This JUST happened to me as well. After reading the codes and doing a little research I was prepared to do the work myself. Thank goodness I came here to see if a repair video exists. After reading these comments and seeing the UPDATE in the shot description I went to my local Toyota. I told them I read the codes and the problem seems to be covered under an extended warranty. They looked into it and sure enough, its COVERED. They fixed it and I didnt pay a dime. THANKS FOR THAT GEOFFREY!!!
I believe you can also contact Toyota if this has happened to you in the past and they will reimburse you for the parts. Just happened to me and I’m at 110k miles on my ‘12 and they’re repairing it for free (assuming the previous owner didn’t throw in some aftermarket valves... he did a lot of dumb things but hopefully not that dumb)
@@michaeltemple895 How did you go about getting this warrantied ? I'm having the same issue and I've tried calling Toyota directly and my local dealership. Neither one seems to want to warranty this issue .
Thx so much!!! I started getting these codes last month on my ‘12. I received the TSB a few weeks ago and filled it before reading😴😴. Letter states pump and air switching valves will be replaced FREE OF CHARGE upon diagnosis/inspection.

I bought my tacoma from the toyota dealership Toyota certified in August. Valve is not stuck closed. Dealership k says it is not covered and wants to charge me 2,000 i don't have to fix it. What do I do? Only 80k on the mileage.
Spot on video. Did my repair today took about hour and a half. Parts were tough to find though and much more expensive. Your videos of the repair were incredibly helpful and as stated right on.
Thanks a lot for this video series. I was able to change the air injection valve assembly on my own. Well, with your help! By you posting this video series, I was able to save over $700. I owe you big time!
It took me a little over an hour. My only problem occurred when I was installing the very last bolt back onto the air pump. I dropped it underneath the air intake duct going to the air filter! So, I had to remove the air pump and air filter intake duct again to find the bolt! Bolt retrieved and installed. Thanks again.
So I blew into the hose and the valve is apparently not stuck open. Makes me think it's the pump. But my codes are p2440 and p2442 specifically for the injection valve. Truck went into limp..I reset obd. Ran fine for the 30min drive I had home after that. Any idea with what the issue could be? Dont want it to go into limp on freeway again haha. Your video has already helped greatly so thanks in advance!
Just to answer my own question. I ended purchasing the hewitt bypass kit for under $400. I'm no mechanic and it was still an easy install. If you live in an area without strict emissions testing, I highly recommend it!!
It has been running great without any issues. Of course I received the recall in the mail about 4 months after fixing it. I'm not sure they would honor it now that I've bypassed it. No reason to fix something that's no longer broken!

Bryan Fahnholz not for me. They fixed it when my truck had around 60k because it was a known issue, similar to a recall but I believe it’s they call it a service bulletin. Make sure you give them the number EngiNerd provided.
Bryan Fahnholz at the end of the day, auto manufacturers only have to stand by their product through the warranty period. “Faulty” is relative, if it lasted longer than the warranty covers then it’s not faulty. Some auto manufacturers make exceptions for high failure parts but they aren’t required to. I look at this situation with Toyota as one of the reasons why I drive their truck. Not all companies would consider this and Toyota has done this for me on two separate occasions. This and the replacement of my clock spring when my horn stopped working freshly out of warranty. This is why I stand by Toyota.
