Very educational even though you didn't get the pump working. at the end. After watching your videos I poked around on the intake side of the pump and apparently cleared a blockage most likely caused by loose air filter material. My check engine light went away and hasn't returned. I'm switching to the aftermarket filter that many other Toyota owners are using.
Looks like the little "sponge filter" toyota uses in there came loose and found its way to the fan. Lots of people are taking those out now for this reason and putting a smaller air filter on the outside.
Probably too late for you but maybe someoe else will see it. I have a 2.7L tacoma. I had been through cleaning my valve several years back and it stuck again. I removed the air hose and filled w motor oil. After a trip to grocery store the valve fixed itself. Lots easier fix than taking the valve off.
Had a P2440 code and Check Engine light on my '05 Tacoma. "Secondary Air valve stuck open". Finally found a source to buy one without breaking my bank ($140) and ordered one. Meanwhile thinking "I wonder if I can UNstick this thing?". I pulled off the hose that runs from the smog pump to the valve at the valve inlet port and squirted a couple ounces of Mercury Quicksilver (an amazing product designed to de-gick marine engines) into it. Let it sit overnight, cleared codes with my ODBII gizmo and drove the truck to town and back. The CEL never came back on. Now I'm debating whether to keep the new valve or return/sell it. I can do this 30 second repair a BUNCH of times with a ten dollar can of liquid magic! The truck is a 2.7L 4 banger so it just has one 'bank'. I would think it may work on a V6 too.
@@jenson3810 For the valve I guess you mean it is www.oempartsquick.com/oem-parts/toyota-air-switch-valve-2571075015 Yes I think I should keep it just in case. Never hurts to have spare parts. ;-)
I have heard that, & supposedly works when it' colder outside (45 deg ?) But when I was working on it: It was summer (in Florida) lows in the 80's. I really don't know for sure.
Jen Son, it only runs for a short period of time on a cold start. On my truck you can here the exhaust pop, on cold days on a cold start when the pump is running
I've never noticed any difference in sounds, running or the other things that others have complained about. Don't forget, I live in warm climate if that makes any difference.
Sir, you just saved me 2000.00 in repair. It was just the pump fuse. No doubt, Toyota would have just replaced everything, From all that I have seen online.
If any body can get a good ohm reading from a working motor, I sure would appreciate it.A good ohm meter between the windings (from pos. to neg connections.)
Hi Jen Son , thanks for the nice videos ! I have the same problem with code P2445 & P0418 , my Toyota tacoma 2007. I check the fuse (50) is ok , I chech the connect to the pump is only 2v, how do you think ? Thanks Jen Son !
Humm First thoughts, is the motor running, motor going the correct direction, solenoid operating, no air restrictions. If you removed the solenoid from the engine, the plate to the engine goes in one direction, if it was reinstalled, the plate could be wrong. Check the fuse. Did you watch all 5 vids? If I think of anything else will let you know.
Jen Son Thanks. İ checked the fuse 50A. It was fine. So I took the pump out and tested it; it was working fine but when I install it dosent. I'm poor at electrics but I'm beginning to suspect the wiring to the pump even though it looks fine. Do you know if there is another darn relay for the secondary air injection hidden somewhere?
Bello Launini did you check ur driver, air injection control (part no: 89581-60010). check if there is ground from the socket outlet. knowing tat u edi changed a new secondary air pump, that might b another culprit.

I changed the spark plugs.
And that little hose in the back was disconnected.
Thank you!
This video helped me a lot for the upcoming work with my air injection system. Thanks!

Nice
Will any kind of motor oil work ?
So after doing this fix , the CEL cleared itself ? Did the CEL ever come back on ?
Who ever told you they don't make replacement parts was trying to fuck you over

The AIR pump adds fresh air to help the catalytic converter burn unburnt fuel. It doesn't just add air too fool the emissions test.

You forgot to mention that the black stuck unto your impellar was an air filter foam inside the black plastic...
I thought I said it some where in the vid, If not now they know.

Joe Maas did u encounter error code P0418. mind to share pic of your faulty fuse. tq.
Thanks 🙏🙏

The cheap foam filter is always the culprit. They dry up and become brittle eventually making it's way into the fan pump. You need a uni filter.
Where do you get the uni filters from ?
Hi there..the black thingy inside the fan blade tat lead to error code P0418?
If the motor is clogged with the filter material or not working the error will show up.
thank you so much for ur reply..is it still safe to drive even with the error code? did you encounter error code P0418?
I've been driving like that for over a year & no problem. You will fail emissions test.
hi all..problem solved after replacing secondary air injection system. tq.
This is a great video thank you for posting! I need just the fan blade part(mine broke). Do you know where I can buy just this?
No sorry.
Junkyard
Much appreciated!
It looks like he made that little hole with a hammer and nail.

Do you think they have relay some where ?
I really don't know. I'ts a 12 volt system. I think you should get the 12v at the pump connector.
If I block off the air pump will everything still be ok
No the engine light will stay on. I unplugged both air pump & solenoid but engine light still on. I've had no problems with engine performance.
I replaced my air injection pump and i still have the MIL P0418. Car hesitates

Hi, did you get a P2441 code?
I thought I said it in one of the vids. but this sounds familiar. The dealer did a free test is how I found out.
Check out the Hewitt Industries webpage for this stuff
How much this motor?
Its been awhile but it was expensive (for me)
$2000 to change a smog pump????
That was years ago and before after market. I'm sure it's a lot cheaper now.
