 1301 Mod2… I kind want to trade the Benelli for another Mod2
It's pretty ridiculous how nice that shotgun really is
8:37 that is literally the shell release how did you mess that up? In order to change ammo and not feed from the tube you have to pull the handle back and drop a new shell in. if you push the shell release it drops a shell from the magazine tube and double feeds if you drop another shell in the ejection port.
You would be surprised
@@ARFCOMReviews what do you mean?
1301s seem cool, was thinking of getting one just to have a second semi auto 12ga. But my 11733 has never had an issue. Thanks for making that incident known - hard pass.
All guns break after enough use lol
I suspect the Benelli is still better. Though I can’t say that with authority since I’ve never shot one. But the Jarheads use it and so it can stand their abuse. I do own a 1301 and it’s _bad ass._ It’s more than adequate for your average civilian or cop. Unless you’re kids have to skip meals to buy one, it’s well worth the $.
The Benelli might certainly be proven to be more durable so far, but the 1301 has MUCH better controls and is overall easier to use. My whole family would be missing meals for a while to afford one, but both are pretty rad shotguns!
@@ARFCOMReviews The Benelli is the choice you make when you're about to spend a month going door to door in Fallujah and alternate using it as a baseball bat for actual baseball and a tent peg/tent peg hammer. The 1301 serves all the other needs.
If you're a poor, the Mossberg Maverick ain't nothing to sneeze at. It can still be found at about $250 even under Bidenomics.
Dude the Maverick 88 is legit, it's just the Toyota Camry of shotguns lol
Can the 1301 mod 2 foregrip/guard with M-Lok be used on the original 1301?
Yes sir! Ours was an original that we simply swapped the parts on it for the upgrades 😁
If you ever get to shoot a Genesis 12 SBM it is the real deal. But it does cost.
I got to hold one 🥲 but that might be the end all be all for the MIL contract money lol
I find it hard to believe these guys don’t know that the Benelli M4 Gen 2 exists, and it comes with the oversized bolt release button, among other things like 7 round tube standard and new handgrip.
The bolt release button on the gen 2 Benelli is barely bigger, I am glad to see that they added the 7 round tube, but it doesn't change how I feel about the comparison
@@ARFCOMReviews I would say it’s big enough to not be an issue anymore. I’ve shot Gen 1 and now own Gen 2 and the difference is huge.
With training, anything can be overcome. Marines have used the older gen M4 for decades without issues. I would like like to see them change the bolt release to something bigger
The rail they use is proprietary and cannot use mlok or 1913, which makes it completely useless. The 1301 is better in every aspect besides the fact that you need a tool to field strip it. I’m still on the edge as to which one to get. Going to the shop tomorrow to make my decision
@@Airplanetyson The Benelli comes with 3 pieces of picatinny rail sections that you can attach. I have a light and a pressure pad mounted, and a piece left to add a fore grip if I want to.
1301 is king
Most definitely
What does: "IF you are going to use a shotgun for home defense, please pattern it" mean? I have been using the 1201 (not a typo, youngster...) for home defense for around 25 years and put thousands and thousands of trouble free rounds through it but have no clue what he means. I do know the "pattern" of the very specific rounds I keep in it and on it for home defense as well as the range and "bullet" drop compensation when shooting very specific rifled slugs (three on board).
A 1201 is definitely old school 😎 they don't often make shotguns (or anything for that matter) like they used to.
He is just referring knowing what buck shot will do at 10 yards vs 30 yards out of your specific gun. Depending on barrel, choke, load, and forcing cone; you will have very different results and may risk having some of the shot miss the target all together. If you have a good backstop then it doesn't matter, but for people in apartments or residential neighborhoods it might be worth considering
Pistols and rifles shoot single projectiles one at a time. Shotguns shoot multiple projectiles all at once and form a pattern of wholes. Patterning means how far do the multiple holes spread out at a specific distance. Spreads of more than twelve inches can result in some pellets missing the target resulting in collateral damage.
Does this shotgun take the Mini Shot Shot 12 G Shells ?
We did not get to test that, my guess would be it's unlikely but maybe
My 1301 doesn't have that bolt hold open feature.
You can cycle out the round from the chamber, to select load, but it only locks back on mine after the tube and chamber is empty.
Then after I hit the bolt release it won't lock back while the hammer is cocked, but after I pull the trigger and send the hammer forward then it'll lock back automatically when the bolt is racked.
Mine's not the Mod2 though its the Gen2 enhanced (the version that came out right before, one)
Also whats the point of the 2 piece magtube cap?
Just to be able to remove the spring and follower?
Because you still have to take off the barrel clamp to remove the barrel/take it down.
I've also never had any issues with the trigger, and I've put quite a few rounds through mine, good to know Berreta took care of it, but I'm interested to know if they knew who you were?
I've never had to deal with their warranty support, but if you look on their FB page there's a lot of people complaining about never getting replies in regards to their issues.
The bolt hold open worked similarly to the way you described or when we pulled back on the tab on the back of the lifter inside of the loading port. This worked in both trigger packs (we had a gen 1 and gen 2 with the pro lifter upgrade). The Mod 2 upgrades are really nice and I hope they offer an update kit for the first gen 1301s
@@ARFCOMReviews I'll have to try when I get home, but I'm pretty sure that on mine the mag tube release (tab in the loading port) doesn't lock it back
Will be nice if that actually works though.
@ARFCOMReviews
So yeah can't lock the bolt back on mine, if there are shells in the tube, the shell release tab in the loading port releases a round from the tube (unless the tube is completely empty)
So I've researched the section at 8:18 a few times, an on yours if your chamber, and lifter are empty, and you only have 7 in the tube, how do you feed a round? I know a trigger pull will drop one, but your "tab" is my "Shell release"
I can also ghost load without having to don any extra steps, I load the tube, drop one in the chamber (directly with the bolt ¾ of the way back) shove one on the lifter and let go the charging handle.
Weird some of the subtle differences.
How can the Beretta 1301 be the best, if after 200 rounds the spring in the trigger goes bad. The Benelli M4 was tested firing 25k rounds without issue.
Ours did that and a Benelli M4 was tested to that standard. Unless it's a sustained pattern, we can't judge a gun off of just one unit of measure from one sample. The first accepted 1911 went 6k rounds without a malfunction with no maintenance, but that is often not the case for most 1911s
I've never heard of any other time this issue happened besides the one on this review, and I pored over every video and article out there that I could find.
I do my research before making a purchase like this.
Compare that to the Mossberg 940 Tactical Pro that I was going to buy.....the Mossberg had dozens upon dozens of issues, and they all also stated that customer service was absolutely atrocious. (That in a $1,000 shotgun)
I first looked at Remington, having wanted one since I was a boy, and apparently the
company has been passed around more than a cheap floozy at a Frat party, and quality has suffered.
Beretta on the other hand is known for top of the line shotguns, and even the lower tier models are renowned for quality and functionality.
A one time problem is just that, and I guarantee you that Benelli has also had one here and there that malfunctioned.
That's the human factor when built in a factory and hand assembled takes place.
Don't let ut scare you off of buying the finest shotgun anywhere near it's price range.
Does the mod 2 have an enlarged loading port like the a300?
It appears larger than most but I don't know that it's enlarged from the 1st to the 2nd gen
@@ARFCOMReviews I have the mod 2 and the a300up, it’s enlarged a tiny bit but no comparison to the 300 beveled loading port
My 1301 Tactical doesn’t have a threaded barrel for chokes. It also doesn’t have the loading plate where it stays down for easier loading. I checked their websites d it shows the mfg date of 8/13/23. So it’s not even. Year old according to the website.
Can anyone tell me why it wouldn’t have the extra bells and whistles ?
The Mod 2 does have all of the aforementioned features, not the original
I recently had purchased a black 1301 Mod 2 that didn't have the threads for a choke. Fortunately I looked at my receipt paperwork. Turns out the 1301 Mod 2 LE (Law Enforcement) version only comes with an IC choke barrel.
The Gun Shop I bought it from ordered me a new one in FDE (with the pistol grip like the one I already had ordered) and said they would pay the additional costs.
If yours is a black pistol grip 1301 Mod 2 without any choke threads, you likely have a LE Model.
They go for about $200 less than the regular version because no chokes, or barrel threads are needed.
While I can't guarantee that's the case for you, take a look at your receipt.
If it says "Fixed Choke": Surprise! You own an LE Model.
Fortunately, I hadn't even picked mine up from the Gun Shop......if I had fired it, no return allowed.
Please let me know if this helped you. Sometimes comments don't post......
Best wishes.
@@davidgraham2673 Mine is definitely the LE version. It’s stated on the original Box it came in.
Thanks for your input. It really helped.
@@musashiblade8665 , Glad I was of help, my friend.
You have one heck of a shotgun.
A fixed choke barrel is actually more accurate than removable chokes from everything I've read.
I have a bad back, and need a choke like the Buck Kicker to install.
That's why I retyrned mine.
The LE model is a great one.
Sorry to be the one to tell you but the definition of how it works at 8:05 you have it all wrong the gun. If your gun was loaded and 1 in the tube as you described, you just rack the firearm and eject the shell the bolt will NOT stay open, and the bolt release will NOT rase. So now you can just drop your shell in. It is confusing of how it works different loaded and unloaded as well as how it acts if you do and do not pull the trigger.
Would the genesis arms gen12, not be the “ best”. After all it is an “ AR”. Proven reliable, can be had in varying barrel lengths, various magazine capacities, and is MUCH quicker to reload. Yes it cost more, but that’s not what this is about, it’s about the best. Maybe this have should have said” best tube fed tactical shot gun” . Still you have the benelli m4, so it’s down to each persons opinion still.
The gen12 (which I do love and lust after) I feel is a different animal all together than these tube fed shotguns. It's also WAY heavier
The LTT version of this 1301 is God-tier.
Not really they don’t really add any benefit just the name “LTT” the Mod 2 does everything the LTT does and I had the LTT version and it broke so I had to send it back and now I have the mod 2 and it’s exactly the same
The 1301 is definitely on its way to GOAT status if they start seeing heavy use and handling it
@@curbside01 sorry to disagree, but the trigger job LTT does on the1301 is amazing.
Just buy the Beretta A300 Patrol. It's almost a identical shotgun for $700-$800 less. 90% of the people will never be able to tell the difference. If you have the money for the 1301 and you shoot almost every day, then buy it. Otherwise the A300 will fill all your needs. I've shot every types of ammo with my A300, low base target and up to slugs. Not one issue.
I definitely think the A300 or the mossberg 930 are great options at that price!
you can definitely tell a difference between the ae00 and 1301....in many ways too. a300 is still great tho. definitely upper end of quality as far as affordable shotguns go.
What? I have both and there's a lot of difference. They are about as similar as cats and dogs. They may look alike but they are completely different operating systems.
I do say Smithers, the poors are justifying the lesser option. (Laughing in -got that money)
Had a a300 it was nice. Traded it off. Just bought a used 1301 for the same as a a300
I’ve got two…I’ll trade one for a Fender p bass lol
I want just one 😅
If I was going to spend nearly $2k on a scattergat I'd get an M1014. Just for the sheer clout.
I have both and they are both just outstanding!
I do favor the BENELLI m4 LE a bit more.
Clout is an important factor 😊
I got mine for FAR less than 2k. Love it
Me too, but it is worth every penny of the 2k if that's all the break you can get.
The 1301 is a fine shotgun yes it is BUT ~
The Benelli M4 / 1014 was produced as a Combat SG, The Benelli is tested in the military ( Marines ) and has a proven combat record.
The Benelli also has less parts that the ( Winchester ) production parts ( which is a faster working action than the Benelli ), and the Benelli is built like a tank ~ and is said to have shot 25,000 + shells without major parts breakage.
The Benelli is “ old “ but very capable and has that record of combat use / military test ~ which the 1301 does not have. Not saying the 1301 is a dud ~ is also very nice as well as the Benelli SG.
There is definitely no question about the M4's service record (likely only second to the 590 A1 in durability) and I think any new shotgun is years away from having time to garner such a reputation. The 1301 does however improve certain controls/touch points in ergos and does for now cost a bit less for the civilian or law enforcement user who isn't having to fight a war in a desert
I'd wait on putting this in the GOAT category until Mossberg drops the Profesional Series. That 940 Profesional is lookin better for a lot less. Plus Mossberg been making excellent guns for a good price, meanwhile Berretta has made questionable things for an exorbitant amount.
This was my only complain about our review. I wish I had a 940 to compare it to. We might do a follow up to cover this basis. I am a fan of Mossberg's company culture, but a good gun is a good gun. I'm excited to see more competition in the arena.
The JM pro has been out.
The 940 is more comparable to the Beretta A300 Patrol vs. their 1301. I too am looking forward to when the Professional Series comes out. I saw it on TFB TV during their Shot Show coverage though I have yet to hear any updates about the release of that version. There's the Thunder Ranch version of the 940 which I think has most of the features that the Professional Series will have but I just get the impression you're paying an extra hundred or two for the Thunder Ranch name. Don't get me wrong, I love Uncle Clint but I'm not giving him extra money just to have his logo on the side of my shotgun.
As for the 1301 Gen 2, if I had $2K to burn, I'd get it and a red dot to mount on the rail in a heartbeat. But I'm on a budget and not one of my firearms cost more than $800 out of the box (not including optics/scopes or other accessories) so even a $1K Mossberg 940 will be a big investment for me.
I think the IWI Tavor TS-12 has something to say about goat claims.
Mossberg 940 is nowhere near the 1301 and has to be cleaned around 600 rounds, my 930 SPX has the same internals as the 940 so I could run longer without having to clean it, they've actually sold online the same internals that the 940 has that Mossberg didn't come up with..... Another company came up with it called OR3gun and Mossberg uses their parts, they may be able to manufacture those parts now who knows ,I only use Mossberg for their pumps not their autos, Mossberg autos have been disappointments, all they did is make a regular 940 and slap on OR3GUN parts in it
If the trigger broke after 150 rounds, this is a piece of crap.
This was a T&E gun, we have no idea how many rounds it saw prior to us getting it in
Thanks
😁😄🙃
