Children’s brains are just developing. Social media is not what they should be on. I feel like these kids posting on social media without talent just want to be famous and popular and like changing themselves for others. Stop changing yourself for others. Be yourself. It’s not just teens impacted negatively by social media. Teens are probably the most vulnerable but others are also impacted - face-to-face relationships, hobbies, going for walks, participating in sports.
it's so weird to think i remember a time before internet was normal and smartphones not even existing, but yet, here i am today, couldn't imagine a life without a smartphone in todays world. i guess that's how it's supposed to be then? people always expect you to be available all day and then use all these apps for your work place. in the end, i do miss the early 2000s, but without a smartphone, i wouldn't be able to video call the ones i love away from home. all i can say is, i am glad i remember a time before smartphones and before internet was a normal thing. memories i will cherish.
yes but you also have to realise how isolated it would make her from her peers in school. My mother did the same, I am grateful to her but I am 21 now and I have never had friends. In school people would avoid talking to me as I was oblivious of new trends or shows, new web series, whixh celebrity they were crushing blah blah. By the time I was in college, I tried opening a social media and follow trends but people on those platforms seemed too stupid and aggressive so I had to leave everything. The people in my college seem used to it and they only want to be acquaintance with me, not freinds. This is good news. It's a parents responsibility to foster healthy communication with their children. Be present and positive, and they will want to do the same. Great work, Larissa.
Parents: Do not give your kids a smartphone until they are close to being adults. You have no idea what they are watching when you are not around. Also, if you buy them a phone and allow them to take it to school, guess what? They'll be on their phones for a good portion of the day.
My niece got a tablet at 2 years old. I never said anything cuz then it will be an issue with my sister. When her tablet dies she doesn’t know how to be a normal child and play with toys or go outside it’s ridiculous but my sister sees nothing wrong. Same issue with my nephew and he’s 5 both have iPads. Crazy.
Just stay off the phone. You are the person using the phone, the phone is not going to use you. If you're looking for peer recognition then it's better if it's done through the school. You're not addicted to social media, you're addicted to your phone. You ever heard your parents/teacher yell at you "Pay attention!"? Focus on what's in front of you and not your phone. The feeds are programmed, there are people running businesses on social media, and it's also used for marketing. You're all kids and you're mistakening it with your own identities. If you have role models and people you want to look up to that's great but it doesn't make much sense to have hurt feelings over things you don't have to even look at. Get off the phone.
Genetics loads the gun...Society pulls the trigger...When I developed my eating disorder it was in the early 2000s and it was triggered by pressure at school and going on a diet and magazines just made it worse. Today, it's social media that makes it worse, but it's important to know that social media is not the reason for eating disorders. Eating disorders are a symptom of a bigger problem that someone is dealing with. Social media exasperates it, but it's not the reason.

(And would get it only if they earned it , because that is how it works for not raising ungrateful children ) And would try to educate them about the why on my decision , instead of imposing rules that are unclear. I would try my best to get my kid share their thoughts sincerely even if they may seem weird or taboo and try not to make them feel judged and establish let’s say a friendship , since they would do whatever they want anyway , I just want them to share instead of doing mistakes anyway but sneak them out from me.
