The thing I have always found crazy about RDR2 is how you don't even get to see HALF OF THE MAP for the entirety of the main story. Imagine playing a game for 50+ HOURS, and then you're subtly reminded there's an entire other half to the map. Like-hey, by the way. And when you FINALLY see it for the first time? It's fucking incredible. One of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen in any game. The desert is absolutely gigantic and immensely beautiful and it's SO underplayed-it almost feels like an afterthought. An easter egg. You don't even get to see it for nearly the ENTIRE game. This gigantic, sprawling, absolutely gorgeous landscape that's HALF of Red Dead Redemption 2's entire land mass... an afterthought?! An easter egg?? The desert alone would be lauded as one of the most beautiful open-world spaces in the history of gaming... and it just comes off like cut content. It gives you serious "bonus level" vibes except it's like double the game's original area. It's insane. Just crazy. If you know, you know.
I think it's cool and all but I reeally don't like going there, I feel like there's so little to do (aside from bounties and just some [1?/2?] story missions) it's a completely different thing in rdr 1 tho, it's great! And I loved Mexico even more.
Yes, which makes it even odder that there's nothing to do at all there. No missions, no freaks, no funny easter eggs... nothing. It's just completely barren. I thought Rockstar were gonna add some DLC that'd utilize that part of the map, but it's been five years now, so I guess that'll never materialize. It seems to me Rockstar had some grandiose plan for this massive land mass and then abandoned it for whatever reason. It's a shame, really.
if you really think about it, the reward for beating this game is that you can basically play an improved rdr 1 with john marston again forever without him getting killed lol
will joyner but what about arthur?? and it doesn‘t make sense visiting new austin as john, becaus he never been there before the events of rdr1! he said it to bonnie in the beginning.
Fast travel to fix Johns weight. Also it's so fricken weird to see New Austin like this in RDR2. I spent so many hours riding across that map. It's a shame there's not much going on there.
Set waypoint Click or hold X until desired horse speed Hold down touchpad or your pov button while pressing X or B for cinematic mode Walk away from controller Eat pizza
That's how you start a ride. Let your horse 🏇 poop and whizz before going on a long journey like real people do. Whenever family goes on a trip, it's always use the bathroom before start the journey...😊
Not to jump on my horse or anything but I walked across the map on rdr. No trotting, cantering or galloping and I stuck to the road. Far end of Mexico to tumble weed then straight across to Blackwater. I have to say, it was very relaxing with a good playlist on and it was good to enjoy the scenery. Also yes, I got chased alot by wolves and cougars but I had a shotgun with me✌️
I wish they had an option where you could choose if you want to play as John or Arthur. Honestly I miss the whole gang not being able to go to camp anymore sucks.
In Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), riding across the map can be an immersive and enjoyable experience, given the vast and detailed open world. Whether you're exploring the wilderness, traveling between towns, or simply soaking in the game's atmosphere, here are some tips for a memorable journey: 1. **Choose the Right Horse:** - Different horses have varying attributes such as speed, stamina, and health. Pick a horse that suits your preferred style of travel. 2. **Plan Your Route:** - Use the in-game map to plan your route. Consider the terrain, weather conditions, and any potential encounters with wildlife or other characters. 3. **Enjoy the Scenery:** - RDR2 features stunning landscapes and diverse environments. Take your time to appreciate the scenery, from snowy mountains to lush forests and open plains. 4. **Interact with NPCs:** - As you ride, you might encounter strangers or events that trigger side missions, random encounters, or interesting dialogues. Stop and interact with characters you come across for a richer gaming experience. 5. **Camp Along the Way:** - If your journey is long, consider setting up a temporary campsite. This allows you to rest, cook food, and sleep until morning. Camping also provides an opportunity to save your game. 6. **Hunt and Gather:** - While riding, keep an eye out for wildlife. You can hunt animals for their pelts and meat, which can be useful for crafting or replenishing your health and stamina cores. 7. **Experiment with Cinematics:** - RDR2 has a cinematic camera mode that allows you to enjoy the journey from various cinematic angles. Activate it by holding down the cinematic camera button (Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox) and let the game automatically guide your character. 8. **Customize Your Experience:** - Adjust the game settings to your liking. You can choose whether to enable or disable the mini-map, change the display settings, and customize the controls to enhance your riding experience. 9. **Play Along with the Soundtrack:** - The game's soundtrack is exceptional. Enable the music and let it enhance the atmosphere of your journey. You can also customize the playlist to suit your preferences. 10. **Experiment with Challenges:** - Create your own challenges, such as reaching a specific location within a set time or avoiding fast travel. This can add an extra layer of fun and immersion to your ride. Remember that Red Dead Redemption 2 is about the journey as much as the destination, so take your time, explore, and immerse yourself in the rich world created by Rockstar Games.
There is a person who uploaded a video of John Marston walking across the entire red dead redemption 2 map from the southwest corner to the northeast corner. It took 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Hi! I have a question and couldnt find the answer anywhere so I thought lets try on youtube! - ITS FOR PC RDRD2 - So I just got Red Dead Redemption 2 and had to ride a horse, but it was kinda weird? Like W was just walk what is normal but when I press S the horse isnt going backwards + when I press A or D the horse is going faster + when I press L SHIFT the horse does nothing. I dont think this is how it supposed to be? Like riding is impossible like this and couldnt find out how I can fix it. I removed all keyboard bindings and put them 1 for 1 in again. Didnt work.
I’m just wondering when the rest of the map is gonna unlock. I’m on the epilogue and it still hasn’t. Seems like a waste. Hopefully it’s not empty as fuck when I get there.
Anyone else stop at the towns during your travel, find a house and then get back driving your horse, randomly steal a wagon and use it so your hors can “rest”, and also steal people’s horses for the same reason.. just me, ok
It doesn't matter how big this map is in totality because you have to finish the story (and thus, the game) to access HALF--THE--MAP. With the game over, why bother going to New Austin for hunting or treasure finding? What do I need the money for? The game is over. Between West Elizabeth and Tall Trees is a great location for bison where I can complete some of my crafting needs, but again, who cares? The game is over. Why do I need a great satchel or some furnishings for my camp because THE--GAME--IS--OVER . This is so stupid.
I agree with you. Such a fuckin waste of half the map. Nothing to do in new austin in terms of missions. Only a gang hideout and hunting and skinning animals. New austin has no purpose in the game
I think they put New Austin in for future plans relating to online and DLC. Makes no sense for them to put in that much effort just for it to be an empty space.
Hi, newbie here. I don't quite understand, when you say "Riding across the map" for this video do you mean this is essentially ALL of the Red Dead Redemption 2 world, all in 28 minutes from one edge to the other? Or is there still more land, more scenes, etc?
@Rakata Films - that seems to make more sense then, thanks. So there's plenty more in other directions, he's only crossing it. Off topic but I do find a few things odd. For example, from the 22 minute mark to the 25 minute mark it goes from the beginning of a sunset to late at night. I think 3 minutes is too fast for that. Oh well. Also, the horse seems to run too fast. I'd think it would die.

Arthur was supposed to go there apparently though so it was never really an afterthought
