- What’s happening in this The Jackal movie clip?
The Jackal then tests the automatic sight by locking in on Lamont (Jack Black from King Kong and The Holiday) who he asks to run around so he can practice following him with the weapon. He then asks Lamont to stretch his arm and hold his pack of cigarettes. He clearly aims for the cigarettes but when the weapon is fired, it shoots off Lamont's arm entirely. The Jackal then switches the weapon to machine gun mode to simultaneously kill Lamont and destroy his car.

What’s the movie The Jackal about?
Moscow: An operation is conducted jointly by militia woman Valentina Koslova (Diane Venora) and FBI agent Carter Preston (Sidney Poitier from The Defiant Ones and Lilies of the Field). In the ensuing firefight, Terek Murad's brother (David Hayman) is killed. Terek Murad, a powerful Russian mafia boss, hires an international hitman known as the Jackal (Bruce Willis from Die Hard and Pulp Fiction) to exact his revenge by eliminating a high-profile American. As the Jackal sneaks into Canada, using several false identities, Valentina and Carter contact two people who have been in contact with the killer: Declan Mulqueen (Richard Gere from Pretty Woman and American Gigolo), an Irish revolutionary imprisoned in the U.S., and Isabella (Mathilda May from Lifeforce), a Basque activist who was once in love with Declan and is now married to an American. Declan agrees to collaborate in exchange for his provisional release. The Jackal sets up a complex remote-controlled heavy machine gun device and, in various ways, plans the attack that is supposed to target the head of the FBI. Declan spots the Jackal, but he escapes, attacks Isabella's house, kills her husband and Valentina. Declan suddenly realizes that the designated target is a decoy: in reality, it is the President's wife who is targeted. With Carter, he intervenes just in time to foil the attack and pursues the Jackal in the subway. The two men injure each other, Isabella intervenes and finishes off the killer. Carter lets Declan go free.

That fact that it was Jack Black made that scene EXTRA special.
I just realized it was him too. I only ever saw this one scene of the movie on TV at a cabin we stayed in while vacationing in Branson, Missouri 20 years ago. I never knew the title and bam pops up on my feed.

Every time I watch that scene..It seemed like Bruce actually enjoyed doing that.
The engineer in the novel was _way_ more careful - not only did _not_ try to blackmail him, he put measures in place to expose the Jackal, if he died.
Which the Jackal knew, and left him be.
The Hollywood version is nothing like the book or the classic movie. I will say, though, that I don’t believe Bruce Willis was trying to blow off his arm.
Yeah but he had a scene sort of like this with the fake ID guy who tried to extort him.
They switch the engineer and the counterfeiter in this film. Jack black gets killed because he tries to get more money out of the jackal, it’s the other way round in the original/novel
@@justinbergmans36 Well, the crosshairs were aimed at his hand and not the cigarette pack. However, The Jackal did specify that he wanted the frame made out of titanium (if I remember correctly) and Black just gave him one out of steel with some non-apology about the guy not having titanium. So that's probably why he got on his bad side as he should have either solved the problem by contacting him about the problem regarding the lack of material and if steel would be an option.
It's been a while since I watched this movie but I believe The Jackal even stated that the gun was 'off' during the melon scene; because the mounting stand was made of inferior material.
Mr Black's finest performance! I could watch that seen over and over again.

Come on Hollywood bring back practical effects this looks pretty real still
If you watch almost any action movie with a decent budget from the 80s-90s (even ones that got bad reviews at the time) they invariably look a million times better than 95% of what's produced today. Digital effects have become a crutch for the movie industry and the quality of movies in general have suffered tremendously for it.
@@Dr.TJ_Eckleburg Exactly!!! The creativity has suffered as well and it seems like films are crammed together these days to make a quick buck. There is some good cgi for sure, but they are flexing an ability to produce something on a computer. Take terminator 2 for example, the effects were about 99% practical and all terminators were made from scratch. Its quiet scary really because they seemed so real when I watched it as a kid and still looks real now. I kinda liked the rev 9 in dark fate (dw trash film I'm definitely and I quote not saying it was good) the cgi was actually pretty good and he was pretty scary but doesn't come close to that t1000 from t2.
Bruce Willis is so badass as a villain. He really should have played bad guys more often.

Gotta admire jack blacks compliance after getting his arm blown off and going into shock, he was still willing to follow instructions and sacrifice himself so that the jackle could calibrate the cannon 👏

I've never understood the whole let's show how ruthless this guy is by having him kill his connect or his henchman. Do you know what happens to criminals who kill their connects? They don't remain assassin's for very long, they either get killed or sold out
Thats why they only kill the ones that screw up.

As regarding Jack Black..? The guy DID try to squeeze more money out of him - and The Jackal's not someone you break a deal with. He dealt PLENTY fairly with both his contact for his passports, and other ID issues, just as he did with that bank executive when purchasing the weapon system. All in all..? The Jackal was properly ethical in his dealings. Murderous as fuck..? yes. (And THEN some!) But he was ('scuse the pun i.e. this scene here) a straight shooter.

At that point, its either run down range of the super big auto gun or try to take out the controller. Its a shitty choice but he definitely made the wrong one lol at least with fighting the guy controlling it, you might get lucky, hope he hits his head when you tackle him to the ground or maybe you’ll be able to land some good hits in, knock him around just enough to get the upper hand. Better than running up range of that massive thing
Or run and keep yourself between the gun and the controller
He would’ve just pulled out his sidearm and shot black dead anyways
Or just keep running as the aim was off
At the realisation you're just about to be killed, most people, including most of if anyone commenting how to easily avoid death if they were in Lamonts' shoes, would just freeze at a spot, not even being able to run if told to.

Yeah, the final shot showed the crosshairs to be in his hand instead of the cigarette pack. But yeah, it would still have blown half his arm off because the gun was off due to it not being built exactly to the Jackal's specifications (steel instead of titanium afaik).
I like to sit and think about the moments Bruce will have telling his grandchildren all about his illustrious career in the future.
I watched this movie on TV when I was like 10, and this scene and the scene where the gun is being pointed at someone from a tower stuck with me. For years I wanted to see this movie, but the image of Jack Black doing a movie where he was being brutally killed never seemed possible. It wasn't until a few years ago that I decided to look up 'Jack Black killed by machine gun' somewhere that this came up, and my curiosity was satiated. I still haven't watched the movie though.
It's actually a really good movie. It's based on a Frederick Forsyth book, 'Day of The Jackal' which was far more suspenseful than the film, but it still very solid entertainment. It got horrible reviews at the time, but I think it definitely aged well and is at least superior to most of what passes for action movies today.
Well then f*cking watch it! You sound curious so stop being a f*cking d*mbass and just watch it already.
It looks like my story, but it was all foggy in my mind till algorithm brought me here
I remember watching this movie when I was Tripping on some low grade acid, this scene always bothered me for the complete ruthlessness.

The Jackal has quite the disarming personality.
any scene where jack black gets maimed is gold.
"Hold up that pack of cigarettes!" and "Stand by the car!" Has been burn in my brain for years since ive seen the Jackal.
"Before you bleed out!"
Ironically the biggest idiot in this scene wasn’t Jack Black’s character: it was the Jackal. He killed Jack and then forgot to make sure that anything that could implicate him and lead to his failure was destroyed.
I swear this was a fever dream I had as a kid, but I guess this movies real lol
I used this scene to cheer me up after I watched that absolutely horrendous episode of the Mandalorian, that starred Jack Black and Lizzo

I always thought the 2:42 aerial shot was a nice touch.
